Proposal

[BAM]

I propose a thread to be closed after ...let's say 300 posts (that's about 20 pages) and not let topics become boring. We leave the impression to our guests (and here are many guests everyday) that we don't take much care of this site and we are sloppy...If someone wants to stat the topic again, because it was a popular one they could do it (i already saw that people do that...Bla-bla-bla Part2..Part3...etc)

 

Just thought that it will improve the site image (aestethical considerations mostly)

I would say that it shows the opposite to guests. The fact that this forum regularily reaches a page count of +20 on many threads shows that the members are really devoted to the forums and that it's active in here.

 

I couldn't see the point in closing a thread unless it is absolutely huge, to be honest. Then the forum will just get choked up with duplicates of the same thread.

You see, if we cut every thread off at 300 posts we would have a whole bunch of popular topics spread across several threads in a short time. How would a guest feel if they saw three or four threads in a row about the same topic? If I was Guest I would think of that as boring.

When a thread is done, it goes away on its own. I don't think there is any reason to help it along.

I know where you're coming from BAM, but I don't think that's quite as aggeresive as the site wants to deal with it. I do think that once a topic gets to long a mod should close it and start a new one, but it shouldn't be like a system or something where that happens all the time. Don't worry about it, mods have it covered.

yeah cuz ive set up a few topics...that grow about 10 pages in one day

Nah I dont like it. I mean, someone could start a topic again and that same topic could actually be on the 2nd page of threads. Its just flooding the whole board. Thats why we even close threads.. if we didnt.. we would have like a 1000 useless threads..

When threads are long, it shows they are good and it also shows a level of involvement. Threads die off on there own perfectly, so why change anything?

well,u're right on that one...but not completely

u can put a man write u some things about an object as i might say...until at a point he only talks about that thing....after a while he starts to deviate from the subject...but it's normal,it's human

so yeah some of the posts might be long but not very specific,see what i mean??

yeah most of them are good,but not always long posts are good
