LOL, thats why I never got into it. Sometimes you can't even hear the difference. Lossless traders actually have to use a program to distinguish a once mp3 compressed sourced show.

mp2' date=' mp3, wma are all compressed audio, its like zipping files. FLAC, WAV, MKW, SHN etc... are all lossless audio, meaning they've never been compressed. Hence one FLAC file is 39 megs while its mp3 counterpart is like 4 megs.[/quote']that's not exactly the difference... so, let's start w/ WAV format, the beginning of everything... WAV is ~1400 kbps audio and features the full spectrum of audio frequencies that human beings can hear (20-20000 Hz)... FLAC/SHN/APE compress WAV files without losing any of the audio data, hence the term "lossless compression"... generally, FLAC files are about 50% smaller than WAV files, running at a variable bitrate around ~800 kbps... MP3/WMA are compressed formats as well, but they discard higher frequencies (as these are harder to detect by human ears than low frequency sounds) of the WAV file in order to achieve a smaller file, hence the term "lossy compression"... a 128 kbps file will generally discard frequencies above 17000 Hz... obviously, lower bitrate MP3s will discard more high-frequency audio than high-bitrate MP3s... the difference between lossless and lossy is not always apparent, but i find it worthwhile ;)

I have an Rio Carbon. About the same size as an iPod Mini, yet cheaper, and a GB more space. I have all of my bootlegs on it too, lol. Still, loseless shows don't appeal to me that much.

I've gotten used to lossless through the other bootlegs I collect (Toad the Wet Sprocket, U2, Dave Matthews Band among others). Lossless isn't just an option with their fans, it's the STANDARD. Most, if not all of the other boards I'm a member of do not support downloads of any 'lossy' media including mp3/mpeg formats. Has to be lossless audio (usually flac or shn) or DVD video only...

I prefer lossless... if for the video alone. Having DVD quality audio and video from Live 8 (not LP yet, unfortunately) is without a doubt worth the extra time and hard drive space...

yeah' date=' but is it full color and does it show images?[/quote']
No, but if you read my post perfectly, you'd see that I was speaking of the 4GB iPod Mini, which also is not in color, and does not show images. :p The 30GB iPod Photo, is what you are refering to I beleive. I'm to poor to afford one of those right now, lol, but if I could, I'd get one. Those are awesome.

My iPod mini is in color. The one I got at Christmas was one of the original mini's, but then I got a newer one that was actually cheaper. It held a couple more songs and was in color.
