I'm directing this to those of you who use this word; does anyone of you actually know where the word soccer comes from?

I'm not asking cause I need to know, cause I already do. I'm askin if you guys do, so no wikiing and no dictionaries, nothing. just, do you know it or not?

lol why are you asking us this? anyways, NO. I have no idea where this word comes from. All I know is that it's the best sport around (As well as the most popular).

no i dont care where soccer came from or what it means. to me its football, but eh

yer crunch game tonight against the gunners, this is gona be a GOOD game, too teams basically fully fit with a rivalry that would make many brothers and sisters cry.

for arguments sake, iv been having a discussion as to who is currently the best football manager in the world. iv been spruiking sir alex ferguson...not JUST because im a United fan, but you look at what he has done:

*the most succesful manager of an English/British club in history

*one of the longest serving coaches of the modern era(20 straight years at united!) and consider that many coaches rarely see it past their first season let alone 20 and thas one helluva feat

*he won the treble,no british ckub has EVER done that, and probably wont ever be repeated again.

*a consistent strike rate of NEARLY 60% winning rate.

*strong youth policy that rarely relies on opening the coffers to "buy" a league title

*still has the passion to stay at ONE club, win everything at this ONE club, and continue to be motivated enough to continual the charge(many thought he was going to retire straight after the treble)

*a penchant eye for good talent, especially good youngsters, and players who you think are too old yet continue to shine(Cantona and Larrson etc)

*a strong willed man, even in his late 60s, to put the club and team before any one player or himself

* and i suppose, the biggest one, taking an underperforming manchester united team in the late 80s,being destroyed by a liverpool side boasting the riches that would have made chelsea cringe, facing relegation, dragging them from the fire and transforming them into a real footballing powerhouse.

to me there is only one real rival at this point in time and his name is Guus "Aussie Guus" Hiddink, consideirng his work at PSV,and countries such as S.Korea and Australia. if anyone has any challengers to sir alex(MODERN coaches), please put em forward, id like to hear what you guys have, dont this isnt a bag-a-thon, just comparing coaches of the modern era

bleh, I was just wondering. cause it's a weird looking word

anyway, Guus is a magnificent coach. the things he's done...unbelievable.

I mean, without him, south-korea and aus wouldn't have gone far in the last two world cups, for example.

there's a lot of great coaches out there, who've done magic with subpar squads, too bad I can't remember their names right now lol

hopefully Guus can come back to australia in the near future... i can imagine him nurturing young stars like patafta, vidosic, sarkies etc into real champions and put australia right up there with the best.

i dont see many challengers to sir alexs record, but certainly by no means is sir alex the best, im just looking for a coach that can come close to matching what sir alex has done. Arsene Wenger,Fabio Capello,Felipe Scolari are a few i can think of

Furious Brazilian players attacked the referee after being held to a 2-2 draw by Chile in the South American under-20 championship.

Referee Alberto Duarte of Colombia fell to the ground holding his red card in his hand after being pushed by a Brazilian player following his decision to award Chile two penalties in the closing minutes of Sunday's game.

Brazilian players continued to remonstrate furiously with the official when he got up and police had to come on to the field to protect him.

At least 20 heavily armed riot police then escorted the official off the field while Brazilian officials tried to calm their players.

Chile converted both penalties, the second with the last kick of the game in the sixth minute of injury-time.

The match itself produced three red cards and at least two more appeared to be shown afterwards, though it was not clear who received them.

Chile had Nicolas Larrondo sent off for a late tackle in the 58th minute while Hans Martinez of Chile and Luiz Adriano of Brazil were dismissed in the 74th.

Alexandre Pato headed Brazil ahead in the 70th minute and five minutes later Arturo Vidal levelled the score from the first penalty, awarded after a Chilean player was knocked over in what Brazil said was an accidental collision.

Brazil regained the lead through Tcho one minute later but their dancing celebrations appeared to provoke their opponents.

Chile fought back and were awarded their second penalty when Fabiano kicked a Chilean player on the head with a reckless lunge. Vidal converted again to set off wild celebrations among his teammates.

The tournament is a qualifier for both the World under-20 championships to be held this year in Canada and next year's Olympic Games in China. The top two sides qualify for the Olympics and Sunday's result left Brazil in danger of missing out.

Brazil have two points from two games in the six-team final stage, which is led by Uruguay with six points followed by Chile and Argentina on four each.

man utd are still 6 points clear thanks to chelsea's mind drop at anfield

anyways, when arsenal was cruising to premier league glory, the only team to beat em was man utd....so i spose it shouldnt be any different if we switch things around aye? ^^

manchester united 2-1 portsmouth

wayne rooney u beauty!!

latest man utd transfer rumors hint that hargreaves will arrive in the north hemisphere transfer period rather than now(not surprising since bayern hafta face real madrid so they need their full strength) and gareth bale too(although spurs have raced into pole with a 10million pound offer).

also look for a slew of talented youngsters returning from load spells to bolster united-Gerard Pique(real zaragoza),Guiseppie Rossi(Palermo),Johnny Evans(Sunderland) and Ben Foster(Watford),Phillip Beardsley(Aston Villa)

hows everyones clubs going atm? any transfer speculation? i love a little soccer goss here and there

>.> Today is the friendly between Mexico and USA.

Might want to look into this one people...rivalry's are always awesome.

Anyways, I believe Mexico will win. They brought all their European players to play the inagural game for the coach while USA brought only 4 players (from Europe).

I predict a 3 - 1 in favor of Mexico. Let's discuss :D
