Her alarm clock rang, waking her violently. She sighed. She eased her self out of bed and went to the bathroom to take a shower. She looked in the mirror, her skin was slightly pale, her brown hair was going insane from the morning humidity. She smiled at herself in the mirror. The butterflies tickling her stomach lightly. She was super nervous. Today was the day, she was going to California, to live and tour with her favorite band of all time, Linkin Park. She was surprised her parents had let her sign the consent letter. She quickly showered and dressed. She grabbed her bags and iPOD and walked into the living room.
“ Buen día hija estas lista?” Her mother asked her.
“Si, Let’s go.” She said heading for the garage to pack her things in the car. She sat in the car waiting for her parents, so they can take her to the airport. The butterflies worst than ever. From the window she saw one of her best friends. She waved good bye; to lazy to get out of the car. Finally her parents came around to getting into the car. Her father started up the car. She turned on her iPOD. She jammed as the car pulled out of the driveway. The car ride to the airport was long and slow. Her mother wasn’t talking; probably from the fact that she was finally letting her baby fly out of the nest. Her father sipped his coffee. Finally they made it to the airport. Her sister was there. She smiled. They pulled up and she got her one piece of luggage, her carryon bag, and her personal bag and headed towards to her sister.
“Hey Olgui.” She said hugging her big sister deeply.
“Hey, Mama, are you excited?”
“Yeah.” She said nervously.
“Well let’s get inside and get everything ready.”
They went inside and checked everything in. She got her Underage Passenger card and sat down in one of the chairs to wait for her parents. Her parents walked her to the gate. The anxiety was slowly taking over every inch of her body. She waited. Her parents waited. Her sister waited. Together they waited. This was the first time she was leaving Houston without any of her family, but after all she was turning fourteen the next day. It was time for her to have some independence; this trip would teach her some life lessons. Finally the airport people called for first class passengers to board the flight she was taking to California. The representative who had sent her winner’s letter was kind enough to send her a first class ticket. She hugged her sister good bye and bid her farewells to her crying mother and father. She felt tears slide down her cheeks.
“I’ll miss you. I’ll call when I get there.” She said bidding her last farewell to her family.
She boarded the plane that would take her to her new home for the next year; California.
