success now a days....1 million and ur heralded as the newest superstars. *shrugs* honestly, lp made it all the way to nearly 20 million for HT, yet alot of people are still knocking them. we got new albums these days barely kicking it past 1 million(PATD 1.3 mill-ish,mcr<1 mill) and theyre superstars -_-"

Selling a lot of albums doesn't necessarily make you good it just means you're popular. They simply just came along at the right time and appealed to the mainstream audience and were very successful. Mass MTV promotion helps a lot there too. Also Hybrid Theory and Meteoraa are old albums at least by todays standards. It's what 2007 and Meteora was released in 2003. Come on. Honestly I don't know how bands even say relevant when they don't release any proper albums for so long. You'd think people would have forgotten about them.

-The bolded statement is so true and I find it funny we have people in "Other Artists" category that have posts bashing mainstream bands LP was a mainstream band.

-In the red highlight statment, you should also point out that Hybrid Theory and Meteora would not sell even close to what they did when they were released. Even if downloading wasn't as big as it is today.

I would still buy both albums...my self personally

Well I'm guility of that too. See the problem I have with Mainstream Rock (Nu Metal, Pop Punk) etc is that people who only listen to mainstream rock, without doing any real digging underground for other bands, think that's all Rock music is sounds like and will be even more inclined to shun it, because Nu Metal isn't the best represention of metal likewise with Pop Punk not accurately representing Punk. That's why the metal fans and hardcore punk fans are always dissing mainstream bands. Hence the pejorative Mallcore/Mallpunk labeling. Linkin Park honestly is one of the few mainstream rock bands that I actually like. I tend to stay away from mainstream stuff anyway as most of it is from what I can see is **** anyway.

It's like Linkin Park seemed a lot cooler back when they released Hybrid Theory. They were all new and refreshing and the whole Nu Metal movement was at it's pinnacle. Then when Meteora came out the movement was on it's way down which may have effected the album sales as well. Also if I remember right Hybrid Theory made up a large chunk of the combined Worldwide album sales of Hybrid Theory and Meteora. Also I think downloading affects all album sales. Personally I prefer to have the albums. But I can't afford to buy the albums of all the bands I like. Plus I like to test bands out before I actually just buy the album.

time doesnt necesarily play a huge roll is u have LOYAL fans. which, i sense, a few seem to be slipping.

guns and roses are set to release an album, and ALOT of mass hysteria is starting to begin. mind u GnR havnt actually released anything since...*** knows when and this album is slated as an absolute mind blower.

plus nowadays, they do have online counting, as in if you download,it will count. the ARIAs had an award for most downloaded artist. coz i dont think many ppl these days like to buys cds, its an eventuality that we download everything. plus mike has always supported downloading, he sees it as a MAJOR source of sharing music to the fans.

I dont think LP ever gets old..I still listen to their songs everyday and enjoy it...Im a loyal fan..But I'm nervous that the new LP album..even though I think it'll be great and all the LP fans will like it...i dunno if it'll appeal to all the other people that aren't so hardcore LP fans..but i dont really care bout them..i love LP

Well Gun N Roses and Linkin Park are two different bands. Gun N Roses are a Legendary Metal band and Linkin Park is well...Linkin Park. They aren't in the same league. You really can't compare them. Of course the Metalheads are going to get itchy when a new album by them comes out. I think it's a lot easier to get lost in the mainstream really because people move on to the newest thing. Where as in a community, like the metal community, a lot of people tend to know about them and they aren't forgotten at least like mainstream bands are.

Linkin Park in my honest opinion gets old really fast probably because of the musical style and referring to their previous albums. All the songs do sound the same. After a while it becomes a bit tiresome at least to me. I don’t think it’s about being a hardcore Linkin Park fans it’s about getting a lot of people to listen to them. Of course the hardcore fans are going to buy their new album. The key is they have to appeal to the average person to become very successful in the mainstream anyway. Which is exactly what Hybrid Theory did.

Its growing so much hysteria because it was originally due out in 1999, and people wanna see Axl Rose and "His Backing Band" (which is what they should be called now since Axl is only person in orginal GnR still in GnR)

a new demo rather than qwerty would've been more awesome. imagine they hype the would've built with the people listening to that already.

alot of you have raised a few points here but all i can say is look at the bands that have been around when LP released HT - you had KoRn/Papa Roach/ Limp Bizkit etc all have released at least 4 albums in the last 6 years all have now been sort of whipped out of the nu-metal equation and have not released any material or have conformed to the EMO typegeneration IE Papa Roach first album one of the best albums ever (my opinion) and with each release they have gotten more and more like the mainstream bands you see today the new album paramour sessions it is exactly like that you hear on kerrang and stuff here is a photo to show you what i mean http://media.godashboard.com/paparoach/PR-album.gif this photo is from there new album and "NEW" look and compare it to this one from when they released infest http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/GLOP/RCK104~Papa-Roach-Posters.jpg

i really dont htink linkin park's new album will change that much but it will change as every band evloves in there music and each ban experiments and comes up with new material each time

You make some good points and I agree totally. A lot of nu metal bands around during the whole nu metal boom either haven't released that much material like Linkin Park for example. Or haven't conformed to whole pseudo-emo/pop-punk thing and are suffering for it or are undating their sound and look to go with what it popular. I think the whole nu metal movement has pretty much come to end in my opinion as no band has stayed true to it, besides KoRn, and really been able take it to the next level and keep it alive. I also agree that Linkin Park's new album won't do much to change anything.

Yeah nu-metal is dead there are only three "real" nu-metal bands still

-Limp Bizkit: stayed true to it on The Unquestionable Truth Part 1 (great CD), but then again they are basically dead right now even though like last month they were Fred Durst was supposedly recording vocals for TUTP2

-Korn: still kinda nu-metal (but there chaning slowly), and next album will probably will not look at all like nu-metal

-Linkin Park: probably will stay nu-metal, but might change a bit

I've been thinking about this for a while and I think the correct term for Nu Metal and Pop Punk should just be mallcore. I mean I think Nu Metal especially is just too confusing.

agreed

and as for who they will sound like, i always thought it would be cool if they sounded a bit more like nine inch nails but then i figured, thats not linkin park at all... dunno...

Well in my opinion mallcore would be bands like:

Linkin Park

Disturbed

KoRn

Mudayne

Papa Roach

Limp Bitzkit

Evanescence

My Chemical Romance

Lamb of ***

Slipknot

Good Charlotte

Fall Out Boy

Taking Back Sunday

I think you see where I'm going...

Basically derivative bands of Heavy Metal (Nu Metal/Metalcore) that don't fit into the extreme metal genres and are extremely popular and appeal to a mainstream audience. Pop/Punk being popified mainstream version of punk rock and doesn't really fit into that genre. So that's my take on it.
