WASHINGTON -- Twenty-five years after AIDS emerged as a killer health threat, scientists are confirming that HIV really did originate in wild chimpanzees.
Scientists say trackers had to plunge through the dense jungles of Cameroon to collect hundreds of samples of ape droppings.
A University of Alabama at Birmingham researcher who led the international team said no one even had the tools to make their conclusions until they spent seven years in the lab developing new testing methods.
Beatrice Hahn said the world may not have a cure for AIDS. But she said the findings, published in the journal Science, let researchers make a "check mark" on the box for pinning down the origins.

The AIDS research done by the University of Alabama is funded by the National Institute for Health. In other words, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. To be blunt, the U.S. government.

Now, not to throw out a bunch of wild theories but there is a certain amount of people out there who believe the U.S. government created the virus in the first place. So, to be fair, I would ask for more credible research before I'd believe the chimp bit.

When looking at disease research the vast majority is done by the U.S., and the focus is on diseases that effect the U.S. (for example while TB still a major killer today, isn't really being paid attention to). Its all about money, medical research is extremely expensive and the U.S. is one of the few who can front the bill to pay for it.

Not so, Australia is at the forefront in many sectors of medical research. I believe the US of A has actually vetoed lengthy testing of our cervical cancer prevention treatment in the aim of saving lives.

I am aware of that Hugo...its not that I disbelieve what they are saying, that would be incredibly arrogant, more like something you would say, I just thought that the article was pretty short considering the major statement they were making.

I believe a disease that can adapt to other species is called Zoomorphic...
