Why should we get to know you?

There has been a lot of discussion as of late about people refusing to accept other people here, and vice versa.

Some aren't feeling as though they're getting a fair shake during debates, so I thought this thread would open up opportunities for people to set the hot topics aside and discuss themselves and their merits instead.

So this thread is for all of you to talk about....you! What's great about you? What qualities do you possess that make you worth knowing? Share some details about yourself and don't forget about the time you peed your pants in the second grade and your classmates all called you "Tinkle Bell" for the rest of the school year.

And if you want to discuss the merits of other members here, this is the time to do it. Everyone has to have some good quality about them, right?

Seriously, I am the funniest person I know. I am constantly laughing at myself, my jokes, my humor- probably moreso than others laugh at (or with) me.

I'm also extremely loyal. I fill fight tooth and nail for my friends, but I will also tell them they are wrong when they need to hear it.

I'm a geek. I collect NASCAR and Transformers. My sister says I will never get married because I have a living room full of "toys" -but I did give up wearing my spider-man pj's.

I like people, and probably trust too easily. That's likely why I fight for so long when someone betrays that trust and makes a fool of me.

I like pizza.

I like the Miami Dolphins. I dislike the Patriots.

I own my GMC truck.

I may be sorely out of touch with my own emotions, but I care deeply about the feelings of those closest to me. If they are hurting, it hurts me and I will do whatever I can to help make it better for them. If they're having a bad day, I will try to touch base with them at least once and let them know I'm thinking about them and that I care. If they need a shoulder to cry on, I bring my shoulder and some kleenex. If they need to vent, I let them air their grievances without passing judgement. If they yearn for sexual gratification, well.....that depends on how good of friends we really are.

I'm the type who wants to see everyone have a good time. I hate to see people left out in the cold and do what I can to include them in the mix.

I love to laugh and have a very playful personality.

If I think you're great, I'll make sure I tell you how great you are. I love making my friends/loved ones feel good about themselves.

If you need a last minute haircut, pedicure, backrub, eyebrow groom or *** wax....I'm your girl.

I'm generous. I may not have much, but I will share with you what I have.

I'm a great cook! I love to invite my friends over for a home cooked meal. Just bring the wine and a movie and we're set!

I WILL go to sporting events with you. And I won't even ***** about it. In fact, I like it! Vikings rule!

Need to talk at 3am because your pet goldfish died? Call me!!! I may not be coherent, but I will mumble my condolences to you while I drool on my pillow.

mercury - the quintessential Earth Mother. You can even hear it in her voice. Another caring soul who I also hope to meet one day.

Chi - I definitely need to meet Chi! I think we would be silly and irreverent the entire time we were together...and that's fun.

Anna - I want more Anna!!!! Sweet, sassy, funny, likes the same movies as me.....what's not to love?

hugo - If I could get him to take his hands off the Waffle House waitresses's *** for a few moments, I would love to engage in a live discussion about politics with hugo. I think he's **** smart and even though he eats baby polar bears, I think deep....really deep.....I mean, seriously, you have to really look deep but it's there....down he has a good heart.

Old Salt and snafu - I just love you two! You add so much warmth and integrity to this board and we really need to get together for "Friday night drinks in the shoutbox" again....lol! *** bless you both.

Bender - I like Bender! I love that he isn't shy about expressing his views even if they are sometimes controversial and his comments are always well thought out which I appreciate. Plus I'm assuming he likes "Futurama" and that's always a plus in my book.

Cloaked - I think he's sweet! I wish he would come around and interact more.

IWS - Under that cool, "just the facts, ma'am", police officer exterior there is a really caring, thoughtful guy. A very smart fellow who plays fair...I'd love to see him get some footing in the political arena because I think he has a lot of good common sense ideas.

wez - a truly kind soul. I think he's found the perfect career...helping people. And he cares about animals which I always appreciate in a friend.

eddo - so funny!!!!!! OMG, eddo has the giggle of an Angel! I love that he donates so much of his time to his church and the youth group that he's involved in. That speaks volumes about his character and shows what a giving person he is. I vow to one day force eddo to meet me (lol) and I bet it will be one of the most entertaining evenings, evah! Uff da!!!!

TJ - I think TJ adds another needed layer of personality to this board. I hope we can all get to know eachother better through discussions like this and I hope he sticks around for the long haul.

RO - I adore RO. I cannot believe how much we have in common and he absolutely makes me smile. He's an amazingly brilliant man, an achiever, a true patriot, a jack of all trades, a visionary, for some strange reason he tolerates my bullsh!t, and he really knows how to bring out the good in people. I am truly honored to call him my friend.

You'd want to get to know me because I am not like my internet alter ego Phreakwars. I'm one of those who has a mightier pen then sword. long before I became used to typing, I did alot of writing by hand in notebooks. I actually still do alot of writing in my spare time, just on a keyboard. I've written many novels (mainly fiction adventure) and have them stored in my internet locker, but I don't let people read them, maybe someday..... I have an awkward fear of people reading my fictional work, always have since about jr high. But I HAVE had one of my stories published in a book back when I was in High School.

Don't ask me to tell you the name of the book, I don't want people to really know, my English teacher is the one who kinda pushed it on me and got it published for me. Only my brother, my mom, and a few close friends and classmates know of it's existence, but here's a hint, it wasn't credited to the name I go by now, Eric Clark, it's published using the last name I used to carry. If you know about my personal life and what that used to be, you could probably find it on Amazon.

I'm one of those, that if I were to publish a book, I'd use an alternative author name so people wouldn't know it was me. It's not that I fear being criticized for my efforts, I oddly, have a fear of being praised. Writing is my secret passion, cooking is my public passion.

You'd also want to meet me to see for yourself the quite humble temperament I carry. I've never thought of myself as being better then anybody or expected to have a material lifestyle. After over 13 years of marriage, that's still kind of hard for my wife to accept, but she's learning to understand. I'm not exactly an extremely sociable friendly person, kind of a grouch at times, but on the other hand, there is not a hateful bone in my body. I don't consider grouchiness a sign of being hateful.

I think I'm acceptable of anybody because I came from a humble lifestyle. My dad worked hard all his life, and literally beat it into mine and my brothers heads that we need to work hard too, no matter what the pay is.

It kind of drives my wife nuts that I would feel comfortable living in a tiny trailer house, drive the cheapest car I can find, and ware clothing and shoes till there are holes in them and worn, not because I can't afford these things, but because I am frugal by nature.

You'd also find that the best way to get a conversation out of me face to face would be to chill out with me on my porch where I spend alot of time just enjoying nature. My wife has picked up this habit from me as well, so it's not uncommon to find her and I sitting together out on the porch engaging in our usual carefree chatter.

I enjoy the simple things in life that money doesn't buy, in my mind, having my wife, my kids, and my cat makes me feel like the richest person in the world.

Losing any of those things would bring my world crumbling down. Not having 3 of my kids at home has already done a number on me, I couldn't handle any more hurt, I'd snap and go on a shooting spree.

In actuality, I am pretty much a ***** cat. Most of the time, I am easy going and even keeled. I do have a quick and sudden temper, but as swift as the onset the swifter it subsides. Such as driving, for instance, Ali can tell you that I suddenly turn into a barking drill instructor cutting down other drivers.

I think I am pretty well informed and at full fukken awares of what is going on in this world. I mean, I can't tell you a damned thing about American Idol or what was discussed on TMZ last night, but I can tell you what I think about the Kegger at the White House or Obamacare. Yet, you will have to ask me my opinion. I won't freely give it. Unlike RO, Neal would rather keep his mouth shut to avoid arguments.

I spent some years in the Marine Corp and still feel like I am a Marine, but it doesn't rule my life. Nor do I dwell on the past in some fukken forlorn hope to relive it to do things different. **** happened... I moved on.

I am patriotic. I love my country. I march every single Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veteran's Day with the American Legion and the Vets at the BPOE (Benevolent Protectors of Elk --- not a PeTA group! A lodge--- like the Freemasons). I would willingly re-enlist and go fight overseas, but I am thirty and nine years now AND I have pins in my knees and weak eyes.

Like Bender, I am a writer. I have yet to have anything published, but I do have a portable harddrive filled with poetry, laments, dirges, and stories. I am a closet nerd and am thoroughly fascinated with high fantasy literature and swords-n-sorcery novella. Most of my work has been heavily influenced by Welsh, Norse, and Germanic mythology.

I am my own worst critic, so it is doubtful I will ever allow my works to be published. Perhaps my heirs will have them published posthumously!

I have a large extended family. My house is within five miles of both my sisters, my old man and mother, and a host of cousins and other relatives. On top of that, I have a lot of close friends nearby and many in neighboring towns. Due to this, my evenings and weekends are usually busy with them. And contrary to popular opinion, RO is a dog, but Neal doesn't date all that much.

I am from humble beginnings, being the middle child of five (An older brother and sister and younger fraternals: a sister and brother.). My father worked his *** off his entire life, my mother kept the house in order. From this, I inherited my father's work ethics and have carried them into every aspect of my life. I work --- hard, very hard --- and I wouldn't have it any other way. I am not cut out for desk jockeying! On top of that, my house is immaculate and my yard should be on the cover of Home and Garden.

I have worn many hats in my day, job-wise that is, I have been a farm hand, a lawnman, a grocery bagger, a cashier, a herder, a delivery man, a door and window installer, a bricklayer, a roofer, a soldier, among other, but right now I am a body and fender man and own my business. My brother, Johnny, handles all of my books and finances so that I can stay out of the office and run my crew.

I love music. I am particularly fond of old jam bands, like the Allman Brothers, and I love the Blues. Jazz is a close third. For this I subscribe to Sirius, because the local stations play nothing but Top 40, country, hippity-hop, and Christian Rock. I play the guitar and piano, but check this out--- in high school I marched in the band and played the trumpet! I still laugh about my feathered cavalier cap!

I'm a beer snob! I like the microbreweries and the craft beers. Admittedly some of it tastes like bitter wood, while others are surprisingly good. When I buy cheap beer, it's either Miller Light or Miller High Life.

Just a quick addition...

I am a huge football and baseball fan!

I love my Atlanta Braves and the minor league Gwinnett Braves (Whose stadium is ten and a quarter miles from my house.). I also keep up with many other teams and players, due to my involvement in an fifteen year old fantasy baseball league.

My house is also right down the street from the Atlanta Falcons training camp. The University of Georgia is right down the road, too. And my blood is boiling for some fukken football!!!

I'm not good at this, but it is refreshing to have some of you open up like that. I don't let too many people in to the real me. I'm better at the one on one opening up stuff. I don't talk to the general population in real life unless it's necessary. And I usually get labeled as stuck up for it, but whatever, that's not why I'm like this.

I have to click and really like someone (and feel like they genuinely like me, too) to really open up, be comfortable and be my real self. And then I'm usually like peas and carrots with them. I don't know if these are really reasons to get to know me, but that's just how I am.

Louis (me) is a guy with many facets.

I was raised 'country' working on a farm and raised on traditional values to include holding family to be the most important thing in my life.

I fell in love with making money at an early age, I even had my own worm selling business with a local bait shop owner where I suipplied all his worms. I have run many businesses from those days, some have not done very well, others have done extremely well and I have sold a few and retained a small percentage of ownership to get a little income from many sources.

To me it is not the money itself, but the challenge of making it, the money is the result but the challenge is creating the successful business model and finding good talent to fill in the possitions.

I believe interviewing is my real skill, I am not so good with words, but I am great at non-verbal communication and I read people from their reactions. This is what makes me so good at sales, anyone can preach "the greatness" of their product or service but you have too see how your words are being received by the person and if you can pay attention to that, you can sell just about anything to anyone.

But, I will not "rip anyone off". I departed a very good job because they were padding my clients accounts with charges because they knew my people would never question me, when I found out what was happening I informed my clients what happened and quit.........three days later one of those clients called me and offered me a job with almost twice the salary and commissions. Having morals does pay off.

I have been through two divorces, the first caused by my wife getting hooked on crack cocain and many treatment attempts that failed. It took about three years to completely erase our money. I had sold just about everything we owned and borrowed money from every possible source and still my wife was hooked after the best treatment centers tried and failed to help her. One place kept her for over a year and still the first chance she got, my wife dissapeared to go chase crack.

We had one child and he is a Marine today. Everything I had to go through was worth it to have him, I am a very proud daddy.

I got married again and we had two children together. We did pretty well but she got involved with a guy on the internet and decided life with him was more desirable so she took off but unfortunately he died in a car accident right after getting her pregnant.......she tried to come back home but once trust is broken, it can never be repaired so this has made her very bitter, we clash sometimes but I always try to remember that it is my kids that matter, not me.

I have finally found (what I believe to be) love, and it is a feeling I really never knew before meeting her, ya I know that sounds silly and even stupid to some, but that is how I feel, I hope I never lose touch with this this magic.

I love football in general but mostly I am hooked on college level, to see kids play this game from passion and love more than the money (most know they will never play in the pro's) is magical to watch. I am of course a Florida Gator fan, but I support all of Florida sports.

I play raquetball, salt water fishing, boating in any form is sooting to me, my ultimate vacation would include sailing around the world but that will have to wait for retirement I am sure, hard to take that much time off work.

I feel a great deal of pride in all my children. It seems my kids were destined to have challenges in the mom/dad relationship department but maybe in some ways that makes them stronger as long as their getting enough support and love. My oldest feeling a responsibility to his Country to serve was a very big accomplishment in my mind, so many Americans actually disrespect their Country, the constitution and the military/police that me having a kid who does not follow that trend was great. Now for the other two

Why should people get to know me?

Well, to be honest my debating on forums is my attempt to exercise my word skills because I know that is my weakest element. If any of you met me in person you would not believe I am the same person because I do way, way better when I can pick up on your non-verbal cues. I am still the same person and hold the same beliefs, but I can see when people close off and simply stop, why push it if they are not receptive?

The exception would be when I go to meet with my represenatives of my Government. I tell them exactly how I feel.

I am a good person. I serve my family and my community and my Country with the knowledge that being completely selfish is not going to get me anything good in this life but.....my drive to be successful helped to make me a responsible person.

Responsibility.

My contribution to any discussion that most never see is responsibility. While people are talking political agendas and making excuses from every conceivable direction I do not lose sight of the responsibility for each of us for what we do.....or don't do. I believe responsibility is the one thing most people are running away from the most these days.

As far as other people are concerned, I have said over and over again that I find all of you to be very great to debate and talk with. My only complaint is when things turn to personal attacks, I don't know how to change that part of things to be honest. I cannot let myself give up on the things I find to be important in life just to appease other people, that is something I do not have the capacity for.

**** TJ, that really sucks about your first wife. Kinda reminds me of my ex girl friend. We had dated a few years before I had met my wife, broke up because of a rumor she heard that was a lie, but still remained friends. Soon after she started in on the meth and I just simply wouldn't have anything to do with her, sure I cared about her and constantly tried getting her to stop, but she never would. So, life went on, and a few years later I had met my future wife (then semi girlfriend), but me and the ex were starting to talk about getting back together. But I knew she was still doing those **** drugs and so I went a different direction and ended up with the woman I have now. Fast forward about 4 years later, she, with lots of encouragement from me, finally kicked the habit. This caused alot of resentment in her between us and a bit of animosity with my wife because I visited the ex a couple times to be supportive, but it didn't matter to me if I was married or not and she was my ex... I never back down from being supportive of someone I care about. She's finally moved on and is in a decent relationship herself, but I know her thoughts are the same as mine when it comes to what things could have been. Fukking drugs can be a real relationship killer.
