What happened to the new set of rules?

I remember quite a while ago there was talk of LPF putting up a new set of rules.. well, actually, putting up a firm set of rules, since there really aren't any posted right now.. heh, I even remember it was in UM0's sig saying "New rules coming soon," and then it all kind of just disappeared and it was never spoke of again.

 

So is it going to happen? I'm not making this thread out of anything but concern and well, curiousity. I think they should be made.. the rules are a pretty important issue.

I hate going on forums where there are rules that are so strictly enforced.

It doesnt make the forum any fun to be at.

 

Unlike LPF, sure we have basic rules, but nothing over the top, or heavily enforced, so its a cool place to be.

 

Unlike another forum I go on, if you even say something slightly off topic, or post a link etc, you will be suspended from the forum for months.

I think the forums are fine without strictly enforced rules.

i think its' fine, i mean, everything seems to be fine, not unless there are doings of the evil that i dont know of...and thats doubtful

Nah, jk I just got caught up doing other stuff and kinda forgot about them. I actually found the txt file of them and was working on them the other day, so its funny that you brought this up.

 

And dont worry guys, we arent going to inforce the rules any more strictly than before, its just we will have all the details typed out so in case anyone wants to be an ass about something, we can go, 'well, its in the rules!'

 

They will eventually make an appearance, but probably not until after the LPF Awards '06 are done since those are enough work as it is.

Yeah when Mousy says he's been busy with stuff, he's been busy with stuff.

 

The rules will come when they're finished, it all just has its time.

They will be more accurate and better and more detailed, but basically just in the same spirit as we've had it through these 2 and a half years the site's been runnin. They'll be more like a confirmation of what's already in motion, not new rules put to enforce.

Well, to be honest, and no offense to anyone, it's quite annoying to the other members who aren't involved in the spammy conversation to read '*gives cookies*' or crap like that when they're trying to get relevant information on a certain topic. Not only that, but most importantly, it stops other people from actually contributing to the topic.

Actually this forum is pretty decent when it comes to spam... most forums are either way too strict, which makes the whole experience less fun, or they are completely out of control which is just as bad. I think a good balance isn't nessisarily a bad thing. Most people aren't looking for a totalitarian dictatorship when they are looking for a place to hang out and converse with others, lol.

Some spam is okay, but when it literally takes over a thread, then it's a bit too much. And it seems to be happening more and more often lately.

I think thats because of the fact that this forum is an LP forum, and there isn't much LP stuff goin on at the moment... there hasn't been for almost two years, lol.

 

What I found to be a very effective means of combating spam is creating an entire board dedicated to spam called "The Spam Zone." I've seen it implemented many times, where you can post whatever you like there as long as it conforms to the current rules (other than a spam rule of course.) Post count would be set at zero, so members wouldn't use this method to raise thier post counts. And considering this forum, I think a spam board is long overdue, lmao.

That shouldn't cause spam in general talk, since it doesn't really have anything to do with Linkin Park.

 

Yea, that would be nice. We had a few topics dedicated to spam in LPF games (like the insane people thread, for instance) and it seemed to help a bit. I think Hyper is on the right track.. LPF Games could just be turned into a spam board, or even like you said, just make a whole spam section. Although, I think if a spam section was made, some people would just spend their whole time in there and not post anything in the regular forums. Tough to say.

Actually, that's a pretty good point.

 

A spam section is starting to sound like a better idea.. plus, the insane people thread in the games section actually helped cut down on spam a bit, so who knows.

Just bring this over so its not forgotten in the last page, lol. I think an entirely new board for spam would help, but I say that out of experience.. I've implemented it myself in the past, and have seen implemented many times.
