Windows 7 Upgrade

You can't upgrade this from Windows xp either. You have to buy the full version. You can only upgrade from Vista. Sounds like bull to me.

Window's 7 is supposed to be awesome... Citrix is pushing all of their employees to upgrade. They're even letting their contracters upgrade for a discounted price :D. So I'll be upgrading soon.

I still have several unused XP pro keys so I do not see windows 7 in my future anytime soon. I would wait for it to be out for awile before getting too crazy about it, remember how much hype there was for Vista before it was released?

Right now I would not use it even if it was free, maybe after it has been out for 6 months or so I will see what it is like but like a new car, never buy the first model.

They are putting this out for the people who are unhappy with vista's resource hogging... Windows 7 is like and XP/Vista hybrid and is supposed to be the shiznit.

I've heard nothing but rave reviews about it... I'm considering it, just to free up some space.

I've never had a problem with Vista... been using it since the first week it came out. It takes up serious disk space, but it works just fine.

Yeah but its a down grade from Vista so it's gonna still be a memory hog. You will still need at least GB to run it. They had the beta version out for some time now that people could check out. It almost sounds like xp is still the way to go.

A friend of mine purchased a new Vista machine to replace his two year old XP machine. Even brand new he was concerned because it seemed to be "slower" than his old machine so he brought both machines to me and we benchmarked both with several programs I have and guess what, the two year old machine was almost equal and even better than many areas of the new machine, so being as I have several XP keys I wiped his machine and installed XP pro on this Vista machine.

New benchmarks showed a 19% overall increase in performance...........Vista is garbage in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I also have some friends who were involved in the beta that say Windows 7 is way, way better than Vista but I still say it is better to let it come out for awile and see what people are saying about it in 6 months before I even consider giving it a chance.

Windows 7 is Vista 2.0, so being able to upgrade from Vista makes sense.

Microsoft isn't doing anymore with XP, are they? I don't think so, and if that is the case then it makes sense that you cannot upgrade from XP.

I have Vista on my laptop at home, and have had very very few issues with it. My computer is starting to get slow (I really need to clean it out) and was considering trying 7 in place of Vista. We'll see.

My dad has the beta version of 7, and loves it.

Yeah because Vista takes twice as much resources to run it. I just got a full version of Windows Pro for $55 online. I'm gonna try and fix a friends computer by installing it. Hopefully the problem he had was the install disks he gave me. If not I guess I got another full version for something later. I have another old beast I can give him if this doesn't work.

It's an UPgrade from Vista. It's more like XP than Vista, but it's newer, more secure, and prettier :p.

You need at least a Gig to run anything nowadays. I bought 4G for my laptop running Vista... ;)

I love speed.

The computer I'm on now has 1G or ram... It SUCKS so hard... I hate how slow it is.

when I bought my laptop 3 years ago, I coulda bought 4gb of ram for like $1000 extra. It was an insane amount of money. I have 2gb now, and it turns out that Dell says I cannot go to 4gb now, cause the computer won't handle it....

dangit.

With all this talk about performance I just want to add that it also matters what your going to be doing with the computer. If all you need is an email machine then anything is fine, get the cheapest thing you can find and be happy.

The performance issues only come in when doing either lots of things at the same time or one of a few really big things. My friend was editing and creating movies from his video camera and wanted a new computer thinking it would process the movies faster.....he was wrong. Sure the new machine had much faster parts but those faster parts were being slowed down by the anchor called Vista, once we stripped Vista off his computer he was able to get the greater performance he was looking for.....he is very happy now.

from what I can gather in my reading on this particular computer, having the 4gb of ram would have necessitated a different motherbaord.

So the 2gb extra ram + the different motherboard to handle it would have been the extra $1000.

I was messing with my comp last night and realized that I only had 5gb of hard drive space left. yikes!!!

Did some cleaning, moved some stuff to my external hard drive, and I am sitting at 32 gb free now, and if I get a couple vid projects done that are just sitting there, I can open up another 30 gb...

video is harsh on the hard drive space man, lol. :)

Ok... it makes sense now... Motherboard upgrade, yeesh... and you said 3 years ago... All this crap was more expensive a few years ago.

eddo Man get an external hard drive! For gods sake don't rely on your hard drive for your important stuff like your porno sites!

really don't worry about how big of a hard drive you have becuase it's gonna crash. It's not if but when. Now an external can crash too but what are the odds that they die together. Plus if you get one that has it's own on off switch in the back it won't run all the time. Thus it will last longer. I have an extra drive PLUS an external to back my up. Don't depend on your hard drive to hold all your crap.
