"Kenji are you sure that you're gonna be alright?"
She hugged the frog that joe had given her along time ago.
"Yeah. It was just so real the memories."
"Kenji you couldnt help it. it wasnt your fault. you couldnt have stopped it if you tried."
Kenji laid her head back on Joe's chest. Joe smiled as he ran his fingers through her hair. He took in a deep wiff of the scent of her hair. It smelled of Mangos and vanilla.
"So are you two like in love or do I have to try and knock you two together?"
Kenji and Joe Jumped as Dave nudged them. He gave a smirk
"Well if it makes you two feel any better, Its school and we have to get up."
They sat in english class and were almost bored to tears.
"Now I'm going to pass out the books and we will start reading William Shakesphears Romeo and Juliet."
Dave raised his hand.
"Mrs. Lawson, we read that in ninth grade."
"I know you did, but you will have to preform it before your parents and the student body."
There was a groan that went through the class.
"I have already picked the parts. so here they are."
She pulled up the overhead screen and there on the chalk board were the names.
"It was a had decesion but here are the characters
Tybalt is going to played by Chester Bennington
Mercutio is going to be played by Joe Hahn
Lord Capulet is going to be played by Rob bourdon

"*** I can't believe that you and Dave got the parts."
Joe said as he watched Dave's frutile atempts at trying to steal the soccer ball from Kenji. Dave picked himself up again as he missed the ball.
"Its all good."
Kenji said. Rob frowned.
"Hey that's my line!"
Kenji laughed as she manuvered the ball out from under dave's foot again. He groaned.
"So do you guys want to come over to my house to practice the lines? Since we do have to put the play on infront of the whole school."
Mike said.
"Can't I have practice. And Kenji is gonna try out for the team too since there's no girls team."
Dave said.
"But we'll come later after practice."
Kenji said. The bell rang signafying that final break was over and the day was finished. Dave picked up the ball and his duffle bag. Kenji grabbed hers and followed Dave.
"We don't have a girls locker room so If you wait here for about three minutes the coast will be clear."
They waited untill the locker room was cleared out. Dave had his back turned to Kenji as he waited for her to change.
"So what's the deal between you and joe? Are you two like childhood sweethearts?"
Kenji pulled her practice shirt over her head, a gray tanktop with a phoenix on the front.
"No, we're just best friends. That's all. We're really close too."
"That's good......."
Dave said offhandedly as he sat down with her and put on his shin pads.
"I thought you liked Lindsey?"
"I do its just she only likes me because I'm on the soccer team."
Kenji put a hand on Dave's shouledr.
"Well then girls like that aren't worth your time. You should find someone who likes you for you."
Dave smiled a little shyly.
"Thank you."
The coach blew his wistle and the team lined up. The coach looked Kenji up and down. Her chest was barely moving after the suicides he made them run all durring practice.
"Boys you better start being like this girl over here. She ran all practice and didnt stop. She's not even tired unlike you. Brian, if you want to stay captian you better kick it into gear. Showers now!"
He barked. Dave wiped his face off with his shirt. they walked slowly to the locker room.
"Man you were good."
Dave said as he gave her a punch on the arm.
"Your not too bad. I was just trying to keep up with you."
"I don't know I bottomed out when I got to 70."

Dave tossed his backpack in the bed of his truck. He then helped Kenji put her Bike in the bed too followed by her book bag. They got into the cab and dave started the truck.
"Do you think we can stop by my house? I need to pick some things up from my house."
Dave grinned.
"Yeah sure. Are you staying at Joe's again?"
"I don't know where I'm staying. I'll find some place. I dont want to keep anoying Joe and his parents."
Dave stopped at a stoplight.
"You can stay with me. My parents are on bisuness trips and they wont be there for about a week. We have a guest room and everything."
"Alright. If its not too much trouble."
They drove to her house. She had Dave wait in the truck because she knew that her dad was there. Hopefully he was in a drunk stupidor. Unfortunantly she was wrong. She nursed a ****** nose and a busted lip by the time she made it out the door. She tossed her bag in the back and slid into the front seat. Dave looked at her.
"Are you alright?"
"Just drive my dad's half drunk and he's ******."
Dave floored it and then Drove off. After they made it out of the rundown neighborhood, dave stopped the truck.
"Just tell me what happened."
"I can't Dave."
He handed her a rag from the glove compartment. She placed it on her nose to catch the blood.
"Alright. Just know that I'm here to help."
"I know."
Kenji said as she let a tear slip down her cheek.
"Ok lets try that scene again. I just want to make it look convincing."
Dave said. The others groaned.
"Dave we've been through this scene three times."
Chester groaned. Dave turned back to his book.
"O, wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?"
He looked up at Kenji.
"What satisfaction canst thou have to-night?"
Kenji said. Her eyes wandered from Dave to Joe. JOe was starting to make her feel a little incomfortable.
"The exchange of thy love's faithful vow for mine."
Dave said. Kenji smiled. that was the first time he had put true feeling into what they were doing.
"I gave thee mine before thou didst request it:
And yet I would it were to give again."
Kenji said. Her breath seemed to catch up in her throat. They went through the scene once more. Dave paused.
"THis is where we're suposed to kiss....."
Dave said softly as the other guys were asleep. They had fallen asleep when they went through the scene again.
"Maybe we should.."
Kenji said, their lips less then inches apart. She could feel his warm breath. It smelled like cinnimon from the gum he had chewed after practice.
"I guess...."
They kissed.
"Hem hem."
"Its about time!"

"So Dave I thought you liked lindsey."
Brad said as he nudged him with his elbow. Dave started stammering.
"well......uhh....I...."
Kenji just smiled.
"So are you two going to go to the dance together?"
Chester asked.
"I havent thought about it really...."
Kenji said. Dave nodded his head in agreement to show he hadnt thought about it either.
"Besides I thought The dance was the same night as our big game against the Diablos."
Dave said wondering out loud. Rob started chuckeling.
"Its about two hours after the game. The game's at four thirty and the dance dosent start till eight. It goes from Eight to midnight. Its the halloween ball sort of thing."
Rob said.
"So let me get these things strait with you guys and the girls. Brad, its you and monica right?"
Brad nodded his head.
"Joe and Megan?"
Joe nodded his head.
"Chester and a cow."
"HEY! NOT FUNNY!!"
Everyone started laughing.
"Yeah it is."
"ok ok chester and his new girl Khristine."
"Thats more like it."
Chester said his ears turning red.
"Mike and Anna. And Finally Rob and Mike's cousin Casey."
"Yeah I think you got all of us Kenj, except for one....."
Mike said, his eyes flashing mischeviously.
"Davey boy and Kenji!!!"
Every one said making kissing noises. Dave's ears went almost as red as his shirt. Kenji looked at her shoes and played with a hole in her pants leg.
"So do you have to dress up as anything?"
Kenji asked as she continued playing with the hole.
"No, They just give out masks. They do this awesome little game where they split up the guys and the girls and then the guys have to figure out who their date is."
Joe said excitedly.
"I guess I'll go."
Kenji said. Everyone then turned and looked at Dave.
"You know what this means right?"
Dave gave his friends an evil glare.
"Yeah yeah."
Three days passed with out too much problem. Kenji stayed with Dave for a while since she heard out that her evil step mom left her dad. She knew that her dad wouldnt be too happy about it. Chester got a weeks worth of detention for fighting with Zack Hayes and Daniel Caulder. Then the day of the big game/dance right after third period, the students found all of the girls lockers with black and orange carnations on each of the lockers. (this is something they used to do at my old school called ghost-grams for 2 dollars you got a black and orange carnation with a little thing that you could write a message on) Kenji found a black and orange carnation taped to her locker. She set her messanger bag down on the floor while she carefully undid the tape. The guys's girlfriends gathered around her. They had become pretty cool with eachother. besides she needed someone other then guys to talk to.
"You got one too?"
Monica asked showing hers to Kenji.
"Me too! Joe got me one."
Megan said. Khristina showed them the one that Chester got her.
"I got one from Rob."
"Mike got me one he's such a sweetie."
Anna gushed. Kenji laughed as she put hers safely in her bag and opened up her locker.
"Aren't you going to see who sent it to you?"
Anna asked. Kenji nodded as she put her Journalisim book up and grabbed her Chemistry book and art notebooks.
"I will when I get to Chem. Besides I think I know who sent it anyways."
"ooh who?"
The girls asked as they walked to Chemistry class. The minute they walked in, Rob, Chester, Brad, Mike and Joe automatically went to their girlfriends. Kenji sat down by dave.
"You know its almost like they're magneticaly attracted to each other."
Dave commented. He then saw that Kenji had a ghost gram. Suddenly he got nervous... Kenji started reading the ghost gram. She smiled to herself. She looked up at dave.
"Of course I'll go with you to the dance tonight."
Kenji said. Dave let out a breath of relief.
"Ok. well I guess we're gonna have fun. Soccer and Dancing. I warn you im not too good of a dancer."
"Me either, your not alone."
Kenji bushed as she brushed against Dave's arm. The bell rang and Mrs. Spizla the chemistry teacher started writing on the board. Dave took some paper out and started writing on it. Kenji tried to pay attention, but her mind was elsewhere. There was alot of pressure on her with the game tonight. Plus she was nervous about the dance with dave. What if she messed up so bad on the field tonight that he didnt ever want to see her ugly face again? The bell rang signeling that class was up. She was going to art with Joe, Chester and Mike. Dave handed her a piece of paper. It looked like the one that he was writing on durring class. She opened it up as she walked with the guys to art.

Mike asked as he peered over her shoulder. Kenji quickly folded up the paper and put it in her pocket.
"Something that maybe you should do for anna some time."
She retorted as she stuck her tounge out at him.
"What's that?"
"Write a love note."
Durring seventh period, they called for all of the soccer players to meet in the gym. There was a cheer from their friends and their girlfriends. She and Dave walked side by side and everytime they brushed up against eachother they blushed. They changed into uniform then met at the bus. Coach Hagens already had the managers putting the gear on the bus. As they drove to the other school, Coach gave the the all important this is the big one so dont blow it speech. it was almost dark as they reached the other school. They went on the field and warmed up. There was a bus from their school that had alot of the students on it. Dave and Kenji spotted the guys and their girls in the stands. They stood up as the ref blew the whistle and the teams shook hands.
The soccer match was bad. They won by only one point and the coach wasnt too happy about it. Hagens said that next practice would have more suicides in it. Dave rubbed his back as he and Kenji walked in to his house.
"You want first shower?"
Dave asked her. Kenji's cell phone started buzzing.
"No you can have it."
Kenji waited till Dave had already gone upstairs to answer the phone.
"Hello?"
"Kenj, its Ray. I'm calling from the hospital."
"Is my mom alright?"
"Yeah shes still in a coma but me and everyone come up to visit her alot."
"Ok just call me if anything happens alright ray ray?"
"Yeah and aunt suzie says hi."
She hung up her phone. Her mom had been in a coma for almost a year now. Her dad had hit her and really dammaged her brain. Her two uncles and three aunts and their kids would go and see her when they could. Kenji was closest to her cousin Raymond or ray ray as they called him. Dave called and said it was her turn for the shower. Kenji let the water pound on he like a monsoon. She brushed her short hair back and put on her favorite girly tee-shirt that had a flying monkey on it saying "I'd send my monkies after you..." on the front and on the back it said"...but their tired of chasing witches." She pulled on a pair of black jeans with a silver dragon embroidered on the leg. SHe looked at the clock. she still had time. She walked down the stairs. As she stopped in the hallway she noticed that there was a bruise on her jawline. She didnt know where she had gotten it from. Maybe it was from her dad, maybe it was from soccer. Dave stood up from his seat in the kitchen where he was checking messages on the answering machine. He suprised her by giving her a hug. But then to his suprise she hugged him back.

Her two uncles and three aunts and their kids would go and see her when they could. Kenji was closest to her cousin Raymond or ray ray as they called him. Dave called and said it was her turn for the shower. Kenji let the water pound on he like a monsoon. She brushed her short hair back and put on her favorite girly tee-shirt that had a flying monkey on it saying "I'd send my monkies after you..." on the front and on the back it said"...but their tired of chasing witches." She pulled on a pair of black jeans with a silver dragon embroidered on the leg. SHe looked at the clock. she still had time. She walked down the stairs. As she stopped in the hallway she noticed that there was a bruise on her jawline. She didnt know where she had gotten it from. Maybe it was from her dad, maybe it was from soccer. Dave stood up from his seat in the kitchen where he was checking messages on the answering machine. He suprised her by giving her a hug. But then to his suprise she hugged him back.

"Umm are you ready to go?"
Dave asked as he ran his hands over his gotee.
"I'm ready whenever you are."
They both climbed into Dave's truck. The ride to school was pretty silent. They listened to the radio. As they pulled into the school, Chester and Mike waved at them from infront of the gym. Dave put his arm around Kenji. He expected for her to not want him to do that, but she allowed him to do it. There was loud pounding of music coming from the gym.
"Come on, The others are already in there!"
Mike said as they desended down the gym stairs. Soon the hard techno music's beat slowed into the first slow song of the night.
"So you uhhh want to dance?"
Dave asked as he held out his hand. Kenji took it and they stood off to the side and slow danced. She clung to him like he was the only thing keeping her from falling into the sky. They turned and danced. Kenji closed her eyes as the words started in.

It made her feel like she was a little girl again and that her dad was chasing the monsters away from under her bed. She felt a single tear slip out of her eye. She missed being with her old dad. She missed the family she used to have. Dave wrapped her into a hug. Her phone buzzed. And she answered it. Dave looked on in concern as her face fell. She closed the phone up.
"Dave I have to find Joe!"
She shouted over the noise of the dance. Dave stood on his tip toes to try and find Joe. He then grabbed Kenji by the hand and led her over to where Joe and the others were standing. Kenji grabbed Joe by his collar and pulled him over where it was quiter.
"Joe my mom just died. The funeral's going to be in a week"
She said unable to hold the tears back any longer. Dave pulled her into an enormus hug while joe called his mom on the pay phone to tell her the bad news. Joe rubbed Kenji on the back to try to comfort her. Chester came to join them. He looked between dave and kenji. Dave mouthed at him what had happened. Chester the joined in the hug and told her that everything was going to be alright. soon the other guys and their girls joined in with the hug.
"You know what we're all going to go with you to the funeral."
Brad said in a deciscive sort of voice. Kenji wiped her eyes off.
"You guys dont have to do that."
"Your right, we dont, but we're going to do it anyways."
Rob said as he put his arm around casey.
"We're doing it because your our friend and friends stick together."
Chester said as he smiled the best he could.
"Chester you were crying wern't you?"
Khristina asked as she elbowed him in the ribs.
"No I just got something in the eye. I swear."
He said instantly. All of the guys laughed.
"Yeah sure chaz.

Ah, sweet memories. During an 8th Grade dance, I danced with a guy named Derek during this song...
On a sadder note, I knew a girl who had something like that happen to her as well...
Her mother died of a tumor in the brain sometime in April, I felt so awful for her...
