Because that is what makes the news and gets people riled up. Riled up people = ratings and papers sold. Would it make it any less sickening if this guy had been a democratic pagan? or a independant jew? or the King of France? no.

Probably not as many as we would all like. Pedophilia, like many other forms of physical abuse, is a cycle. You get abused, later you do the abusing. It takes a lot to not turn back to what you grew up with. Having said that, this dude is scum. But to blame his actions on God or religion is pretty much the same as him blaming his previous abuser or alcohol for his actions. He did the deed. Not the boose, not the priest (not this time anyway,) not his dad, and certainly not God.
