Foo Fighters unimpressed by Linkin Park

Saturday, July 9 2005, 17:30 BST -- by Daniel Kilkelly

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has criticised bands such as Linkin Park for their use of backing tracks when performing live.

"We don't try to play perfect, like on the record," Breakingnews.ie quotes Grohl as saying.

"I'd rather sound awful and have the chance to change things at a whim than sound like Linkin Park or Motley Crue because of today's technology.

"They feel naked when it comes to playing live."

Now, I love the Foo Fighters almost as much as I love LP, but I didn't think LP had backing tracks like Dave Grohl talks about. (I thought only pop ppl like Ashlee Simpson had them.) Same with Motley Crew.

I don't honestly believe that they do... I mean has this actually been confirmed anyway?

Besides, what is wrong with using technology to sound good? Personally I would rather sound good by using some technology, than sound awful and put all my fans off. ;)

Of course they do. There's no way LP can nail the DOYS/LFY intro :p That's a backing track, Big Pimpin/Papercut the first beat is a backing track, Numb/Encore doesn't use anything except the kind of screeching sound you hear at the beginning. Jigga What/Faint doesn't use anything on the intro, it's all Phoenix and Rob :p But when the Faint part starts of course it's a backing track.

LP uses them a lot during shows, etc but probably the most recognizable is DOYS/LFY on Live 8.

Sorry to dissapoint people o_O I'm possibly wrong on some of this stuff, I'm just saying I don't think LP can play those parts so they do use backing tracks for stuff like the LP/JZ and Faint. As far as any of the LP songs, the Crawling intro was the only thing I heard that was a backing track.

So the very first thing people heard of LP at Live 8 was a backing track :(

It doesn't really bother me to be honest. I don't consider the LP / Jay-Z songs to be actual LP songs, not like their own songs. And as Shadowed Heart said... I couldn't really care... LP are LP :)

Besides, for Live 8, it had to be good. It was in a good cause after all.

[irony] foo fighters are on the radio right now [/irony]

idk,, if people wanna talk ****, lettem talk ****, it aint gonna hurt anyone, cept for themselves, they just lost me as a fan, and eventually they'll trashtalk fans of other bands into disliking them.

I dont really care. Those backing tracks are really small that no one really cares about. Now if like Chester wasnt really singing or Rob wasnt really playing drums now thats a different story. I think that dude from the Foo Fighters is just jealous. I like the Foo Fighters but still.. you dont complain of tiny little backing tracks used.. geesh..

Pfft, Dave! How dare you!!

I love the Foos still though

To be honest it doesnt bother me if they use a bit of backing tracks, I'd be pretty ****** off if they constantly used them though

as long as the fans are happy then it shouldnt really matter right? and with the Violins, they have to have that on the tracking thing you kno... its not like there gonna be a bunch of violins on stage. but it shouldnt matter as long as its an awesome show then we're all good.
