My piece of rant
(haven't done this in awhile)
What I've Done is amazing, and substantially different from the songs before... though it KINDA reminded me of Breaking the Habit (which was a bit different from the other songs as I've always thought). First of all, it had no rapping (which I'd appreciate for a bit... more than Mike just going "na na na" lol) But the raplessness builds it to a very melodic song. A lot of the verses in the previous songs were recitative-like. But with WID, I found it very melodic.
Going back to my song-color-aura thing, a lot of the previous LP songs gave me blue or green vibes of different shade with a few exceptions (e.g. Figure.09) But What I've Done gave me a totally different aura. It occurred to me (before watching the vid) with a orange-brown color.
Another thing... the guitar parts. Like QWERTY, Brad gave us some refreshingly powerful parts. I don't think HT or Meteora had anything quite like the guitar solos here.
I think it was the intro that really made me think that it would sound something really like BTH. And to some rhetoric point, they do have similarities. But the developments defied that idea. WID is a completely different song. LP has shed its shell and changed into something new... yet we still hear the same LP.
Honestly, I don't think LP has deceived us at all. I find everything said about their change true. They said that they'd sound like what they sound like now. Yet it's true when they said that we'd be able to tell that it's LP from the first beat. Everything they said they would be, they are. Whether they were disappointing or pleasant changes for the fans, it'd be better to wait for the album release where we can really make the statements. But up to now, I'm very happy with the new LP.
Well maybe except the album art =P
