Vash_the_Stampede Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Ok, I am going to address these issues right now... Inactive accounts: First off let me ask you this, would you be more likely to take the time to register a a forum that has 4000 members, or 400 member? Most forums recieve more registrations if they have a good bit of user accounts. I know alot are not active, but why stop someone who might want to come back to the forum in the future. Look at Vahs, he went like 9 months inactive. If I had deleted his account he might not have come back. News/Portal: I would gladly add a portal to this site if I could find a group of respectful members that are willing to take the time to find news stories. If you would be willing ot then please PM me and I will put this together. Banning: There is no possible way to keep someone from coming to this site. I try my best keep an eye out for banned users who recreate accounts. It is hard though. Anyone here is more then welcome to PM me if they suspect a member is someon who has been banned in the past. Punishment: In the next few weeks, I will be entering a new punishment policy that is going to ban users for 1 week on there second warning/compalint. Then ban completely if they have a third warning/complaint. Inactiveness of LPF: Ok, I know this is a major problem, but there are a few things that are causing this all of which are out of my hands. One, it is summer, people are taking trips, people are outside more. Second, LP is not doing anything. They have no tour, no album, no news. Nothing! It is hard for people to talk about LP when LP has nothing to talk about. Adding mods: noted. I will add some in the near future. Some stuff is going on behind the scenses of LPF at the moment and they are delaying somethings I have wanted to do. Fighting/Spaming/Flaming: Next to every post is a [broken External Image]:http://www.linkinparkforums.com/images/LPF/buttons/report.gif icon. Click this to report post to me and the mods. If a member is causing problems, report his post. It is hard for just a few people to read ever single post made on this site. We need our members to make us aware of bad post. Keep them coming. I am always interested in what my members have to say. I am very much open to hearing what you all have to say. How long was it really... I cant remember... :: goes & looks at the archives for dates :: Good bye, auf wiedersehen, adiós, sayonara Gone
nkramar78 Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 How long was it really... I cant remember... :: goes & looks at the archives for dates :: Users have been known to have extended absences... I've taken breaks from several boards over the years. The point is that I was active previous to my leaving and remained active when I returned. How many registered usernames are there that have gone unused, say for over a year?
Vash_the_Stampede Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Well, I have no answer to your question nkramar, but I finally did the math, & I was gone for a good 10 months. Good bye, auf wiedersehen, adiós, sayonara Gone
Shadowed Heart Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Well' date=' I have no answer to your question nkramar, but I finally did the math, & I was gone for a good 10 months.[/quote'] While we're on this subject. Would you have come back Vash (if your accout was deleated)? {Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.} http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/2f43bfab2b64268a8552c7de93432ec4.jpg Write "Love" On Your Arm. Hybrid Soldier Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Well' date=' I have no answer to your question nkramar, but I finally did the math, & I was gone for a good 10 months.[/quote'] Hmmm.I wonder how long I was gone....*checks like vash* EDIT: I was gone for 4 months, I seriously thought it was more.
nkramar78 Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Well' date=' I have no answer to your question nkramar, but I finally did the math, & I was gone for a good 10 months.[/quote'] The longest I've gone was 6 months. If and when a person decides to come back, creating a new account isn't all that bad. I know of some LPUers who have decided to renew after their first account/subscription expired... So they just create a new username and in their sig will list 'Formerly known as (x)'. Not a big deal, and I completely understand the whole concept of wanting it to look like a more active community with higher member numbers... Currently the LPU has over 70,000 registered users. Current ACTIVE estimates are around 1000. I'd say less than that at the moment...
uwantme2b Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 ATLien brings up a valid point about the inactive members... we might not want to delete them... but, is there a way to maybe send a message through their email asking for their support? maybe some of them will get active that way... just a a thought I think with some of the members, it would be pointless; the ones who joined up a year ago and have never once posted. It seems fairly clear that they aren't going to return. However, an email prompt could be a good idea for members who used to be active, but are no longer? It's true that people just do take breaks sometimes. I remember when I first joined here, I wasn't terrible active for a month or two before I settled in. Would it be possible to have a facility for members to request to have their account terminated? That way, if somebody knew they were going to leave for good, they can ask a Mod/Admin to remove their account and off they go, rather than just going, and leaving everybody unsure whether or not they are still here. I know that if I personally were going to leave - although I have no intention of it - I wouldn't like to leave my account here just as it is. http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/9b54002b9ea728de39c3770316d52169.jpg Shark picture by Graham Lambert Rep me please :-)
Qwest Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 How about more giveaways and a REAL journal feature addition to the site? http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/8ccf4d69b6805f847fd8104b3eaee20d.png [broken External Image]:http://www.lapgamer.com/lapgamer_banner728.gif
Clogz Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 ATLien is right though. If a person has made an account, they could come back at any time. I can't even count how many times I have read this line in the New Member Introductions threads: "Hi. I made an account here a while ago, but I decided to start posting now." As far as giveaways go, maybe we should consider the Hybrid Theory EP or other rare LP goodies. I would love a chance to get something like that.. And then I felt chills in my bones / The breath I saw was not my own I knew my skin that wrapped my frame / Wasn't made to play this game XXI
Hyper Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 ::sigh:: why does it feel like qwest is going to be an admin? lol XD, anyways, a *real* journal wouldn't necessarily be good. i mean.. i have all them blogs and shit, but i don't use em, only use my journal here.. cuz it's.. a discussion type, and not, people commenting. it's just.. easier, for me, the way it is. maybe adding games to the site? i know there are mods for forums, not sure if there's one for vBulletin, but yeah, that'd make it more entertaining to be here. or maybe.. add a computer tech section, cuz it seems a lot of people eff up their comps. those are just some ideas, i'll prolly think of more at work,s o yeah, if i do, i'll post em in about 7 hours XD Dec 13, 2004 -------- Joined LPF as the 2351st Member Apr 30, 2005 -------------------------- Promoted to Elite http://www.lpstreetteam.com/CDA5240F87574D8387EBDE8FEC733210/tracklink.asp?guid=8F1721DCBF774CCA9064DA56BC6E7DD8
Clogz Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 That might detract from the already faltering forum involvement though, if we gave people games to play. Maybe someone should make a 'game link' thread somewhere, in which we could all post links of games online that we have found and liked. Just a thought. And then I felt chills in my bones / The breath I saw was not my own I knew my skin that wrapped my frame / Wasn't made to play this game XXI
LPGotLinkinPark Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I think the biggest problem is lack of posting. Pretty much all the active members just randomly left or got banned for something stupid. There are very few new topics a day. There aren't any actual discussions like there used to be. I'm not sure how you would fix that problem. To have better threads I guess you'd need better members, which you really can't just decide to make one day. rep me!! | xanga | add me on myspace
ATLien Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Give aways are hard, because I am not made of money. If you actually supported the site can clicked ont eh banners that we have had in the past, then we would have money, and could give away stuff. The store idea can't happen. There are laws, we can not print LP's name on anything in a effort to make a profit. As far as emailing old members, welll we have done it in the past, and had nothing but negaitive response. Lots of people come to the site and complain about the junk mail they recieve. Touching on the LPF Awards: I figured' date=' but I think we should know what you guys are doing, especially if you are far enough along to have an "lpf_awards_july" account.[/quote'] When we post them publicly you will know, you have no reason to need to know before hand. Hybrid Soldier Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 There are laws' date=' we can not print LP's name on anything in a effort to make a profit.[/quote'] Also, for legal reasons that isnt true at all. Linkin Park for some reason couldnt trademark their name, so anyone can make shirts or posters or w/e with their name and sell them.

Ravynlee Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Touching on the LPF Awards: When we post them publicly you will know, you have no reason to need to know before hand.I hope this doesn't sound disrespectful because I don't intend to insult anyone, but isn't this part of the problem? A few people have brought up the fact that the forum needs to be unified in community spirit and all that, but how does one provide an overall sense of unity when you make comments like this? I understand as Mods and Admins you have enough to do behind the scenes as it is and don't need all us 'noobs' pestering you, but it almost sounds like there's a deliberate divide set in place between those in power and the rest of us enjoying the site in relative ignorance. Like I said, I hope I'm not treading on anyone's toes here, but if the whole purpose for the awards is to pick up the overall content and morale and incite more activity, and even introduce more members why not keep them posted every step of the way? It's tedious, probably time consuming, whatever, I have no clue on the technicalities and all, but a simple sentence here and there might keep interest peaked. This whole 'expect something big to happen in the next few weeks' thing that someone made reference to earlier is a perfect example... by now I'd actually forgotten about that myself and assume after a quick scan through this thread that these awards must be the promised 'big thing'? Am I wrong in my assumptions? *shrugs* Please, tell me to pull my head in at any point if you think I'm overstepping my bounds, but I just thought I'd voice my opinion. Afterall, technically that's the point of places like this, isn't it? People coming together and voicing opinions and so forth...? But before I go again, I will agree that a 'store' offering LP merch may open up a can of worms as far as litigation goes. As for actual rewards? Some people seemed chuffed just having their names go green so give them a coloured tag beneath their name or something that says what they won as a 'prize'? It's simple enough, cheap really... pretty colours, can't go wrong... *grins* (I'm not aiming for sarcasm here, despite how it may sound. Unintentional). Anyway, thanks for your time and for listening. Anyway, thanks for your time and for listening. Take care and TTYL, -Rav Well, Vash already made a thread announcing to the boards that the LPF awards are in the works...so actually we are 'in the loop'. But you have to realize that there will always be a divide between staff and members, because the roles are different. Even though the mods and admins are cool people and our friends, they still have a job to do. I believe in free information, but I don't think the mods and admins should be harrassed about it either. And then I felt chills in my bones / The breath I saw was not my own I knew my skin that wrapped my frame / Wasn't made to play this game XXI

That was what I was going to say. There is a difference between being a unified community, and letting the staff do what they need to. It is not like we don't tell you everything eventually, it is just that some stuff doesn't need to get out till a certain time. i.e. the Awards, if we can we are going to start working on the awards, then we will have people trying to win there way in the the awards. The awards are to award people for there roll ont he site, no somebody who wants to win so is poster child for a few weeks. Atlanta Web Design http://www.ATLChris.com
Spike_1412 Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I've had another brainwave! What about adding a downloads section to the site? The twist is, you have to be a registered and active member to be able to access it. Or you have to login again to enter it. Just an idea. Choose Life. Choose Love.
nkramar78 Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I've had another brainwave! What about adding a downloads section to the site? The twist is, you have to be a registered and active member to be able to access it. Or you have to login again to enter it. Just an idea. 1) Bandwidth/storage issues. Offering media downloads is very cost prohibitive. 2) Copyright issues. No copyrighted material could be posted. 3) Contribution issues. Who's supplying the media? I do like the idea, but there are already some very good sites that have media downloads available. This one would have to set itself apart to make it a success.

I was thinking that maybe a mod/admin could set up ONE acount for the whole of LPF, and PM/email the Account name + p/word to a member if they want to upload something. 2) You're right. None of LP's albums would be posted, with the exceptions of HTEP, and the Xero Sampler tape. Other rare audio could also be uploaded. 3) The Members of LPF would supply the media. Choose Life. ATLien Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Ok, as suggested by some members I have sent out mass emailing to all the current registared member, letting them know there username and password, and the forgot password link. Everyone should have received that. The one that you all wont recieve is a one that I sent to everyone who registared but did no activiate there account. I sent usernames, emails, and activation links in that email so maybe we will see some new people on LPF in the next few days. Atlanta Web Design http://www.ATLChris.com
linkinpark-1 Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 The Guitar giveaway really brought in a lot of people so doing something like that in the future would be a good idea. But I understand that you may not have the money right now which is fine. I think having an LPF Newscaster would be really fun. It wouldn't be updates about the band, but about things that are going on with LPF. So if someone was gone for a week they could check out what they missed. It could either be in the form of a video or written out. I would be will to help with either. I think we should have a Movie/Television section. That way it wouldn't crowd up the General Talk. Those are my opinions :/ [broken External Image]:http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/2024/jjsigcopysh3.jpg [broken External Image]:http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/2696/21fv1.jpg http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/0e95bf2e43a7435da74db1da86fac0d9.png MySpace!
