way too weird

ok you guys know the othe two stories about the weird family with me, rav, fribby, woody and foxx, this is my story about it. this first part is just about me rav and Rob. PM me or post on her your permission for me to use u as a character *cough fribby, woody and fox cough * but here we go. its kindda going off a little on Ravs idea with the actual born family and our half sister.

"Mum where is everyone?"

A 16 yr old girl asked sleepily as she came into the living room of a fairly averaged sized house that was in a nice suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles.

"Your dad and brother are at work and your sister's visiting friends house."

Her mom, Rav, said as she gave her third child a kiss on the forehead. Mel frowned as she sat down on the plush carpet in the living room. Rav folded up the last bit of laundry while Mel searched for some saturday morning cartoons. With a momentairy glance at her mum, Mel instantly knew something was up.

"Did daddy ever come home last night? I didnt hear the garage door."

Her mom shook her head dismally. Mel and her brother would have known if Rob had come in since they shared a room over the garage.

"He had to stay at the studio last night,"

Mel sunk her head into her knees. Her father was famous and she accepted that, it didnt really matter how she felt, family always came first and she knew that Rob not being there was starting to really put a strain on the family.

"That's what he said last night, and the night before that and the night before that."

Mel muttered softly. She loved her father with all her heart but he was never around any more.

"Hun, you know its.."

"its his job I know."

Rav sighed as she lovingly patter her daughters shoulder.

"He didnt ask to be famous, he didnt ask for this hetic life. He's trying to make this the best situation possiable for you and your sibblings."

Mel sighed in defeat. She was thinking back to something her dad taught her along time ago when she had her first fight in school a couple of years after she started martial arts.

"Daddy always said that if something was important and precious to you that you should protect it with your life and do everything to keep from loosing it. Is the family even precious to him any more?"

"Dont say that!"

Rav said sternly, starteling the teenager. Mel hugged a bunny like stuffed animal close to her. it was the first stuffed animal that she had ever had, it was a totoro. His name was squishy rob, it had always been that. (if you dont know what a totoro looks like google a pic of it)

"I'm sorry. This is alot harder on me then I thought it would be with your father. Come on lets get dressed, I believe you need a new drumset since your last one is about ten years old?"

A huge smile graced Mel's face. Finally a new drumset all her own. Her last one was her fathers old hand me down.

"CAn I get a big kit like daddy has?"

Rav shook her head,

"we'll see."

"Aww mannn! thats code for ferociously unlikely."

"It means we'll see."

Mel smiled at her mom as she ran upstairs to her and her brothers room. She pulled on one of her many black matix shirts and hats, being that her dad indorsed them, he got alot of free stuff for them. It was a perk but it made sure they never had to buy clothes. Rav gave a small smile as Mel came back down stairs. Mel was already so much like her father in looks and personality, It was almost scary. At times when she would get mad at her sibblings, it could be hard do tell who was doing the yelling if rob was home.

"and if we're lucky, maybe we can stop by to see your father, bring him some lunch maybe."

That made her daughter's smile get even bigger. For a sixteen year old she was easy to please. Rav grabbed her car keys and they both got into the big SUV. Mel happily watched people when they stopped at the stoplights. It was pretty sunny in LA, it was almost never anything else. They finally pulled up to the music store after sitting through five extreamly long stoplights. The guy at the cash register gave a friendly greeting to Mel since he knew her by sight since she used to come here pretty often with her dad.

"You gettin something for your dad?"

He asked as he hurried forward to help them.

"Not today Ryan, Today I get my own drumset."

Mel said happily. Rav smiled at her daughter.

"You want the one you were looking at the last few time you were in here?"

Ryan asked helpfully. Mel nodded and pointed.

"See mum, thats the one thats like Dad's kit. its the same color and the same brand. Thats the one I want."

"ok then."

Her mom said as she took out her credit card to pay for it.

"Do you want that one or do you want us to order one new for you?"

"We'll take that one."

Ryan quickly took it apart and put all the parts saftly in a Huge box. Rav paid for it and helped load it into the back of the bulky SUV.

"Well that didnt take long, remember this is part of you birthday present."

Rav said trying to be stern but she couldnt keep a strait face around her excited daughter. Mel hugged her mom thankfully. Her stomache then gurgeled hungrily, reminding her that she was hungary and hadnt eaten breakfast.

"Mum, can we stop somewhere and get a gatorade or water?"

"What happened to the water bottle you carry around with you everywhere?"

Her mum asked with a raised eyebrow. Mel blushed deeply.

"I kindda forgot it cuz I was so excited about getting my kit today."

Mel said with a hint of embarrassment. Rav took out a dollar and handed it to her to get a water bottle out of the vending machine across the street. Mel returned to the car and took a long gulp from the bottle.

Excited! Yay! This is really, really good! Very human, and that's an admirable thing for a writer to achieve. You're creating a 'real' little world here. Nice description, nice sentiment, I like the little particulars of RL thrown in there (Matix endorsement, as all Rob fans know) and so forth. I'm so stoked you've actually penned this I'm feeling all overcome with emotion (for real emotion). I like the way you rationalised all points of view in this - how Rob's absence is hurting everyone else around him, but that it was something he'd never asked for, so it gives you a sense of empathy even if he is the one in essence doing wrong. ****** well done.

And as for my part in it?

*shrugs*

You know I'm just plain proud. :D

*hugs*

Can't wait for more. No, really. Was a little disappointed that Woody ended hers but nothing lasts forever I suppose. This has the potential (as I'm sure mine does in some respects) to last a while, should we play our cards right, and should anyone care to read it as well. But I genuinely like your style of writing. There's little I can say nowadays to 'crtiticise' you (even constructively) so that's a good thing, really.

Anyway.

More - please. As soon as you can manage it! *teeters on edge of chair in anticipation*

Mel bounced happily up and down as she carried a bag of taco bell for her dad. Rav checked in to see which studio they were in.. this was the first time that she had been at NRG studios since she was little. Rav couldnt help but smile at her amazed daughter.

"This place was alot bigger when I was ten."

She comented as she followed her mum into the waiting area where Mike and Dave were shooting pool.

"Hello Rav, lil phi."

Mike said as he greeted the pair. Mel blushed at the mention of her old nickname. She can remember once telling her dad when she was two that she didnt want to be a drummer, she wanted to play bass just like uncle dave.

"Hey uncle mike, Uncle dave. What's up?"

She said as she greeted them with hugs.

"Just waitin for your dad to finish up a song thats all. Ooh you brought us lunch!"

Mike said in his normal jocular manor. Dave gave a low chuckle.

"Sorry uncle mike, this is daddys lunch. "

Mel said sweetly. Mike rufeled her hair.

"So rav, what are you two doing by yourselves? wheres the rest of the brood?"

Dave asked. rav rolled her eyes.

"Working and theyre staying at friends houses."

"Guess what uncle mike, I have a martial arts tournament tomorrow. I'm so excited, Master's letting me compeat with weapons this time!"

Mel said happily as she and rav sat down on the couch to wait for dave to tell Rob that they were here.

"Thats great, what weapons are you using?"

"I'm using the Kunai, they rock. I'm also doing sparring and forms too."

Mel said as mike twirled his pool stick.

"Wow, where and what time is it? I want to come and watch you."

"Watch what? Here mike!"

Chester said comming in through a door and tossing mike a thing of M&M peanuts.

"Mel's compeating in a martial arts tournament tomorrow. I'm gonna watch her compeat."

Mike explained to chaz. Mel noticed blush creep up into her moms face as chester looked at her.

"Then I want to go and watch too, it'll be a nice break from all of this hard as **** work."

Chester said. Rob finally came in through the door followed by dave. Mel jumped up and gave her dad a hug around the middle. He kissed the top of her head.

"Daddy, mum took me to get my new kit. I got one just like yours, its the one we tried out three weeks ago."

"That's great kido."

Rob said as he greeted rav with a smile.

"Dont forget you promised to be there tomorrow for her Tournament."

"I havent forgotten."

Rob said with a dismissive wave of his hand.

"Thats great lil phi."

Dave said as he gave her a pat on the shoulder. Mel smiled. It was a little confusing but, she loved her dad alot, yet uncle dave and uncle mike had been to more of her things then her dad has. Like when she had her first drumming gig, uncle dave and uncle mike were there but her dad wasnt, They were at her awards ceremonys when she made honor roll and the national honors society. That was saying something because uncle mike was a well known workaholic. Uncle Mike asked her about school and talked to her while uncle dave tried to help her out with her problems like boy problems.

"Daddy are you sure your gonna make it?"

"I promise."

He said as he gave her a kiss on the top of her head again

*ewwhew - Shivers in anticipation*

You can almost tell Rob's not going to show and you just see the dramas and disappointment that's gonna come from it, but still, it helps you to empathise with the characters more. Did with me anyway.

I actually have to say I liked this personal touch of the other band members getting in to help father each other's kids/support each other's families. That's a nice spin that I ashamedly totally missed at some point but you capture that detail well, and it kind of explains other things too (is Fox Rob's in this or Chas's? Or, is she being raised by Rob but doesn't know she's Chas's? *evil laugh* What a tangled web we weave, huh?)

Rav blushing at Chas - can totally see that. He's pretty intense.

Mel's devotion to her dad is heartfelt... but you just know that for whatever his reason's Rob's gonna screw that up and the impact that's gonna have on the rest of the family, Mel in particular here as his number one supporter, hits me in the heart already.

****... nicely done, Mel!

*bows*

You guys just keep blowing me away! I'm just... *jaw drops*

Thanks! Um... please, ma'am, may I have some more?

Rav sat uncomfortably as Mel excitedly described her plans for her Kunai form to Mike, Dave and Chester, who listened like they were actualy interested in what she was saying. Rav stood up, unable to take the uncomfortableness any longer.

"Alright, we have to go pick up sara and fox."

Rav said as she put a hand on her daughters shoulder. Mel nodded a bit dissipointed that she had to leave.

"Bye daddy."

"Bye kiddo."

Rob said as he ruffeled her hair and then gave Rav a kiss on her cheek.

"See ya baby."

Rav said to Rob who just smiled and waved them off while Rav nudged Mel through the door.

"I love it when she calls me that."

Rob said happily as he started to eat the food that his wife and daughter brought him.

"Wait a ******* minute, who the **** said it didn't refer to me?"

Chester said, making Mike and dave almost fall over and Rob choke on his taco.

"I did. Is there anything you want to tell me chaz?"

Rob asked with his usuaul frown deep and glowering, giving him a bit of an angry bull look. Chester was almost about to pee on himself.

"Nothing at all."

Chester mumbeled. Rob shrugged as he turned back to eating. Mike and Dave exchanged frowning looks, knowing exactly what was up. Everyone knew that Chester slept with Rav, everyone except Rob, that is.

"mum, are you still upset about what happened with you and uncle chester?"

Mel asked taking her mother compleatly by suprise. Rav's mouth just hung open for a minute soundlessly.

"I have no idea what your talking about hun."

"Come on, mum, everyone knows about it. Daddy really isnt Fox's dad, uncle chester is."

Rav frowned.

"How do you know that?"'

"Like I said before almost everyone knows about it but daddy."

Mel said quietly. For a few moments the car was filled with silence.

"Does Fox know?"

Mel nodded in response to her mum's question. More silence followed the awkward moment.

"I'm sorry mum."

Mel finally said. rav smiled and shook her head.

"Its not wrong if you know something. "

Rav pulled up into the driveway of another house where Mel's two sisters had stayed the night. Mel stayed in the car as Rav retrieved her daughters.

"That was a fun sleepover, why didnt you want to come?"

Sara asked Mel as she climbed into the car.

"Because I just didnt want to."

Mel said softly as she turned her head. Fox was asleep in the back seat already.

"Did you have fun?"

Rav asked Sara.

"Yeah it was so much fun, you should have seen how many sodas fox downed last night in our drinking game, I thought she was gonna explode."

Mel shook her head, mum knew nothing about fox's drinking. Mel knew for a fact that it wasnt soda. She was probably asleep with a hangover.

"Come on Mel, you like never go to any of the sleepover our friends have or go to any of their parties."

Sara said trying to belabor the point.

"I get what your saying *******, now leave me alone."

"Dont call me a *******, carpetmuncher."

"Girls!"

Rav said breaking up their fighting. The twins shot each other an icy glare as they pulled up into the driveway of their house. Mel then helped her mum carry in the heavy box that the drum kit was in. It took them a while to get it upstairs into her room that she shared with her brother. Sara was trying to get her sister up from the hang over she apparently had. Sara couldnt help but frown, Mel was such a killjoy. Sure someitmes the partys were wild and there was alot of drinking and people making out, but Mel never did anything without daddy dearest's consent. Sara thought bitterly as she stepped into a a cold shower. She didnt see the point of Mel trying to suck up to dad like she always did, he was never home any ways. It was stupid.

Rav sighed as she sat down in the living room of a quiet house. for once, there was no bickering or fighting, everything was silent with the exception of the occaisonal curse that came from Mel and fribby's room where Mel was trying to put together the drumset. She smirked as she saw out of the corner of her eye the pictures of her children and their father. It made her sad to think back on the memories but it also made her smile when she remembered how proud Rob was when they were born. Now they each played out their parts in this extreamly strange family, Fribby was the one trying to be the man of the house while Mel tried to bring home awards and do really well so maybe they would stop arguing when Rob was home they wouldnt fight as much, Sara and Fox were the rebellious girls in the family. It was an unusual family.

 *eek*

*jaw drops*

Well... *ahem* I have to admit, I SO totally didn't see that one coming with Rav and Chester! *laughs to self for a good few minutes then wipes eyes* Ah, the memories. But aside from that not only is this written well but it's suspensefull too. I'm like nervous in my stomach to think of the trouble these guys are headed for, kind of like watching a train coming towards your car but you can't get out of it's way...

Hmm.

Strange analogy but significant none the less.

Anyway, so ****** well done. Like I said, my jaw literally dropped open when I read this. The part about Rav reminiscing at the photos and the comments on the fighting tugs at the heart-strings too. You can feel the heart of the family beating strong, as weird and mixed up as you say it is, but really I see it like another ordinary family - there's nothing discombobulated about these guys. Anyway, as always I loved it so much I can't wait for more.

Like Woody's, I've been saving this as you update so I can read it at my leisure offline because I love it that much and also to get my unmotivated **** into gear when I'm feeling lazy and uninspired. Exceptional job!

Thanks!

*hugs*

alright I finally got onto a computer that has a working floppy disk drive. so here is and here is where our very own stenners aka matt makes his enterance

The whole family woke up extra early. Rav let her son, Fribby, sleep in since he got home from work extreamly late. Mel was decked out in her uniform and had her kunai tucked saftly in the holder on her leg. Sara and Fox came from their room sleepily but unwillingly.

"Why do we have to be up so early? Why do we have to go to the stupid tournaments?"

Fox whinned. Rav gave her a stern look.

"We have to be there early because the tournament starts at nine o'clock and we have to register Mel. And you have to be there because we need to support this family."

Sara closed her mouth even though she wanted to day something. Mel silently ate her breakfast and then distanced herself from the family as almost as if she was in a meditation trance. Rav hearded everyone into the car where they drove off to the convention center where the tournament was being held. Rav imediatly spotted Mike and Dave in the crowd that was gathered at the enterance. She parked and got everyone out. Mel was pale and looked like she was about to puke. Mike and dave gave her a hug as she came up to them.

"You alright?"

Dave asked her. She nodded silently looking around.

"Is my daddy here yet?"

Mike shrugged his shoulders.

"I havent seen him. That dosent mean he wont show."

Mike said, hoping that for once he was right.

"Dont get your hopes up...."

Sara muttered under her breath. Rav gave her a sharp look. Mel smiled as she saw one of her friends from the school, Matt.

"Hey Matt, is master here yet?"

Matt shook his head.

"Yeah, he's inside already. so far its just you and me here from the school. You got the kunai?"

She nodded as she looked matt up and down. He wasnt wearing the special uniform that she had to wear. He was just dressed in a normal gi. Sara and fox pulled her away from matt and back towards mike and dave and their mom.

"mum matt says its just me and him compeating. "

Rav smiled and gave her daughter a hug.

"I got you all signed in. Weapons start first in ring six. Then after that in ring seven you'll have your first tournament fight. Do good, dont get hurt."

Rav said as she kissed her daughters head. Mike and Dave hugged her as well. Mike handed her mask that she had to wear since she studied the ninja art of tracking. She hated it cuz it looked like a bunny mask. Not that bunnies wernt cute, but what was the point of using it as a mask? She rolled her eyes as she put the mask on. Rav pulled out her camera and started taking pictures of her.

"mum!"

she groaned. they had to go through this everytime there was a tournament.

"Come on rav, we have to go on in so we can get good seats. Dave, we'll save you a seat."

Mike said ushering them in. Dave stayed behind with Mel.

"Are you excited? Nervous?"

"Both..."

Mel said quietly as people passed all around them. Dave put his hands on her shoulders.

"Just remember let them do all the horsein around. Stay calm and focus on what your doing. the last time you used the needles, you had all the finesse of a butcher in your points. Focus on what you do. Stay smart. And dont forget to have fun, you and matt are the best two here hands down. I know you'll win."

Dave said with a smile. mel cast a dissapointed look downward, dave couldnt see it because of the mask. Her dad used to give her a similar speech when she was little.

"Alright, go find matt and your teacher and go streatch out."

Dave smiled again and gave her a hug. She then joined up with matt and started streatching out.

Awww... I have to say that reading this story and Woody's that it's not hard to slip into that 'Mommy mentality' that a'll seemed to have captured downpat. I do at times feel like the mother here, even though I get carried away quite often, (but what else is new?). A nice observation. That's probably why I've really gotten into them because the sentiment is somewhat close to my heart... that and I'm in it, along with many of my closest LPF pals, so y'know, a little ego stroking never goes out of style, I think. *chuckles*

Anyway, reading this I'll admit gets me angry. I'm angry at Rob the way a mother should be given this current situation. Unless it's a life and death matter I don't see what anything he has to do should come before one's children, but given that we all know the whole band are pretty much workaholics I could see this as a real possibility, (Wonder how Lindsay and Anna etc do it in RL). Anyway, I feel bad for Mel for the fact she's about to face one of the biggest days of her young life and as usual, where's her father? Plus, the fact that Sarah's bitter for being ignored and Vi's burning himself out with his extra obligations, and Fox is drinking herself silly to cope with it all... I can so see this (and Woody's, in fact, all three) as tv movies or something. Bet that would really impress the LP members... *cackles evilly*

Well, anyway, just... bittersweet. I love it, but I'm feeling the emotions (as one should) and I just wanna reach through the pages and throttle the living sh*t out of my so called husband. Good thing I can't. He's likely to knock me off my feet I'm thinking. *groan* Men!

But LOVING it, as always. Think you get the gist of what I've been trying to say here as I dribble on... hopefully so anyways... beautiful. Need more, whenever you can manage it, please. Thanks!

"Where's your dad at?"

Matt asked as she sat down on the floor with him streatching out.

"He isnt here yet."

"Do you think hes gonna make it?"

Matt asked again as he twirled his sci's in figure eights.

"Honestly, no."

Mel said flatly as her master joined up with them. Her master was an older man in his seventies but he moved like a guy half his age.

"I'm glad to see you two are here. Matt, where is your mask?"

Matt groaned as he adjusted his headband.

"But master, it looks so rediculous. I mean we're the only two here with them."

Mel knocked matt on the back of the head.

"Its tradition."

She said with a laugh. Their master laughed with her.

"She's right. Tradition is something essential for learning the correct way of the ninja."

Matt grumbeled as he waved to his parents in the stands.

Fribby waved at rav as he tried to push his way towards them. He smiled as he saw Dave and Mike. He knew that they would be there since they were always there for them. When his dad didnt come to any of his awards ceremonies for school, he could always count on Mike and Dave to be there for him. He sat down beside his mum. He looked over to see Fox asleep, curled up in her uncomfortable chair.

"Have fun at work last night?"

Rav asked her son as she lovingly patted his hair.

"It was ok, Manager Ueda is acting like he has a stick up his *** or something, he had me scrubbing the floors back in the seafood area again."

Rav scowled at the use of his language.

"Again? that's the sixth time this week."

Sara piped in, trying to get her brother to notice her. He smiled warily.

"Yeah, seventh if you include the puking incident on monday. Is dad here yet?"

Sara shook her head silently. Fribby bit his bottom lip. Mel would die if Dad wasnt there. This was the national qulifying tournament. If Mel did well on this, she would go to nationals. He sighed as the lights centered down on the middle fighting ring that was set up.

"Starting in Ring six is the weapons."

A voics shouted over the intercom. Rav started filming stuff with the video camera as she handed Fribby the digital camera to take pictures.

Mel took in a deep breath as Matt went first. She recounted her Kunai, making sure she had the twelve as she watched matt rip through the targets like tissue paper. Her heart was pounding as she looked out in the crowd, first spotting dave and mike and then the rest of her family. She was scared beyond belief, but it gave her a rush. She started shaking nervously as Matt went into the seccond part of his weapons, hand to hand combat with an official with his shuriken. Mel closed her eyes as she started to focus. Eight targets, eight vital spots. She thought over and over again in her head. She felt a tap on her shoulder as she began to sweat beneath the mask. It was Matt. She nodded and stood up. She faced the judges and bowed. she then went through the same thing that her master taught her.

"judges!"

Her voice echoed in the silent arena.

"My name Melissa Bourdon from The Hidden Mist school of Kirigakure. My style is ninjitsu and my weapons are Kunai! May I begin?"

The judges nodded as she returned to her ready position with her hands at her chest forming the sign of the tiger. The eight targets flew up and she snatched her kunai from her sheaths. Eight targets, eight vital spots. one, throat. She counted off as she struck the first target by slitting the target's throat. she then quickly turned to the next one. two, spinal column. she then move fast behind it and drove the kunai where the spine would have been. Three, lungs. She threw the kunai with such force the taget swung back and forth where the lungs would have been. four, liver. She was half way done with the third part as she thrusted the kunai in. five, Kidneys. She thrusted in again on her new target. Spinning around she launched another kunai. six, the jugular veins. the kunai lodged its self in another vital spot with force and accuracy. seven, the subclavian artery. She threw another kunai at the fresh target. now it was the last one. eighth target, heart. she forced the kunai strait through where the heart would have been and right through the back. she smiled as she landed back in her original position with her hands in the tiger sign. Then the seccond part began. this time she was fighting an official who used needles. She smiled, needles were her favorite wepons next to the kunai and she knew them very well. They bowed and then rushed at eachother with enough force to be mistaken for two trains on a head on collision. she blocked the moves with ease. suddenly she had her hand stuck blocking a move with one of the guys hand leaving her with only one hand to block more attacks. She then brought it up into a focus. the guy hurled needles at her and she jumped strait in teh air. she then flung three consecutive kunais making the guy jump back and suddenly he found himself with a kunai to his neck. One of the judges called stop. they consulted for a moment before showing her score. Mel's heart almost stopped when she saw her score. it was a 99.8! She beat out Matt's 87.4. Her eyes scanned the crowd through her mask. Fribby was cheering wildly and fox was asleep while rav, mike and dave were whooping. Now Mel was greatful to be wearing the mask now. Rav would be playing Fribby's tape for the rest of the week just for the sheer embarrassment of it. Master gave her a hearty slap on the back.

"You did well. you were a little bit too forcefull on your last strike target but other then that you were good."

She nodded as she met up with her family. Dave and Mike gave her hugs and Fribby handed her a waterbottle. She took the mask off and took a long drink from it.

"Daddy still isnt here is he?"

Rav shook her head. Mel's eyes almost started filling with tears but she swallowed more water and wiped off her forehead with a towel that Mike handed her. She had to be strong. Dave pulled her aside from the rest of the loudness and the crowd.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm fine."

She said looking away. Dave put both his hands on her shoulders.

"No your not, you're upset about Rob not being here. This is understandable. Its a big day for you. He may not be here, but Mike and I are. Chester's here somewhere and so are Joe and Brad. Just like we'll be there for you at your talent show two weeks from now."

He pulled her into a hug as she started crying.

"Master taught us the rules. there were a hundered of them and when he would give us a test, I wrote them out with pride. rule number 25 says that a ninja cant show emotion to their enemies under any circumstance. But I really wanted him to be here."

She said. Dave continued to hug her.

"I'm sure he just got caught up or something. I know he wants to be here."

Dave said softly. Mel shook her head.

"Thats always his excuse."

She said wiping her eyes with the towel. Dave gave her a sympathizing smile. a part of him wanted rob to be here too, the other part was ****** that rob didnt show up again.

"Dont worry about it, Hey you did really well. I'm proud of you."

Dave said with a smile.

"I got a 99.8. it wasnt perfect. "

Dave made a grimace. She was just like rob. Stubborn and always tried to atain perfection in what she did. Dave also noticed she was this way when she played drums. Her attention to detail was amazing and she was tight when she played, she rarely made a mistake.

"But it was **** near perfection. no one else is as good as you are."

There was a call on the intercom about meeting in ring seven for the begening of the fighting matches.

"well, you got to get going. I believe you have some major *** to kick."

Mel nodded sadly as she put the mask back on. She walked over and sat down by Matt again.

"was that your dad?"

"No it was one of my dad's friends."

She told him as they started pairing up people for the first few matches. Matt wasnt going to participate in the sparring compitition. He wished her good luck as she sighed under her mask

Rav couldnt have been prouder of her daughter as she lifted up two first place trophies and had two first place medals around her neck. She snapped almost two rolls of film taking pictures. Fribby smiled at his little sister and the band members clapped and hooted as she came down from the podium. She gave her uncles hugs as she left with her mom and sisters for home late that afternoon. There was a dark look passed around the car as they saw their dad's SUV parked in the driveway. Rav pursed her lips together as they all hearded into the house. Mel went strait up the stairs before being stopped by her dad.

"Hey, how was your day?"

She looked at her dad through the mask and said nothing but continued past him and into her and fribbys room. He raised a quizzical eyebrow as he came down stairs and saw fribby flop down on the couch.

"What's with your sister?"

"Oh I dunno, maybe today was the biggest tournament of her life and you failed to show up again?"

Fribby muttered as he occupied himself with doing some editing of the video he shot today at the tournament. Rob shook his head and entered in the kitchen where Rav placed Mel's two huge trophies on the floor and her two medals on the table.

"You missed it again. Your daughter won another tournament with near perfection."

Rav said coldly as she started pulling stuff out of the cabinets to make dinner with.

"What was her final score?"

Rob asked softly.

"total score was a 99. But its not like you care."

Sara said stiffly from the other side of the kitchen. Rob frowned at his oldest daughter.

"Watch it."

He said sternly. Sara gave him a look of pure spite as she turned her heel out of the kitchen. Rav drew herself up and turned towards her much taller husband.

"You owe Mel an appology. Dave told me that she started crying in the middle of the tournament because you wernt there. This ment so much to her."

Rav said icily as rob didnt seem that intemidated by his much shorter wife.

"I dont owe anyone an explination, especaily a child."

"When will you see it? Melissa is no longer that five year old girl sitting on your lap Robert. She is sixteen years old, she is a young woman and she was counting on you to be there. You were never at any of her other things and I bet you've even forgotten that she has a talent show in two weeks that her bands playing in. You dont even know about the young man she's curently seeing. She loves you rob! She looks up to you and you are her hero. She is the only person who is dedicated to you no matter what happens. She almost killed fox because she said something bad about you."

Rob rolled his eyes at his wife.

"Well its not like I have a choice."

"She's becomming more like you every day. Why dont you bother to show affection towards her once and a while? She wants your approval more then anything in the world."

Fribby took that as his cue to leave the open area and head into the game room to edit the footage.

"if you dont go in there and talk to her, so help me *** I will headbutt you in the stomache which I am in a perfect hight to do so!"

Rob turned around defeated. He knew exacly how strong rav was when she was mad and his stomache still ached from the memory. Rob slowly climbed the stairs to Mel's room. He cracked the door open slightly as he peaked in on her lying on her bed still in the uniform and mask hugging her squishy rob to her chest crying. Rob immedaitly felt bad.

"Mel? May I come in?"

"It dosent matter."

She said keeping her back to him. Rob came in and sat down on the bed beside her.

"A 99? that is impressive."

Rob said slowly trying to compeat with the loud music comming from the other side of the wall that was Fox and saras room.

"It wasnt perfect."

Mel mumbeled into her stuffed animals back.

"I didnt expect you to be perfect in martial arts. Everyone has to mess up some time, even me."

Rob said. Mel couldnt believe what was comming from her dad's mouth.

"But daddy, your always perfect when you play. I've never heard you mess up."

"Trust me it happens all the time. I notice even when im just a little bit off. The only time I expect you to be perfect is when you play any of the linkin park songs."

Rob said with a slight grin that made Mel stop crying. She hiccuped.

"I know I missed your tournament again, but I promise you that I'll make it up to you by being at your preformance in two weeks if it kills me."

"But you promised youd be at this one and you still didnt make it."

Mel protested. Rob held out his pinky.

"I pinky swear."

Mel smiled half way and grabed her dads pinky in hers.

"Now your mom told me you were currently seeing some young man.... maybe you can tell me about him over dinner. Just us two. But before anything, take of the bunny mask."

Rob said with a chuckle.

Omg  *jaw hits lap*

This is by far the best I have read in quite a while. The sheer emotion of this story is just like awe-inspiring. I feel bad because I can't put into words just how much these updates entertained and effected me. It's so very real... (not in the literal sense, but it could almost be) I could see it all developing like a movie before my eyes the way you have written it. It's humble, it's sweet, it's heartfelt. The joke about Ravyn headbutting Rob in the stomach made me laugh and blush at the same time (for reference, I think I can headbut him squarely in the upperchest/sternum, but who's really sure? *laughs* Not like I'll ever get the chance to have my head anywhere near his chest let alone to headbut him! ). But anyway; Nice fluid description of the karate moves for those of us with limited knowledge and the human face of despair we see developing with Mel the character, who is so much like her father it's both a blessing and a curse I think.

The image of her crying against Dave at the tournament made me misty, just like the father-daughter pinky-promise thing - and I loved the tension mounting when they got home from it to see Rob's car in the drive. *slack-jawed grin* Mel's quip about not being perfect enough...? Very believable. Makes me wanna just reach in through the pages and hug her myself, poor lass.

But I don't know why - have you seen the movie Donnie Darko? When Rob said in the last part for Mel to take off her mask the first thing I thought of was Frank; the character wearing the Bunny mask in that movie. Creepy. *laughs*

Anyway... brilliant. By far the best I've known you to write since I've come to know you. *drops to knees and bows reverently* You totally kick ***. Well done!

Um... more?
