what determines the size of the town

the population, land size, maybe the types of people who live there? just want to know what you think, i live in a town of about 60,000 people but we are 90% blue collared, working class. everyone here has a truck or knows some one with one. land wise i would say we are about average. we were also rated the 4th most historic small town in the country.

most of all, whats your opinion on town size?

and is there a difference between a town and a city.

I'm only guessing but "what determines the size of a town" would be..

location

access to natural resources

community spirit/politeness of the folk :)

effective police/low incidents of crime

decent educational facilities with creative teachers(not monotonous drones that taught me..with the exception of "Judy":)

entrepreneurial spirit/with capital investment(only folks that will re-invest in the town welcome)

banks/low interest rates on loans home and business

Historical significance/Taken advantage by entrepreneurial investors

Decent roadworks and maintenance(utmost quality control)

effective local council(transparency and accountability)

events organising committee/parades and stuff

Decent telecommunictions infrastructure/internet access/etc

Types of shops in malls

recreational facilities for kids

Types of bars

Types of churches (instill moral character and all that jazz)

Quality of Hotels and motels(word of mouth in tourist circles is a killer and could make or brake a town)

A descent library(the bigger the better with online services

Scholarships funding committee/or access to(anonymous donors welcome)

Environmental issues addressed

polution policed and strict environmental bylaws enforced(Aesthetics of the business interior and exterior is critical..so no eye sore businesses with toxic waste dumps or wrecking caryards

Everything is about quality and accessibility and tranparency and financial accountabilty and pride in your community

If corruption can be controlled and eliminated ..so there is no conflict of interest..great

Oh **** the list goes on...Your town would see a significant change in demographics and income if these factors were properly addressed.

and as for your question:

"and is there a difference between a town and a city?"

The appearance of burger king or wendy's or whatever popular fast food chain there is..will tell you that you are doing something right.

The difference would be between town and city is that the above mentioned factors or facilities ...in fact most of them are not available :-(..(I'm just brainstorming so don't debate me)

..ok thats it from me

location, the southwest corner of hartford county connecticut

access to natural resources, over 700 acres in parks, a hand full of farms

community spirit/politeness of the folk :), some wack nuts, some lower class people who shouldnt be here, most of the people are nice/ normal

effective police/low incidents of crime, police are ok crime is lower than national average

decent educational facilities with creative teachers(not monotonous drones that taught me..with the exception of "Judy":) one or two blue ribbon schools, lots of weird/ wack nut teachers

entrepreneurial spirit/with capital investment(only folks that will re-invest in the town welcome), kind of

banks/low interest rates on loans home and business, normal

Historical significance/Taken advantage by entrepreneurial investors, 4th most historic small town in the united states

Decent roadworks and maintenance(utmost quality control), our town is concidered to have "bad infrastructure" our roads are falling apart and we dont have a highway in town, anywhere, yet

effective local council(transparency and accountability), ahhhhh, not so sure

events organising committee/parades and stuff, lots of events, concidered the "mum city", a few parades, a few carnivals, lake compounce

Decent telecommunictions infrastructure/internet access/etc, yup

Types of shops in malls, we have a mall but its more of an indoor shopping center with a handful of stores (they tore our granite post office down for this)

recreational facilities for kids, parks/ schools, yards

Types of bars, a handful

Types of churches (instill moral character and all that jazz), all different churches, i go to an irish roman catholic church down the street from me on what once was the irish section of town

Quality of Hotels and motels(word of mouth in tourist circles is a killer and could make or brake a town) we have a radison on our town line

A descent library(the bigger the better with online services

Scholarships funding committee/or access to(anonymous donors welcome), 2 pretty average sized libraries

Environmental issues addressed, usually

polution policed and strict environmental bylaws enforced(Aesthetics of the business interior and exterior is critical..so no eye sore businesses with toxic waste dumps or wrecking caryards, i think we have one or two junk yards but they are pretty well hidden, some junkie areas but nothing terrible

Once upon a time when I was 19...sitting in a kitchen in Frankfurt Germany with some really cool people....

I spoke of the "city" I was from.

I was asked how big it was.

I said, "population 2000".

I will never forget how Hildegard's head reared back as she pealed laughter, and told me,

"that's not a city! That's a VILLAGE!"

I adored her, and was somewhat hurt...

ahhhhh to be young.

Poor Tonon. I wasn't even referring to him. I was referring to that stupid message that comes up whenever you want to post something short.

But hey, great work at photoshopping out the orange laminex background from that shot!

I mean, um, good work finding that completely random image on google!

Fukk!

LOL.

Oh, Builder. You will never live down that gaudy paint. Maybe you should have photo-shopped your picture. Perhaps, a hot pink or a lime green.

Thank goodness, you have a sense of humour.
You know I think you might be the first person who hasn't taken outlandish offence to something innocuous I've said.
Do tell.

Methinks the regulars here are completely aghast that their very own "People's Moderator" has humbled himself before your greatness, Anna.

All bow down..................now. :D
