DaMan
If you have any questions concerning the guidelines you can ask them in this thread. Keep in mind while we may take your suggestions for additions to them into consideration when we revise them for now they are what they are. wez
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.. I noticed you double posted the contacting other members paragraph.. Sorry I posted that PM today, I wont do it again. I guess my only issue, which lead to that PM I posted today is that someone can't seem to get beyond a comment I made, and retracted many times about soldiers 8 months ago and claims I'm baiting and personally attacking him every time I respond to something he's posted. When in fact, it is the opposite as I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate that PM from someone either. The comments I made are still on the Uh Oh post and don't really see how they warranted that response in PM and subsequent claims that I hate America and am somehow "poisoning the well" by disagreeing with someone. Matter of fact, I agreed with this person a while back, made a comment saying, "welcome to the liberal party", which I thought was funny since this person has been calling me a liberal for a half a year and instead found myself being hypocritized for 3 days and felt I had to defend my right to be allowed to have an account. Seems I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.. I have no problem with this person and feel I can get along with any reasonable person in the world. I guess if this person can't get beyond something, they can ignore me as suggested. If my comments are out of line to anything he says that I respond to, the staff will deal with me. So I guess I really have no issues.. I fully trust the judgment of the staff here and know they are honest, fair, reasonable people. Thanks... Is that a question concerning the guidelines, or just more baiting aimed at the very person your are complaining about? No need to answer. Cloaked- Your guidelines seem fair and reasonable. Thanks. ImWithStupid
I counted at least 12 references to the ignore feature, in the rules by Cloaked, and at least 3 mentions of banning those that refuse to use it, or use restraint when banned members posts appear when the quote feature is used by a member not on a member's ignore list. Cloaked must have seen this as an important feature.
timesjoke
The rules seem pretty fair on the surface but as with all rules, it is in the enforcement that matters, not the rules themselves. I do have a couple questions though: Don't use obscene or vulgar remarks to get your point across. This makes you and Off Topic Forum look bad. Posts containing obscene or vulgar comments will be removed on sight. Racial slurs will also not be tolerated. There is a certain member who posts profanity all the time and uses tricks to avoid the filter, if the "intent" is to use profanity but special spellings and such are used, is that the same as using the correct spellings? If you feel someone is quoting a person on your ignore list purposely to incite you PM a staff member and we will look into it. If a staff member is the one quoting the ignored person such as the incident I PM'd you a couple days ago, what then? I have real issues with the ignore system because that puts the pressure of moderating offensive members on the other members instead of on the staff but in the attempt to keep the peace here, I have just put Wez on my ignore list. This will be the first forum I have ever been a part of that this function was used by me, and it truly saddens me to be completely honest. The last thing that a member cannot play ostrich with is the shoutbox though, maybe something should be considered to deal with that problem as well, maybe allow a member to shut off the shoutbox if we are going to stick with the ostrich approach to moderation. There is a certain member who posts profanity all the time and uses tricks to avoid the filter, if the "intent" is to use profanity but special spellings and such are used, is that the same as using the correct spellings? The idea is, to encourage posting without over excessive metaphors. We could do a search for all KNOWN curse words, but of course, you can't catch them all or their variances. The only thing we can do is keep a look out for them. Too bad it's not your site, so you can just keep having issue with it The last thing that a member cannot play ostrich with is the shoutbox though, maybe something should be considered to deal with that problem as well, maybe allow a member to shut off the shoutbox if we are going to stick with the ostrich approach to moderation. Or better yet, if someone wants to nit pick, I have a simpler answer... GOODBYE. . . https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars
snafu
Hay come on. I like the filter. I cuss. I cuss all the time. Sorry it's in my nature. I keep it down to a dull roar but the filter works fine. Intent to use profanity does not constitute the use. Unlike our society we don't prosecute on intent. If you feel someone is quoting a person on your ignore list purposely to incite you PM a staff member and we will look into it. Must have missed the part about contacting an admin in cases like that. I see 2 clear violations of the guidelines in this thread and warnings are about to be sent.
