I rode a "budget" 250r/500 hybrid. Vibrated your hands and feet numb and broke the motor mounts like 3 times in half a year. Ended up being more trouble than it was worth.
Fast as hell though.
Same hardware that came with the rings. Smallest sheet of Lexan they had that would fit. Its shatter resistant so won't likely break, maybe if you are slamming into large rocks.

Made out of Lexan from Home Depot. Drilled holes for most of the ring hardware. Attaches by 3 of the ring bolts. O-ring on the opposite side of the lexan to prevent losing hardware when they are off.
I've only ever seen one axle break and it was an LSR. Most of my group run G-force and haven't had problems. I think it is a rare occurance at lower levels. Just don't be casing things all the time.
