It's not ****, it's just there are no stable servers out there, and Dan is more proficient in the 300s.

317, add some customs if possible. (Not that colored bullshit, just the newer update items and such.)

What revision were items like ele' and all those skiller-like items introduced?

Because I wouldn't mind them incorporated..

It's not necessarily that i'm more proficient in the 300's range (old engine), it's more of the fact that the new engine requires map data.

If I don't have the map data for an area, it causes the client to crash. The only way to get map data is to get it from runescape themselves (sniff it, record it, enjoy it). Unless I use a revision that's out now, and I seriously get a high level account that will get banned 5 days after, it won't happen. Oh, and I'd have to walk through every single map area in order to get the complete world.

Many private servers only have certain areas, simply because the map data isn't available

Does than mean that because it's an older engine we can't have items like ele' etc.?

Well the items didn't exist in those revisions. I could incorporate them, but i'd rather throw myself off a cliff then to start adding "customs."

Ghost, with the later revisions like 474+ you can add a code to the client to make it so you don't need the mapdata; I did it once with my 508 client, can't remember how though D:

Yea, that's what I thought too but somehow I got it loading the maps without mapdata and it allowed me to get to areas which people didn't have the mapdata for.

Also there's ways to dump the mapdata from the client.

Unless you want to spend almost as much time as the universe's existence cracking all the XTEA keys for the client, then by all means. There was a discussion about it on Rune Server. It's the biggest reason why I don't wanna do a new engine game

Hmm yeah, if people wanted new items you could always go into custom items after you've coded most of the server; custom items can always come at a later date.
