Hey,

This sort of an observation I have made...

Why is it that when an old thread gets bumped up from someone posting in it, it gets locked/closed whatever...but then we are told off for making repeat threads, because it's spamish? Umm, what exactly is the go here?

good question..... i supose it might be if it was extremely old...like from last year or something, then i think it would get locked/closed

Alot of bumping is done by 'noobs' trying to increase their post counts to look cool and what not. Mind you, if the 'bump' is relevant its highly unlikely you will get flamed for it.

If a thread is really old, and you wish to reply and its relevant, go ahead, but if its just a pointless comment, that doesnt change whats already been stated in that thread previously, dont bother replying. Making multiple threads clogs up the forums with the same stuff. If your post is relevant, bump the old thread, if its not, dont bump the thread and/or make a new topic.

EDIT: Yeah, shadow is right. *Reps*

We dont care too much if someone starts a topic similar to an old one, just so long as its been a quite a few months since the last time someone brought it up. (Probably at least 4) Otherwise you should just use the search feature to continue and continue the old one. What we really dont like is when we get two of the same topic within a week or two of each other because someone was being lazy.

It also depends whether or not we think the thread bing bumped is a good topic or if the post actually added anything new to it...

Example:

6 Month old thread, kinda stupid topic (no offense), and the post didnt add anything to the thread anyway. Therefore locked.

7 Month old thread, pretty good topic, could come up again. Post was relavent and added to the topic. Thefore, left open.

Bumping is still discouraged and in both cases it appears she was just trying to find old things to contribute to so she could up her post count.

I agree with UM0, its really annoying, seeing the same thread over and over and over, especially in a short time period, especially ones where new people join the forums, and ask stupid questions that fansites could easily answer, or the search button would bring up a topic for them to read.
