Even the British media have questioned some arguments placed for the ban in terms of passive smoking at least for people that dont work on such premises thats why smoking is banned near bars and points of service which is fine by me but when it goes completely illegal causing smokers to have to go off into the middle of a road by which they will finnaly be outside a public point of operation to smoke is a bit much. I think it should be up to the people that own the businesses.

Well that would be a valid point but here in America we have the American's With Disablities Act of 1991 which demands public faccilities to make ammends to accomadate people. That includes people allergic to ciggeratte smoke, becuase that is technically under the legal definition a disability. I have a friend named Kattie who I didn't realize was allergic until I was at her brother's party. She kept going in the house. And I was like why do you keep going in? She was liek I'm allergic to Cigerrette smoke. Obviously over here it's either No Smoking or A split section. For the smoker's all they have to do is go outside in the front and smoke. I mean if you seriously cannot go out for 2 to three hours with out lighting up then you are not a passive smoker. If you go to a resturant for example and can't go without smoking then you definately need to quit. When you go to a club, your dancing and having a good time. Ciggerattes should be the last thing on your mind. If your at a party then I suppose smoking is a diffrent thing becuase you are not in a public facility and chances you are just chilling with some of your good friends.

When im clubbing I smoke yes its true........ why? I like to call it the cigarette munchees if you will especially when taking another drug such as alcohol which causes people to smoke more..... why? I dont know but I know people that when they drink they smoke at least twice as much whether they are craving it or not, it has something to do with it boosting ur heart rate therefor enhancing the alcohol buzz for a short period.

I like to call it the cigarette munchees ^.^

May I also add its habbit people get used to smoking after dinner or something or fill indifferent when not smoking when drinking, yes its not a good thing but to ask such questions as above u have to have 1st hand knowledge. Have u got something like a morning like ritual where u MUST look in the mirror before you leave or u feel uneasy or anything like that such as eating food in certain order u may not be aware of these lil habbits but its the same deal as that.

---Edit--- Dance floor smoking should be stopped cause I know people dont like getting burned :)

Well smokers shouldn't be allowed to smoke "anywhere" In restuarants and such its quite disgusting, but It shouldn't be prohibited all together. Thats too extreme. Designated areas seem to work, so yeah.

Business owners should be allowed to decide for themselves weather or not to ban smoking.

Personally, I find smoking disgusting...but it is legal! Its no more disgusting then drinking alchohal. If people want to smoke, it is thier own choice, and I think that it is wrong that people are saying that smoking should be banned, because have rights just like everyone else. Period.

I think that the majority of the smoking population don't know how much it affects non smokers and with this ignorance brings unpolite behavior. I don't see why smoking should be completely banned, but there should be a common system of thoughtfulness that involves asking the people around them if they mind them smoking. In reality, yes, most people would say no, and where does that get them? Nowhere I suppose, but in certain situations, it would be appropriate. such as crowded outside areas, patios, parties, you get the idea.

Another novel idea involves disposing the cigarette butts in a proper receptical; the earth is not a ******* trashcan. Of course this doesn't limit butts, but that's a different story.

I think the main obstacles that need to be tackled, are education and consideration towards others.

Anyone that thinks banning smoking all together are wrong as Alcohol and Cannabis have both proven Pohobition doesnt work.

I myself said Yes. I myself do not smoke, but I think completly banning it in public is over-aggresive. Now you should never smoke, but if you do, people usually do it in their own homes or in resturants. Of course its banned in New York City to smoke in bars, but thats an exception. A complete ban wouldn't work. They way it's going now is fine by me.

I dont actually smoke so I dont really care. But I know too many ppl who do, and when they have to go outside a shopping centre or something to smoke its quite annoying.

It's a guilty pleassure if u will and is more common amongst people with a hetic life style or alot of free time. For those with a hetic schedule it helps them relax (the active chemichal nicotiene makes u feel more calm) as for people that have alot of spare time it gives them something to do aswell as a degree of a buzz, the later is more common amongst younger people such as myself who went to college a smoker but smoked more because of the dull void between classes.

Some other reassons include going down to peer preassure which is again more common with younger people its also a spark of rebellion so some people feel the need to smoke in order to act out. People that will do anything to loose weight also take on board smoking because it boosts metabolism, others do it at strictly parties only which is the least serious of all the above as smoking occasionly is VERY unlikely to damage your health and the only reasson its as damaging as it is really is its addictive nature a single cigarette wont do much harm at all, these people smoke at such occasions because of the relaxed nature and the fact it boosts any existing alcohol buzz as well as the nicotiene hit being very strong and imposes a lasting buzz as their tolerance is low, this is another reasson why people continue smoking though as they expect the same buzz which u simply dont get after a couple packs due to your tolerance being so high.

Now excuse me whilst I have a cigarette, this writing has made me stressed.

Essentially u can see many of the reassons are stupid not to mention the are still alot of people that started from the early 20th Century when such health warnings where un heard of and smoking was actually considerd good for the throat and lungs. Also nicotiene is an extremely hard drug to quit.

Thats why people smoke

People should be able to do what they want in public. As long as they're not blowing their smoke in your face, it's nothing worse than the pollution our lungs usually take in, anyway.

Smokes dont smoke everywhere or the world would be one big gray smoke ball. mk? They can't smoke in restuarants, in buildings, or in stores so get over it. if you dont like that fact that someone is smoking around you then move. dont make a big deal out of it.

if you smoke then you smoke. I think it's stupid that they made it illegal to smoke in restuarants. I can understand stores & buildings, but restuarants... come on. put tables outside or make a porch and put a sign that says "Smoker Land" over it. Ok!? get over that fact that someone is smoking around you. deal with it. Smoking is a habit and it's hard to get over. blah blah blah. I'm done.

By the way, [yes i lied I'm not done]... Smoking is a choice just like everything else. People choose to smoke just like they choose to have abortions or choose to cut themselves or choose to break up with someone. Its their choice get over it.

I'm 19 & a smoker. You want to smoke fine. Even when I wasn't a smoker, I didn't infringe on their right to do so. We've given you areas for the most part, we gave you movie theaters & airplanes (both we legal to smoke in at one point but we understand poor ventilation among the other reasons), etc. If my smoking bothers you & you ask me to put it out I will. Again, I'm 19. It's legal for me to smoke. It's illegal for me to sit at a bar. I'm not going outside in the dead of winter with snow up to my kneecaps & get sick just because I can't go inside (& us smokers do have a lower immune system). Just keep it the way it is. It's worked for years. I started smoking b/c it was my choice & now I'm addicted. I have enough consequences to worry about. And with all those whipper snappers running a muck through a restaraunt, I not only need one, I think I deserve it for not smacking them upside the head & not cussing out the parents. Places like restaraunts have good ventilations among dividing us & them. There is no reason for a ban. And if it's the waitresses that are complaining, schedules can be fixed. If they have a problem with it, take it to the boss & be permanently put in the non-smoking section. Things can be fixed without a ban.

the mall here in Vero has banned any smoking from 150 feet of the intrance. NO ONE it allowed to smoke in that area. Even elderly people have to walk out to their cars or walk out 150 feet just to smoke. How rediculous is that! I say that if you dont like then shove it.
