I think I've listened to Air America (is there any irony to
liberals naming their radio network after a really, really bad Mel
Gibson flick?) maybe four times in my life, and only because one of my
friends is one of those bleeding-heart liberal types. (He's also one
of those scruffy beard, suspenders, condescending Unix geeks. I have
neither the scruffy beard or the suspenders, but I'm firmly of the
opinion that you can get a better operating system that Windows for a
nickle, which is pretty much the basis of our friendship. He leaves
the radio on.)

I think the one time I heard Ms. Rhodes she was accusing the
president of being so drugged up all the time that he had an injection
to go to bed, and another to wake up. The quote that stuck in my mind
was, "George Bush is just a robot. They turn the president on in the
morning, and turn him off at night. They just do it with a needle."

It was such a fascinating and dirty little story, I tried to
find corroboration. I couldn't. Not a word of it anywhere. Nobody
else was flogging this story and you'd think, given its value, someone
would have repeated it. No, Ms. Rhodes was just filling the air.

John McCain spent time in the military too. He's even been a
prisoner of war. Those are admirable items of the historical record,
but they don't mean that McCain now is an admirable man. He's not.
He, like Mitt Romney, have flirted with the gay vote and are now
flirting with the anti-gay vote. They've lost all credibility with
their antics, and Ms. Rhodes blew hers during our introduction.

I consider myself a fiscal and social conservative. I don't
have the liberal instinct for destroying institutions and only then
wondering why they existed in the first place. One of those
institutions is called "civility."

Molly Ivins by all accounts did a great service to this
country by showing just how corrupt and incivil the civil servants of
Texas had become. Mr. Burton shows a vicious lack of compassion and
civility for someone who can no longer defend herself.
