Perhaps I will be the first to say this. I should really be the last.
EMO is a stereotype. Certain attributes are attached to being EMO. For instance, emo children are between the ages of 13-17. Emo children listen to artists like Poison the Well, Cradle of Filth, Disturbed, Slipknot, etc etc. Emo children believe that absolutely no one understands them. They might have a bad home life and relationship issues. Their idea of dealing with it is wearing all black, they disassociate themselves with everyone, they turn up their music and they self inflict wounds on themselves. Emo children are often anti-social/slightly hermetic. They think that to be popular is to be traiterous or to be airheaded/snobby. Being emo means that you hate life or you hate the way your boyfriend looks at other girls, or you hate the way your girlfriend never shuts up about suicide or how bad they think they have it.
Maybe I am wrong.
But how many people that wear clothes that fit, have colours, listen to country, respect their elders, get straight A's, have a good relationship, get along with their parents, have a decent job, never think about suicide and are called EMO? How many? NONE!!!! This is because they have no attributes attached to the term emo, or what it means to be emo. Listen man, let it go. Emo is just a new spin on an old stereotype. Just like jocks, nerds, cheerleaders, emo is now a new stereotype that the media has catered to. If someone called you emo, suck it up and walk away. Unless you change who you are, you can not change what you are called.
