I think you might be missing the point of Elmo's argument. He/she isn't here to understand the hardships of being a single parent. They're just saying that it's your fault you got pregnant (pardon my ignorance if that's not true, I haven't read the entire thread).
In terms of the point that Elmo is trying to make, I agree. In most instances it is a person's case as to whom they spread their legs for, and they need to make that choice wisely.
//edit// Yes, and then there are the cases where you could be in a relationship, and then all of the sudden your partner dies, or something, and then you're left a single mother. I'm not going to plead ignorance on happenstance - there are unfortunate incidents that happen to good people
In your circumstance, though, I do congratulate you on your ability to achieve a good education. It just goes to show that the biggest mistake can still be made by a very smart person (not to say that your baby is a mistake!)
