I'm missing out on something here. Are there, like, all kinds of posts
from this guy that I'm missing because he's got me "plonked"??? HELP!!!@

Oh thank goodness. Did you see my poignant and (admittedly) hilarious
commentary on the drinking of draught beer in Irish pubs? It's a good

Tim Bruening. You know, the guy who posts all those hysterical puns
everyday, en masse. How could you miss him?

Wavy G and I are about to drop the following dope collabo:

> I don't know much about "killfiles." If I respond to you, can Hillstrom
> still read my psot?

Say, now. I like what you did there, if it's what I think it is.

Am I right, or did you just purposely misspell the word "post" as "psot"?
If so, that's awfully witty. As you know, I am new to this newsgroup and
am still trying to get my bearings. Do I understand correctly that this
intentional misspelling of common words is a kind of running gag or
"schtick" that some of you participate in, as a way of gently mocking dull
or inexperienced posters while at the same time showing that you do not
take yourself too seriously?

This is a real relief. I had heard from some sources that the Usenet, and
this group in particular, was a dying medium that was becoming rather
stagnant in terms of content--you know, the kind of place where if (let's
say) a person were to leave and then come back a few years later, he would
encounter the same small group of people rehearsing the same tired
material for an ever-shrinking audience while bravely trying to ignore the
fact that they were sinking further and further into irrelevance. Man,
it's good to know that this is not the case!

Well, once again, thank you so much for welcoming me into the fold, as it
were. I look forward to a long, productive relationship (productive
like a bad cough, LOL). Keep the fresh material coming!

Yeah, who knew that proclaiming to believe "Stella Artois" to be an
Irish beer would be so offensive?

Why, thank you. Your kind words are a nice change from all the
nastiness I usually receive from the uptight *****s around here. And
yeah, that neat little "misspelling" gimmick is sort of a trademark of
mine that I've spent many years perfecting. I actually stole it from an
old friend of mine (can't remember his name right now) who used to post
regularly on alt.tv.real-world (and many others, wink !). We kind of
did these jokey posting gimmicks, or "schticks," on a regular basis.
We'd wake each day, bright and early each day, just to log on to the
newsgroup to make lame jokes, annoy unsuspecting netizens, and generally
just exchange nasty barbs and jibes with won another, ad infinitum. It
was great.

Say, wait a minute! "Alt.tv.real-world," hmm... I seem to remember not
to long ago, you mentioned having knowledge of some of the posts that
were created in that very newsgroup around that time. Now, how could
you have such an intimate knowledge of those classic posts, and but yet
not be familiar with won of our most commonly used schticks? You must
have the "search" feature of your favourite Usenet archive set to filter
out certain things (I don't know; I'm not very technical). Check your
settings; you're missing out on some good stuff!

Thanks again for tipping your hat my way, friend. And hey, I noticed
you're getting in on the fun with that little "joke" attempt in your
final paragraph. That's the spirit! And not a bad attempt at humour,
either. I like that you said, "productive relationship" and then
blindsided us all by following that up with the parenthetical comment,
"productive like a bad cough," implying that the relationship would
really be a negative won. LOL! You're getting the hang of it! Keep it
up (not a sexual reference, LOL).

Love,
Wavy G
