The ride home for Rav, sara, fox and Fribby was pretty silent. Sara was in silent tears as she missed her twin. It would feel weird for fribby to go into their room that night knowing that she wasnt there. Rav snapped at them telling them to go to bed once they got to the house. Fribby clambered into his pajamas as he stared at the empty bed across the room. There was a soft knock on his door. He opened it and Sara and Fox slipped into the room.
"Fribby is mel gonna be gone forever?"
Fox asked in a child like voice. Fribby wrapped his sisters up in a hug.
"I dont know when she's comming back. we'll see her at school tomorrow."
He said trying to be comforting. He swallowed hard trying to keep from crying. This was stupid, it was tearing his family apart. Fribby knew that if given a choice, Mel would pick their dad over mum any day.
"I want them both back."
Sara said as they all curled into Fribby's bed.
"Me too sara me too."
The house was earily quiet at five in the morning. Fribby was up out of habit. He trecked across the living room into the kitchen to see his mom sitting at the table with red eyes, all puffed up from cryin. His first reaction was that she was upset about something, but then on closer inspection, she seemed sick.
"Mom are you alright?"
Rav shook her head and fribby sat down with her at the table.
"I'm worried about Mel."
Fribby gave his mom a hug.
"She's fine. I know she is. I'll see her at school today."
Rav hiccuped and tried to wipe her eyes.
"Talk to her. She listenes to you."
Rav said as she got up and headed upstairs. Fribby was left alone in the kitchen.
Fribby got out of the car as the three of them headed towards the two story building. Fribby passed by Jimmy who had a quizical look on his face. Matt was the same way when Sara just burst into tears while Hugging him. Mel didnt show up for Math class in third period, she wasnt there for lunch or her favorite class, rock III. Sara and Fribby sat in the library during their sixth period break. Jimmy came over with a worried look on his face.
"Fribby, where's Mel?"
Fribby shrugged and muttered something about not knowing.
"St Jimmy, I'm not sure. Our parents had another argument and Mel left with our dad."
Jimmy pulled up a chair that normally would have been Mel's spot.
"I'm worried."
He said as he laid his head down in his arms.
"Join the club we have jackets."
Fribby said with a pathetic ditch attempt at humor. Fribby dreaded telling Mum that Mel wasnt at school. As the bell rang, the trio departed going their seperate ways. Instead of heading to his class in the west wing, Fribby turned to the parking lot and went to sit in the truck. He laid in the bed for close to an hour before his phone went off.
"Hello?"
"Fribby."
"*** Mel I'm so worried about you. Where the **** are you, why arent you at school?"
"Daddy and I are staying with uncle dave untill daddy finds a place for us."
"Please dont break this family up Mel."
Fribby pleaded with his sister.
"Its a bit late for that, mum's already done a bang up job of that."
"Well its not like dad did anything to help."
"Dont ******* blame him Fribby. He didnt ask for this ****."
"Oh so your willing to stick up for someone who is almost never there for you but you disregard the rest of us who have been there since day one?"
"Like your any better, your always trying to play the father figure well guess what, your only my brother, you will never be my dad."
Her words stung like a white hot knife in him.
"What ever. Do what ever the **** you want, But you better call mum. Shes worried sick about you."
"Whatever *******."
The phone conversation ended on that note. Fribby angrily kicked the side of the truck bed. All he acomplished with this was a shooting pain in his foot. Mel was the last person he wanted to get into a fight with.
Sara felt as if there was an empty pit in her stomache. A sinking feeling that she was about to drop off the big hill of a roller coaster, for the rest of the afternoon, the drop never came. the ride home from school was silent.
