Deadly And Scary Animals

I don't know why anyone would want to go to THAT country. Guess some people like the risk of being a shark, reptilian or bug the size of someone's head's breakfast.

We don't have grizzly bears.

We do have leaping crocs, wild boars to 500 pounds, and did I mention 20 foot long white pointers? A young man in Adelaide was being towed behind his boat on a surf-board, when a great white nailed him.

I would LOVE to get the change to see a great white in action (without actually being in the water). Like they did on the Discovery Channel on Shark Week...They dragged a penguin carcass behind the boat, and then when the shark was about to bite they would whip it out of the air and the shark would go after it. ******* COOL. Now that I think about it, I would probably go down in one of those cages. Sharks are way cool and the ones at the Aquarium are usually pretty lame. Never get to watch em' feed.

Aaaah, arachnaphobia. The simple pleasures of life. :D
I had one of these bird spiders drop on my head. I thought my mate had placed his hand on my noggin and squeezed it gently. I turned around, and eeeeep did the old knock-the-top-off-my-head dance, to a fast mexican beat. Lucky they are pretty harmless. It took some shaking off. Brrrrrrrrrr.

so much for me wanting to visit your country..........EEP

Oh that camel spider thing (the picture with 2 desert spiders clinging together)...guess they arent spiders after all...but arthropods...

Shark Week actually fell on my vacation this year. I was up until 2 or 3 a.m. every night watching it! When we went to Boston, I spent the first day in the hotel just watching the sharks..My poor BF was soooo sick of sharks by the end of that week!!

Ummm... spiders are arthropods too. A camel spider is what is called a solfugid. Centipedes, scoripons, insects, spiders...all arthropods as well. Basically any animal with segmented legs is considered an arthropod which basically means "jointed feet".

But one shark I admire for its beauty, strength, and bravery...the shortfin mako. It is also one of the scariest sharks you want to go face to face with. Ever seen the teeth on those guys? Very few sharks would ever try to provoke a mako. Usually during a feeding frenzy, these sharks will chase away a group of blue sharks. You gotta be pretty brave to do that.

If that spider fell on me, I would probably soil myself.

We have one on the wall over our freezer inteh garage. I will try to take a pic and load it up. I spent the whole summer playing "MAKO" in teh pool (as it is the fastest shark and leaps out of the water) LOL I told my kid is OBSESSED!!!!!

My dad spent time as a shark hunter and dies missing a piece of thumb that he had lost to a hammer head. I have no love for sharks, they scare the **** out of me (but somehow never made me miss a good swell) Go figure LOL

I was snorkelling at cape Moreton in about 18 feet of water, when a rather large shadow passed over me. I prayed that it was a boat or something. It was a hammerhead shark about 15 feet long. That freaked me. I didn't know I could hold my breath for that long.

Another day we were waiting for a barge to come pick us up, and we all watched as two bronze whaler sharks, about 11 feet long, circled in the shallows picking up fish frames that someone had tossed in. I waded in knee-deep, and slapped them as they circled in. They were so intent on feeding that they ignored me.

once you have done scuba, snorkeling is a total waste of time.......

id rather take a course on "mens sensitivity training" than do that after i have scubad

however, one of the groups in mexico i was with had to kick off a small school of barracudas because they started nipping at them.......

whew.....glad i wasnt with them!

But the sights were amazing......as always! I love me some scuba!...kinda bummed i didnt get to see any octopus this time........they are so neat to watch!

I scuba, though I hate not being able to see the lid of the ocean. I have to control my urge to scream for the top. The first time I went below 60 feet, I freaked out and spat the reg, and powered to the surface. The instructor followed me up, and said that if I wasn't screaming all the way up, I could have been in trouble.

I snorkel because it is illegal to spear-fish with breathing apparatus in Australian waters. I solo spear up to two miles offshore, spearing longtail tuna and spanish mackeral.

I tow them home on sixty feet of cord. Haven't lost one yet. The biggest danger is speedboats not watching the "road". I've had to duck for cover a few times now.

Just to say... I am loving this thread!!!
Me too, TizzIE. ;)

There's one "sport" that I'm still getting my head around. It's called "Noodling" and involves freediving (snorkelling) into muddy waters with zero visibility, and wriggling your fingers around in the hope that a giant catfish will engulf your arm.

Now that is extreme sport.

Well Tizz, that noodling is a yank sport.

I'm in awe. Some of those "fishermen" end up being caught themselves.

The shark is usually the animal that was blamed for oceanic fish attacks. But there are creatures just as nippy as the shark. Check out this toothy creature that can be just as deadly. This fish is seriously attracted to shiny objects which appear like the silvery sheen of a fish. Behold, the barracuda.
