The Los Angeles Train Crash

OMFG! :O

I'm like in shock here! About all of it (Rob and Rav the most naturally, that was well done) but Chester confronting Sam, cause I thought for sure she'd put him under her spell or something, and Robin and Jen's confrontation over Patrick's treatment! I was like - what the ****? Downplaying intensity? Is that even morally or ethically responsible for a doctor, but then really her statement about 'the ends justifying the means' made sense. Kinda made her sound a little sinister or crazy but all pioneers sound crazy at some point before they make their big break so yeah... wow. Poor Patrick though... 0_0

Chester and Sam - I read that whole thing thinking; this is sweet, this is nice, happy families, okay... and then Chester at the end I was practically shouting 'Yes!' thank *** someone can see through the act! Though having said all that I'm thinking that Sam isn't a bad person at heart just misguided perhaps... and is really only ever wanting that one thing that she feels matters which is her family. Must be bad to think the whole world seems against you on letting that happen again, huh?

Hmm.

Rob and Rav - I have to admit I sorta saw that coming but at the same time was almost wary of it. I thought the mere notion of hitting on a widower still yet to even bury his wife was beyond the realms of acceptable behaviour. Having said that I also wanted it, cause... d'uh, it's Rob and **** it the man deserves a bit of happiness. Additionally I must also say you did it in a very tasteful way, bringing them together like that. You could almost call it fate for the context of this story in being that here's Rob with a infant stepson and no other half and there's Rav who works in a maternity ward with babies no less to fill that void - so that I thought was kinda sweet. It wasn't rushed I think. You built to that well. And to be honest even Patty, for all her good-intentions, seems to know best too. She could see it before they could I think (attraction, perhaps?) so that made me smile. As for whether or not this is a one-time moment of weakness thing or something more remains to be seen. But awww, that was so sweet I think I'm gonna have to read that again!

Great as always!! Can't wait for more!

Chapter 43

I'm glad that you like how I left it off between Rav and Rob. When I wrote it out I wasn't to sure if I should really go with it, but what the **** this is Rob, so your bounded to like it. And I'm actually glad I did go with it. But as you said that rest is to remains to be seen, hehe.

******

“What are you thinking making Draven believe you've been released from Rose Lawn when you haven't?” Chester asked walking up to her.

“It's just a matter of filling out some paperwork”

“Like ****. I just got back from there. They didn't let you go”

“Well, they should, because I'm better. Can't you see that?” she said and walked pass him going back over to the couch.

“Maybe, Sam, but you're not all there”

“Yeah --” she said to herself and stopped walking turning to face Chester.

“And it's not fair to promise Draven a family reunion that's not going to happen”

“But it could, Chester. Come on, it could” she walked up to him.

“Ok, you need to understand something. When you are finally and legitimately released from Rose Lawn, you can then come home to me, but not right now”

“Chester, please --”

“Sam --”

“Don’t do this to me”

“No, Sam, do not do this. Don’t do this to me. I don’t want to have to committe you again. I'm through with this”

“Are you telling me that we're over?”

“That’s exactly what I'm saying”

“You don't mean that. You don‘t. You’re only saying that so I'll go back to Rose Lawn. Do you see how well I know you? You know why? Because I love you and you love me, and there is no reason that we can't be together”

“Sam, we can't”

“Why not?” she asked.

“Because I finally see the truth. Tonight proves I can't be with you” he said and then walked pass her.

“No, that's so not true, Chester”

“You had a complete mental breakdown with paranoid delusions. You saw dead people. You attacked Talinda with --”

“Ok, you know what? You don't have to recite a litany of all the horrible things I've done, because I remember them” she said stopping him from continuing, “But I didn't go crazy because of you. I wanted to protect you. You know, Talinda, she made me believe that her baby was yours” she said walking up to him.

“What made you think that in the first place? Because I dated Talinda”

“Look, you are not responsible for my breakdown any more than I ever was for any of yours. We have something that's fragile inside. And it breaks easily, but our love -- Chester. Don’t give up on that”

“I tried to help you. The more I did, you got worse. I misjudged the situation, and you're the one who had to pay for it. Maybe if I had gotten you treatment sooner, maybe if we even hadn‘t even gotten back together then none of this would of happen. But I'm not going to -- I'm -- I'm not going to take the chance of that happening again. It's over”

“You know you don't mean that”

“We will always be Draven’s parents. You know? We just can't be together, not as husband and wife, not even as lovers”

******

Once Robin left, Jen sat down on the edge of Patrick’s bed, “I have always been this weird combination of independent and self-reliant, and absolutely no self-esteem. You changed that for me. You loved me. You mean more to me than anyone or anything. I love you so much, it hurts” she said to Patrick who was now tossing and turning again.

“No!” Patrick yelled out as he was having a bad memory. His monitor started beeping again.

Jen got up and moved closer to Patrick and put her hand on his forehead rubbing it, “Patrick, please. Hey. I'm here. Everything's going to be ok. Ok?” she said and then turned to look at the door and then at his monitor which then stopped beeping, “What's happening?” she said and then looked back at the door as Robin came in, “Robin, is this normal?” she asked as she walked up to the bed.

“Patrick’s having a more violent reaction than any other patient I've treated, but the medication is doing what it's supposed to” she said as she turned to face Jen.

“From -- from what I see, this isn't right. This isn't normal” Jen said as she looked at Patrick who was trying to fight whatever he was remembering.

“Well, it seems like he’s had a more violent past than most people” she said as she looked for Jen to Patrick.

“Ugh --” Patrick let out as he moved his arms.

“Come on, you can't convince me this is good. What is happening”

“I don't know” she said as she turned to look at Jen.

“What do you mean, you don't know? You don't know? Have you ever lost a patient to this before?”

“No, Jen”

“No? Can you guarantee me that we will not lose Patrick? Can you?” she said as Robin looked at Patrick and then back to her.

“The treatment is still experimental”

“Please just answer me, Robin. Can you guarantee me that we will not lose him?”

Robin looked at her for a few seconds, “No.” Jen then looked at Patrick who was shaking his head.

Continuing Chapter 43

A half an hour later, Robin had left as she had to check on other patients the hospital was a signing her to. Jen was back sitting on Patrick's bed, who wasn’t moving around at all, listening to his monitor beeping a normal rhythm. Patrick opened his eyes a little and saw Jen sitting on his bed, “Jen” he called out.

Jen looked up and moved her hair back from her face, “Patrick. Hey. I'm right here. How are you feeling?”

“I'm thirsty” he said.

“Ok” Jen said. Patrick moved his arm only to find that he was tied down.

“Get these off”

“Listen, listen to me. These are for your own protection”

“Jen, please, just take them off”

“No, this treatment -- it makes you remember things”

“I can't -- I can't do this anymore!” he said and pulled his arms forwards and did it a couple more times, “I -- I can't be trapped, Jen. Please -- please, you got to let me go, please”

******

“Why are you making our love out to be some kind of an illness? Chester, it's the strongest, most honest tie we've ever had with anyone” Sam said still standing in front of him.

“They won't even let me visit you, Sam” he said and then turned around and walked over to the sliding glass door.

“They don't know us. They don't know what you mean to me”

Chester then turned around, “Why did you run from me in the tunnels after the train?”

“You were with Talinda, and I knew that she would tell you to send me back to Rose Lawn” she saw the look on his face and he looked down, “Oh, that's -- that's what this is about” she said walking up to him, “That's why you don't want us to be together. It's because of Talinda”

“No” he said shaking his head.

“Yes, it is. I can see it. It's all over your face. ***, she's still getting between us. She's still coming after me!” she said stepping back a little shaking her head.

“Stop it, Sam! She's dead!” he shouted, “She couldn’t come after us anyways, she was with Rob! Did you know she married Rob? Well now that life was taken from her!”

“What? How?” in an instead all her hatred for Talinda left her system. She stepped back a little closer to Chester in shock.

“I don't want to talk about it right now. But, yes, I would have taken you back to Rose Lawn, because that's what you need” he said.

“I need you, Chester, ok? I need you”

“Well, that is the problem, I think. You don‘t need me. I've told you over and over you're the strongest person I know. Whether we had good times or bad times, you were unstoppable. And when you were focused, *** help anybody who got in your way. But my life broke you. All the fighting, the betrayal -- you lost yourself”

“No, I didn't” she said shaking her head.

“I saw you on the patio, curled up like a ball, sobbing, shaking, saying you wanted to die. I'm not going to go through that pain again, Sam. I love you too much. And that's why I know I have to love you enough to let you go”

“Stop it!” they heard Draven yell and Sam turned her head looking at the railing to the dining room where they saw him standing, “Stop it! Leave mom alone!” Sam then turned to look at Chester.

******

“Just get these off” Patrick said still struggling to get them off.

“I can't, Patrick. The treatment is working, but I promise you -- I promise you I will stay with you every single second. Do you hear me? Every single second” she said holding his hand.

“Don't let me fall asleep” he said calming down.

“But that's the point”

“It's like being in a nightmare I can't get out of. So you do whatever you have to do”

“Ok”

“Just keep me awake” he said and then turned his head trying to fight the sleep off but then he closed his eyes.

Jen moved up and shook his arm, “Patrick? Patrick?”

“Patrick, where is she? Is she in the nursery? I want to see her, please” a woman said who was lying in a hospital bed, “Patrick, where is she?”

Patrick looked down hating himself for breaking the news to her, “Lisa, our baby died”

“No. No” she got up and started hitting him, “No!” he wrapped his arms around her as she continued to cry out and hit him again, “No! No!”

Jen who moved back down at the foot of the bed looked up. She moved back up closer and put her hand on the side of his face, “I'm sorry” she said and then kissed his cheek, “I am so sorry” the she rested her head on his shoulder.

******

Sam walked over to Draven and took a hold of his hand and brought him over to the couch making him sit down, “Come here. Draven, I'm ok. I'm ok. Your daddy wasn't hurting me. He wasn’t. He was -- he was trying to help me, and he did. Because, see, I -- I thought that I was ready to come home, and I'm not, and he helped me realize that. I just need to spend a little bit more time at Rose Lawn, that's all” she said explaining to him and she ran her hand through his hair.

“I don't want you to go” he said.

“Drav, your mother's making a very difficult decision right now, and we have to make it as easy on her as possible. Can you do that? Yeah?” Chester said sitting on the arm chair of the couch as Draven turn to look at him.

“Yeah” he said as Sam put her face on top of his head.

“All right” Chester said.

Draven then turned to face his mom “I -- I promise you -- I promise you that I'm not only going to be ok, I'm going to be better. Ok? I just need you to come visit me, because, you know, that's really what's going to do it” she said and then brought him into a hug and he wrapped his arms around her. She rested her chin on top of his head, “I'm going to be home for fourth of July” she said looking at Chester.

Poor Patrick... but poor Draven too. For a minute there I actually thought that Sam had 'brainwashed' her son against his father but then she saw sense... but that last sentence, that last statement of hers made me think again - it almost sounded like a threat. *** knows... poor girl's still trying to sort herself out, could be nothing more than that. Chester seems determined to his course not to get back with her - I wonder how long that will last when she finally is released from Rose Lawn.

And as for the guys in the hopsital - Patrick begging not to be trapped? That was a lightbulb moment. Cool.

I have to say that quote that Jen says to him before he wakes out of his state about being independent and self reliant with absolutely no self esteem - I read that and my mouth fell open. It was like you wrote that part about me! Wow... I know you didn't but still, for whatever reason that little phrase of hers made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. ****. Thats good writing there, gurl! ;)

Love it as always. Thanks. Looking forward to more when you get around to it.

Chapter 44

Thanks Rav, but I actually didn't write that quote that Jen said. As a matter of fact I got it from the soap opera show General Hospital and along with the whole ideal for the train crash  . The only thing that is originally written by me is the Rob and Rav stuff. I changed the connections that everyone has from the real train crash story line on GH, putting the band in instead of normal citizens like GH had. But yeah, that where a got it from. So you'll want to thank the writers of GH for writing that, hehe.

******

The Next Morning (7:40 a.m.)

Rav was sitting at the edge of the bed and leaned down picking up her shirt off the floor. She was already dressed in her clothes from the night before, but her shirt was the only clothing to put back on. She put her arm in her shirt and put it over her head pulling it down. Searching the room for her shoes with her eyes as she didn’t want to get off the bed again and go about making noise trying to find her shoes as it would probably wake Rob who was sleeping behind her. She located her shoes close to the door, an even greater advantage to leave. She slowly started to get up and didn’t feel Rob roll over until he put his arm around her waist pulling her back down onto the bed. She landed on her side and looked at him.

“I really do have to go now” she said.

“I just -- I just want you to know that what I said to you last night. I meant it. I meant it when I said that I love you. I know that you may not think I mean it, but I do. And this wasn’t just some one night stand, okay? I want to see you more” he said as he took a hold of her hand, “Can you come by later to night?”

“I don’t know. They may have me make up the hours I bailed on last night. But you know what, I don’t regret ditching work to come help you” she said and then let go of his hand and leaned in giving him a light kiss, “But really, I have to get to work” she said and stood up, walking over to her shoes and grabbed them, putting them on. She turn and grabbed the door handle opening it up, “Oh and by the way…don’t sleep to long” he gave her a confused look as to how she knew that he likes to sleep till 1, “Matthew…you’ve got to take care of him. Babies, you know, they don’t sleep all day”

“Darn it” he snapped his fingers and gave her a sly smirk.

She laughed at that and then walked out of the room closing the door behind her. Rob looked at the door as she closed it all the way and smiled to himself as he wrapped his arms around his pillow. He turned his head to look at the clock on his nightstand and saw that it was 7:50. Suddenly the noise of Matthew crying filled the room through the baby monitor. He groaned and buried his head into his pillow.

******

It took all about 15 minutes for Rav to get from Rob’s to her apartment. She parked her car in her parking spot and got out going over to some stairs that led up to the second level. She walked over to her door and unlocked it going in closing it behind her. Setting her keys down, she rushed down the hall going into her room and looked for something cleaner to wear. When she found something she went into the bathroom and drew up a shower to at least make herself feel refresh before starting her 9 o’ clock shift. After she finished with everything she head out to the kitchen and grabbed something quick to eat. She turned around and walked to the door grabbing her keys and walked out at 8:24.

A half an hour later, 10 minutes to 9, Rav was at the hospital and walked in going over to the staff lockers and showed her ID badge to the security guard right before the door. She pushed the door open and walked over to her locker opening it up, only to see her obsession on the locker door. She quickly grabbed her nurses uniform and closed the locker door slightly so she wouldn’t have to look at the pictures. She changed in a recoerd timing and picked up her clothes shoving them into her locker. She grabbed her cell and put it in her pocket finally closing her locker and walked out of the locker room.

She walked over to the elevators, walking in when the doors open. She pressed the button for her floor. When it stopped at her floor she got off and walked up to the nurses station. Patricia who was already at work, looked up from the binder she was looking at and saw Ravyn.

“Well look who decided to show back at work”

“Sorry about that, but it was an emergency that needed my attention” Rav came up to the nurses station.

“It’s no big deal. As a matter of fact I didn’t see you on the roster today”

“What? When did the new roster come?” She asked surprise as she hadn’t gotten a day off in a while.

“Last night. If you stayed till the end of your shift you would of known. Jessica is taking your shifts for you and along with your patients until your back on again” Patricia said turning around and grabbed the new roster handing it to Rav. Rav took a hold of the roster and looked at it. She was shocked to see that not only did she have just today off but as well as the next four days off.

“Uh, thanks Patricia” she said handing it back to her, “Might as well go then” she walked out of the nurses station going over to the elevator.

“See you in a few days” she heard Patricia say as she walked into the elevator and pressed for the main floor. When it got there she walked out and went back to the staffs locker room. She walked in after showing her ID again and saw one of the surgeons in there just about to leave. She went over to her locker but didn’t open it. She slid down to the floor and brought her legs closer to her and wrapped her arms around them. Lowering her head she cried out. It wasn’t because she didn’t get to work today or that she had a good four days off, it was about what happen between her and Rob and her feelings.

******

A little close to 10, Mike was back at the hospital after Anna forced him to go home last night and ‘get a decent amount of sleep because you won’t be getting to many chances of that’ as so she put it to him. After getting a rare and early call from Rob, he decided to come back and see Anna and Jennifer. When he got to her room, he saw that she was gone from her room. His cell started to ring before he could do anything, “Hello?…Oh hey…yeah I'll be there, Brad…Yeah it's nice to help Rob arrange this…It’s the least we can do for him” he said as he walked around the room and then looked at the door when he saw Anna being wheeled back into her room by a nurse, “Listen I’m at the hospital visiting Anna…Will do, see you soon”

“Thank you, I'm good. Thank you” Anna said looking behind her to the nurse.

The nurse who was the one taking over for Rav, shook her head, “Ok” the nurse said and then walked out of the room”

“Hey” he said as he closed his phone.

“Hi” she responded back and accepted Mike’s kiss when he leaned down, “That sounded important” she said as Mike kneel down next to her.

“Yeah, it was, kind of. It was Brad. Me and the guys are going to meet with Rob”

“About Talinda?”

“Were going to help Rob arrange her funeral” Anna just looked back at him, “Look, she was my best friend’s wife. She doesn't -- she doesn't have any family, Anna, from what Rob told me, except her mom and I would --”

“I think it's perfectly appropriate that your helping Rob. What can I do to help?” she asked.

Continuing Chapter 44

In Patrick‘s room, Jen was back again sitting at the edge of his bed. The sound of his monitor beeping filled the room. Suddenly it turned into an alarming sound again. Jen got up and walked to the door and saw Robin, “Robin! Robin, hurry up” she said.

“Yeah. What's wrong?” she asked as she walked in and heard Patrick's monitor alarming.

“Something's wrong. I don't know” Jen said as she looked at Patrick who was turning around in his bed and moving his arms out.

“See this chair? I'm going to tie you to it. And then you're going to watch while sweetness and I have a party. I've been thinking a lot about when she sat on my lap and kissed me. Let me tell you exactly what I'm going to do to her” Hector said and then turned a gun on him and pulled the trigger. This one wasn’t a memory this was a nightmare about Hector getting Jen and him not being able to help her.

“Stop! Don't!” he yelled out.

******

Amber who was on a small break went into the staffs locker room to grab something from her locker. She walked in and went over to her locker that was about one locker away from Rav’s. She looked down at the floor and jump back as she didn’t know that anyone else was in the room. She sat down on the bench, “Rav?” Rav looked up and wiped her tears away, “Hey. Are you okay?”

Rav laughed a little, “Yeah. I’m fine”

“Are you sure? I haven’t seen you this upset in a while. Did something happen?” Amber asked her.

“Yeah. I think I made a big mistake last night. Something I shouldn’t have done”

“What did you do?”

Rav looked down and then back at Amber, “Sleep with -- with --”

“Rav, with who? Rob?”

“How’d you know?”

“I meant it as a joke, honestly” she said and saw Rav look down at her legs, “It wasn’t good, I take it? Or it something else that’s bothering you that has to do with it”

“Oh ***. Are you kidding me. I’ve never had someone be as gentle and passionate during *** as he was. And girl let me tell you, it was good. But no, it has nothing to do with him not being good in bed. It’s what I fill for him”

“What? Actual feelings, like as in love, or the obsessive, like he's got a hot body kind of feeling?”

Rav laughed a little, “Like as in love. And that's what scares me”

“Of being in love with him?”

“No. Not with him. Just love in general. I’m afraid of love. It scares me. I've had my share of pain from it and it’s something I don’t want to happen again”

Amber moved from the bench to the floor and sat next to her, “Rav, you don’t know what he’ll be like until you give him a chance. He made be completely different from the others you’ve been with. Give him a chance and see what it's like. Don’t jump to conclusion”

“Since when have you become such an expert in love?” Rav said nudging her with her arm.

“Oh, I get it from my own marriage.” Newlywed.

“You know, I eve you”

“Well yeah, if you don’t get up off the floor and get your skinny **** over to Rob‘s. I sure know I’ll be seeing more than eve from you” she said as she got off the floor.

“You know what? Maybe I will go over and tell him” Rav said as she also got up from the floor.

“That’s the sprit!” Amber said, “Listen gotta go back to work. But call me and tell me what happen” she said and then walked out of the room.

Monica walked over to the front door after hearing it ring and open it. She was surprise to see Dave and Stacy the chiefs of staff at the hospital. Stacy was also her mentor for medical school.

“Well, this is a surprise” Stacy said. They came to see if Monica was home but really didn’t expect her to really be.

“Yeah. Uh, come on in” Monica said and moved to the side letting them in. They walked into the living room.

As Stacy was about to say something, Brad walked in and picked up his car keys, “Hey Stacy, Dave” he said when he saw them in his living room.

“Hi” they said.

“You going somewhere?” Monica asked.

“Yeah. Me and the guys are going to help Rob arrange for Talinda's funeral” he said and then saw the look on Monica’s face and walked up to her, “Hey, listen it wasn’t your fault, okay?” he said putting his hands on her shoulder and gave her a light kiss on her cheek. He let go of her and turned around walking out of the living room and then out of the house.

“Yeah” she said to herself and looked down.

“I didn't see you at the hospital this morning” Stacy said.

Monica looked up trying to avoid eye contact with her, “Yeah, I called in sick"

“Meaning that you are avoiding your job and your medical studies” Monica then turned to look at her.

******

Back at the hospital, Anna was back in her bed, “I completely understand why you want to help organize Talinda's service” she said to Mike as he sat down on a chair he moved up closer to her bed.

“Yeah, well, she deserved better -- from life in general and from everyone in particular. She followed her heart and left Chester so he could get back with Sam. When she started going out with Rob everyone thought it wasn’t going to work. Even us guys did too. Everyone thought he was just with her to help her out with the baby. The two of them were good for each other. I just feel that we own it to Rob to help him, as saying that we were wrong about Talinda. I don't know -- I fill that if we hadn’t had them take the train ride, she might still be -- sorry -- you know what? you -- you don't need to hear this”

“I want to. I want to hear it. And I want to be there for you, just like you were for me during that crash. You never left my side for one minute, and I wouldn't have survived that without you. I want to return the favor. We're not going back. I want to understand you. I want to trust you. I'm going to. We're going to build the rest of our life’s together, and we're going to be happy”

******

“Is it working?” Jen asked Robin who was looking at the screen that was used to see how the medicine was doing. The alarming sound on the monitor stopped long ago.

“It's too soon to tell.” Robin said turning to look at Jen.

“How much longer are you going to put Patrick through this? It's like he's being tortured right now” she said looking at him. Patrick was actually calm and it look like he was resting.

“I know, but this is the only alternative to surgery. You have to give the medicine time to work” she said as she looked at him.

“The drugs are tearing Patrick apart. How do you even know if it's helping him?”

“I don't know. The treatment is still experimental, and I'm sorry, but there's not enough data here for me to know for sure”

“You're sorry? Patrick begged me to take him off of this treatment, and I refused. But unless you can show me that there is some sort of progress, I'm going to take him off of it now, because as far as I can see, this is not doing a **** bit of good. He's tortured here”

“Ok” Robin said and then walked out of the room.

Jen looked at Patrick and walked up to him, “Hey, it's over, ok? Just relax” she said running her hand through his hair.

You know I love it - I guess I'm not sure what else to say that I haven't already said! But I will say my reaction (as Rav the character) was pretty accurate. I could see me doing something like that, freaking out the morning after - yeah, that's pretty spot-on. Well written. But yeah I couldn't stop grinning like an idiot as I read that (three, four times over, hahaha) Its just sentimentally and emotionally sweet - I loved it.

But seriously, that was all from another soapy, previous updates??? 0_0 **** - I would never have guessed! Still, if anything makes me eager more then ever before to see all this as a kind of daytime soapy or telemovie in itself! That'd be sweet!!

You write so well you make it your own anyway... love it! However this small part confused me;

“Oh, I get it from my own marriage.” Newlywed.
“You know, I eve you”

“Well yeah, if you don’t get up off the floor and get your skinny **** over to Rob‘s. I sure know I’ll be seeing more than eve from you” she said as she got off the floor.
Did you mean 'envy?' and Newlywed? Who? What??

0_0

May need to explain that to me again, sorry if I'm a bit vague there.

But well - love it. Poor Patrick's dilemma worries me... the treatment seems to have unlocked doors to his psyche that would have arguably been better left alone - but maybe Robin was right in her views that it would all be worth it in the end if they cured him. Still... seems like a rather large IF...

Hmm.

And yeah... more? Eagerly await the next update! Oh I love my drama! The suspense is killing me!! XD No fair - you and your cliffhangers! ;)

*hugs*

Oh, ***. I'm sorry about that. Yes I meant envy. *** my spell is horrible at times. But yeah that's what I meant. And as for the newlywed part it's Amber who just recently got married. Not you, if that if that what you thought, hehe. Again sorry about that. And I would of edit that chapter but I can't, ****.

A new update will be up later today, after I get home from work. *while proof reading make sure she makes senes, hehe*

Chapter 45

Sorry about the double post. As promise here's the next update...

******

“You blame yourself for Talinda Bourdon's death, and now you are afraid to continue with your studies” Stacy said.

“I just needed a break” Monica said as she put her hand on her stomach. What she felt like doing was balling her eyes out.

“You mustn't blame yourself for what happened to Talinda” Dave said.

“If I had diagnosed her properly, she'd still be alive, Dave” she said as she slowly sat down on the couch.

“Monica, do you hear yourself? Do you?”

“All right, you know, what happened to Talinda upset me, but I'm going to be all right”

“No, Monica, you are in pain. Don't brush it off so easily. You know, there are counselors in the hospital that deal in precisely with this kind of thing”

“It's perfectly normal for a doctor to feel this way. We all have doubts every once in a while” Dave said to her.

“Why don't you give Theresa Winters a call?”

“No, it's not necessary. Stacy, honestly, I'm all right”

“Monica, if you don't call her, I will”

At the hospital Jen walked up to the nurses station, “ Where's Adam Johnson? I have to see him”

“He hasn't checked in yet” the nurse said.

“Can I have his cell phone number or his pager or something?” She asked.

“I can't give it out. It's against hospital policy”

“What is your policy on saving a man's life? What's your policy on finding a doctor who can actually help, instead of strapping a man to a bed, drugging him out of his mind with an experimental drug that isn't even working?” She said getting upset about all of this, the whole treatment thing that Robin said would work. **** it wasn’t. She would do whatever it took to get him off that medication.

The nurse felt sympathy for her, “I am sorry --”

“Stop being sorry! Find Dr. Johnson! Find someone who --”

“Patrick had a setback?” Adam asked as he walked up to the nurses station. Adam Johnson was one of the well respected surgeons in this hospital. In his mid 50’s and has been apart of this hospital since his residency days has never has seen such a severe damage to the brain like Patrick’s was.

“Robin's medication isn't working. Is it too late to perform surgery?” she asked.

“No, we've been through this before. Patrick is opposed to surgery”

“Yes, I know he is opposed to surgery, but we really don't have any other choice, because the medication isn't working, and Robin said that the seizures will come back”

“That's true” he said nodding his head.

“Well, then, you are his only hope. I think I can talk Patrick into having the surgery if you can guarantee me -- if you can guarantee me that he will not die, if you can guarantee me that there will be no setbacks”

“And I'm sorry, but you're asking for a miracle that I can't perform” he said and then walked away leaving Jen standing there.

******

In Patrick’s room, Robin was sitting by his side, “Wish you could hear me. I wish -- I wish I knew this was helping you. Which I don‘t think it is. I've worked so hard to develop these medicines, this treatment that's failing you. I mean, what if I'm wrong? What if I'm pushing the wrong treatment just so that I can be the one to save you? I just hope to *** I'm not killing you. I can't lose you, Patrick. Please come back. Patrick?” she said and saw him slowly opening his eyes.

******

Instead of going to Rob’s like she said she might do to Amber, Rav want back to her apartment. She slowly walked up to her door unlocking it and went in. Closing the door softly behind her, she set her keys down and then went into the kitchen. She grabbed a spoon out of one of the draws and then grabbed a jar of peanut butter. She took it with her into the living room and set it on the coffee table. She then reached into her jean pocket and pulled out her cell. Sitting down with a heavy sigh, she crossed her legs, with her cell she went to the recently dialed and looked at the top number. The number was Rob’s. She put her thumb over the send button but then hesitated in pressing it. Giving up on pressing as she knew she couldn’t do it, she set the phone to the side. She then picked up the T.V. remote and turned the T.V. on. Leaving it on whatever channel she had it last on the last time she watched T.V. and then set the remote down next to her cell.

She then stretched her arm out as she leaned forward a little bit grabbing the peanut butter and spoon and then sat back against the couch. Twisting the lid off she shoved the spoon it and got a spoon full. She looked at the T.V. as she ate the peanut butter off the spoon and then looked down at her cell. She put the spoon in the jar and put it back on the coffee table waiting for the peanut butter to clear her mouth. When it did, she picked up her cell pressing the send button. She put her phone up to her ear and listen to it ring, and ring, and ring. At the fourth ring it went to the answering machine. She then hung up without leaving a message. She put the phone on the coffee table and then laid down across the whole couch.

Monica had finally called Theresa which she agreed to meet her at the hospital as her real office was located at Rose Lawn. When Theresa got to the hospital her and Monica went to the waiting area. Monica told her everything that happen and how she felt about Talinda‘s death, “Monica, your instinct and knowledge helped save the lives of other people that night. Give yourself credit for what you did accomplish”

“I don't know. Theresa, I'm thinking about taking a sabbatical from medical school”

“I think you're looking for an escape. That's what taking a sabbatical would be. Distance can be helpful, but hiding from your problems never helps anyone”

“I'm not denying what happened. I'm just reconsidering whether I have what it takes to be a doctor”

“Will you please just promise me you will think about it before taking the sabbatical?”

“I will. Thank you for going over this with me --”

“No, no, no, It's fine” she said as she stood up and so did Monica.

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah”

“Ok. Bye” Monica said and then walked out of the waiting area going over to the elevators.

Patrick looked at Robin, “Where's Jen?” he asked when he didn’t see her.

“She'll be right back”

“Well, did the medicine work?”

“You were in too much pain. Jen wanted me to stop it” she said and turned to look at the door as she heard someone coming and saw Jen.

“Hey. How do you feel?” Jen asked walking up to his bedside.

“Just tired”

“I'm not surprised. You know, you just -- you need to rest now, ok? That's all --”

“I want to go back on the medication” he said and that surprised Robin and Jen.

“Patrick, we've already seen how your body reacts to the treatment. I'm not sure you can take any more” Robin said.

“Well, it's this or the surgery, right?”

“Patrick, you begged me -- you begged me to take you off of that medication” Jen said as she grabbed his hand and sat on the side of his bed trying to reason with him not to do it again.

“I know. I'm sorry, Jen”

“Ok”

“It wasn't fair of me”

“Do you remember anything?”

“Yeah, I do, a lot. But it's all jumbled. Lisa was crying, and I remember meeting her the first time. More of my childhood and Draven. I remember that I got shot”

“As the memories resurface, you're reliving them. Your body feels the pain and the shock that you originally experienced”

“I know that I am the one who wanted this. I know that, but I don’t. I don't want it anymore, ok? We tried, and it didn't work, and that's all, that's it. We'll find another cure. You have survived so much already. We just -- we have to have faith, ok? That's it. We just --” she said as Robin walked over to the door and got a nurse’s attention.

“Excuse me, nurse. I need 40 ccs of this brought down, stat, to add to Mr. Cardossa’s protocol” Robin said handing her the bag of medicine to the nurse.

“Are you sure about this, doctor?”

“Yes. The patient has asked to continue his treatment”

******

Monica got off the elevator and walked over to the nurses station and saw Amber, “Busy, huh?” she said as she walked behind the nurses station.

“Hey, yeah. The nurses at memorial are staging a slow-down, so we get the overflow”

“Oh”

“I thought you called in sick today” Amber said as she looked at her.

“I'm feeling a little bit better”

“Good, good, I'm glad you're feeling better, and we can use the help”

The elevator door open and her sister, Michelle’s boyfriend walked in holding is head with what could be a Kleenex or paper towel “Hey” he said as he walked up to the nurses station.

“Brian. What happened?” Monica asked as she walked out of the nurses station and over to him.

“I was driving Michelle to the market. Some idiot rear-ended me”

“How is Michelle?” Monica asked.

“She's ok -- she's fine. I hit my head on the steering wheel, though, which isn't a big deal, but she flipped out and wanted me to go to the E.R., And it's packed down there, so I thought maybe I could come up here and you could take a look at me and tell her I'm ok” he said.

“Ok. Let's --”

“Thank you”

“Do this in the waiting area” she said and then took him over to the waiting area.

“Ok” he said and sat down on the chair as Monica sat on the table. She then put some gloves on that she grabbed from the nurses station.

“What the **** are you doing in the hospital?” a man asked Brian after he got off the elevator and walked over to him. Michelle then came up to them.

“I hit my head. That's the guy who rear-ended me” Brian said as he looked behind him and saw the man that rear-ended his car.

“Huh. I barely touched your car. Oh, you're milking this for all it's worth. You're not hurt. Huh, you're faking it so a doctor will write up a report”

Monica took a looked at his cut when she moved the napkin, “Brian, your cut looks suspicious. You might have sustained some sort of a head injury”

“Oh, yeah, cut. Well, let's call it a concussion” the man said.

“Dude, will you give it a rest, please?” Brian said turning to look at him.

“Why? So you can stick it to my insurance company?”

“Oh -- you know what? I'm -- I'm really -- I'm fine. Thank you so much. Just tell Michelle that I'm ok” he said.

“Brian?” Michelle called out. Brian then fell out of the chair landing on the ground.

“Oh, nice acting, pal” the man said rolling his eyes.

“Oh, my ***! Brian! Brian! Monica, please help him, please!” she said as she kneeled next to him and looked at her sister as Monica just stood there in shock to frozen to move.

“Yeah -- get up” the man said not believing that something could be wrong.

“Brian, are you ok? Can you hear me? Monica, please! Please help him! Brian?” Michelle cried out.

Pardon my french but that man who collided with Brian is an a*****e! SOB! *grr*

And Patrick asking to continue with his treatment, wow. I just hope he knows what he's doing... time will tell I guess.

As for Rav I actually felt sorry for her. You captured me well! ;) Still, here she is thinking she's falling for her idol and it's like he's disappeared. Given, he does have a funeral to arrange, a baby to look after and a career to manage, but still... yeah. Anyway, all in all great as always. Wouldn't expect it to be anything different!

*hugs*

Can't wait for more when you get around to it!

Chapter 46

Over at Patrick‘s room, in the hallway, Lily and John walked up to Robin, “Thank you, Robin, for calling us” Lily said.

“We're very worried about Patrick, but he told us he wanted us to stay away” John said to her.

“You love your son. I know this must be really hard for you” she said to them.

“Well, we all do” Lily said regarding the rest of his family.

“How's he doing with the treatment?” John asked.

“Patrick was recovering bits of memory” she started out.

“Well, that's good” Lily said relieved that there was finally something to help out Patrick.

“I thought so, too, but then he was also experiencing a lot of pain and trauma, and it kept escalating. It even got to the point where Jen asked me to stop it”

“Well, was that wise?” John asked.

“I've never seen a patient react as strongly as Patrick did to the meds, so maybe it was best to stop” she said.

“Well, then, what do you do to save him?” Lily asked.

“We can't just let him die” John added.

“Patrick just regained consciousness, and he asked me to continue the treatment. I ordered the next dose of meds. Hopefully, this will work, if his body can handle it”

“Brian? Brian? Hey. Hey, hey, are you ok?” Michelle asked as he slowly woke up. He sat up leaning against the couch in the waiting room.

“Yeah, I guess” he said and started to get up.

“Brian --” Monica started saying not to sure if he should get up.

“Oh --” her sister Michelle let out.

“Are you dizzy?” she asked him.

“No. I was before I fell. I'm ok now”

“Ok, just --” she said and had him sit down on the chair. Monica then sat on the table again.

“Nice fall. Real convincing” the man said rolling his eyes.

“Sir, please be quiet. Ok, is your vision blurry?” she said and then asked Brian.

“No”

“Any pain, headache?” she asked.

“No”

Monica then looked over Brian shoulder and saw Adam walked towards the nurses station, “Adam, Brian's car just got rear-ended. He hit his head on the steering wheel” Monica said to him as he came over. She got up from the table so Adam could sit down.

“Oh, ok. Let's take a look. Ok. Let me see here” he said sitting down.

“He blacked out just a minute ago” Monica told him. He then took out a flash light from his coat pocket and shined it in Brian’s eyes.

“Well, your pupils are equal. Do you feel faint or nauseous? Anything out of the ordinary?” he asked Brian.

“No. Like the room was spinning for a second before I fell, but everything's fine now”

Monica ran her hand through her hair before telling Adam what she thought could of caused Brian's fall, “Brian might have suffered an epidural hematoma, or possibly this could be the start of a cranial bleed. I really think that we should order a C.T. Scan, an M.R.I.”

Adam turned his head and looked at her, “I actually don't think that's necessary. I think the bump from the crash wasn't serious, actually. He probably fainted from just the excitement”

“So, he's fine, huh?” the man asked.

“Actually, I would like to take you to an exam room to check you out more thoroughly. But at this point, I'm not really that concerned, ok?” he said as he stood up putting the flash light back in his coat pocket.

“See? I'm ok” Brian said to Michelle as he stood up.

“Better be safe than sorry” she said.

“Thank you so much for everything” he said to Adam and then the three of them walked out of the waiting room going to an exam room.

Monica sunk down on to the couch once they left, filling stupid from scaring her sister‘s boyfriend. Amber who had watched the whole thing walked over to Monica, “Mon. Hey, Monica”

“Yeah” she said looking up.

“You ok?” she asked her as she sat down next to Monica.

“Not even close”

Jen grabbed a hold of Patrick‘s hand before she started to talk to him, “I know that you would rather die than spend what could be the rest of your life in this hospital. And I accept that. But it's hard, because I honestly do not know what I would do without you. I just can't imagine you gone from my life, so I just --”

“It's ok” he said.

Robin walked into the room carrying the dosage for the treatment and walked over to the machine used for the treatment, “What is this?” Jen asked when she saw it.

“It's the last dose of the protocol” she said.

“We just went through this, Robin -- no more treatments. The last one was ripping him apart. Patrick, it was killing you faster than the seizures were” she said to the both of them.

“Patrick, you said you wanted to do this. It's your choice” Robin said looking at him.

“His choice? Are you kidding me? You are the doctor. Can you not see that this isn't working? Are you just too blinded by the fact that it's your research, it's your medication, you're the one who --” she looked at Robin outrage with her, but Patrick cut her off.

“Jen --” he said.

“What?” she asked looking at him.

“Will this medicine work?” he asked Robin.

“You had a bad reaction to the treatment. But you are remembering things. We know that there's progress. But in order for it to work, you must complete the treatment” she said.

“Ok, let's do it”

“Patrick, please, I beg you, not now. Just wait a little bit. At least wait until your body recovers a little bit. You cannot go through this right now” she said begging him not to do it right now.

“Jen, this treatment --”

“You're not --”

“It's my best chance to live. If I start hallucinating or asking you to stop, don't pay attention. It's just the medicine. I want to do it”

Jen paused for a little bit before giving in, “Ok”

******

Rav sat up after laying down for a while which gave her time to think things over, mainly about her and Rob. Was it real fillings? Or was it because being around him gave her a gushy filling as he was her idol? Then why she go and do it with him? Why does she want to hide when he made it clear that he wants to see her more? Especially after he said he loved her. What the **** made him want to say that to her? Because he really does like her or did he say it because he thought she was Talinda? The thought of that made her want to cry. She was able to compose herself when those questions filled her head. She made her mind about her fillings when she was laying there on the couch before she sat up. Give him a chance and see what it's like. Don’t jump to conclusion. Amber’s advise ran through her head. Suddenly she reached out and grabbed her cell off the coffee table. She went back to the recently dialed and pressed the send button. She put the phone up to her ear. It rang, and rang --

“Hello?”

She so did not expect him to pick up, “Rob. Hey, it's me Rav” she said.

“Hey! I thought you had to work?”

“Yeah. I got the day off. Would of known if I didn’t leave yesterday. I’m not saying that I regret ditching work to go be with you”

“That’s good. Would you like to come over now?”

“Yes. I was just calling to see if you were home”

“Yeah I am. I just got back like 20 minutes ago”

“Alright, I’ll be there in probably 20, 15 minutes tops”

“Okay, sounds good. See you then”

“Bye” she said and closed her phone. She smiled to herself and then got up off the couch walking over to the door and grabbed her keys walking out.

******

“I misdiagnosed Talinda, and now I'm overcompensating. I'm trying too hard” Monica said.

“I think you're just being thorough” Amber said.

“No, I'm scaring patients, Amber. I said that Brian might have fainted because of a cranial bleed, right in front of him. I mean, he had a small cut on his head, and I wanted to order an emergency C.T. Scan” she said and felt like crying.

“Ok, just don't be so hard on yourself, ok?”

“Oh, ***” she said and put her hands over her face. She then put her hands down.

“We all go through doubts. I mean, I did myself just a few months ago”

“No, this is about my judgment. You know, I have to trust it if I'm going to be a doctor” Monica said.

“I think you need a day off. Go relax. Take your mind off of medicine for a while, ok?” Amber said putting her hand on Monica’s shoulder.

“Yeah, you're right. Maybe I need a break” she said and looked at Amber.

******

Just like she said she would, Rav was at Rob’s in 15 minutes. Once she parked her car she got out and walked up to his door and after ringing the door bell she waited for him to open the door. It didn’t take him to long to open, but when he did she could hear Matthew crying in the background.

“Hey. I just put him down for a short nap”

“Oh! I’m sorry. If I knew you were going to put him down I wouldn’t have rang the door bell”

“No. It's fine. I can get him back down” he said moving out of the way letting her in. When he closed the door behind her, he turned to face her, “I’ll go to him now. If you want you can come with me or you can wait in the living room. Whatever you want it’s fine” he said suddenly filling nervous around her. He walked out of the foyer area and went down the hall were he looked over his shoulder and saw Rav following him. Walking in to Matthew’s room, he walked over to the crib that was in one of the corners and then picked up the crying infant, “Shh, shh, shh, shh. It’s okay. It was just the door. You know Rav’s here” he said softly rubbing Matthew’s back as Matthew‘s cries turning into fusses. Matthew‘s head was resting on Rob‘s shoulder so it was easier for Rob to rub his back. He looked over to Rav and smiled at her, “Do you mind holding him for me. I’m going to go get him his bottle”

“Sure, I’ll take him for you” she said and then step over to him. Rob softly handed Matthew, who then started to fuss some more, over to her. He made sure that Matthew was safely in her arms before he moved his hands completely away. He then slowly walked out of the room. Rav looked around the room and saw a rocking chair on the opposite corner from the crib. She slowly walked over to the rocking chair and sat down. She then moved Matthew so that he was laying across her arms, “Hey there Matthew. You know that your really lucky to have a dad like Rob. I don’t know if I should be calling him that but technically he is your dad” Matthew cooed up at her, “Yeah.” Rav then slowly start to rock the rocking chair softly.

“You know, your really good with him” she turned her head and saw Rob leaning against the doorframe holding Matthew’s bottle.

******

“This is worse than it was before” Jen said looking at Patrick who was tossing and turning and pulling his arms out more than with the first medication.

“It just means that the medicine's working” Robin said.

“No, he is being tortured”

“Don't you think I know that? Jen, this medicine could save Patrick's life. He chose to take it. If it's too difficult for you to watch him go through this, maybe you should leave” Robin said starting to get fed up with her.

“What? No, I am not going to leave him” she said and looked at Patrick who had stopped turning around, “Hey. Hey, you're ok” she said and put her hand on his forehead running her hand through his hair. Patrick’s monitor started an alarm sound as to say his heart rate was increasing. Suddenly it turned in to a solid sound.

“Oh, *** -- code blue!” Robin said and ran over to the door shouting code blue again.

“No. Patrick, don't die” Jen said.

*gasp!* Patrick! OMG! What the... he can't die... can he?

I'm like - whoa! for most of this! Monica needing a break... Rav stepping into Talinda's shoes, Patrick on death's door - ***! Talk about cliffhangers! But seriously, I like the way to balanced the heavy drama of Patrick and Monica and Brian and all that with Ravyn in almost ideolised fashion in the rocking chair doing the motherly thing... although I have to admit that made me feel all like warm and fuzzy reading that. Sad I know but still, had that 'awww' factor... yeah.

But wow, way to leave me hanging! Need closure dagnammit!!

Chapter 47

“Thanks” Rav said as she stopped rocking the rocking chair when Rob walked up to her. She reached out and took the bottle from him as he handed it to her. She took the cap off while holding Matthew and then lower the bottle towards his mouth. Matthew took the nipple of the bottle hungrily. She turned her head to the left to see that Rob had kneeled down next to the rocking chair.

“He’s taken a real likening to you” he said.

“Yeah. He’s a cute baby” she said looking down at Matthew who was still sucking on the bottle. She then look back at Rob. He surprised her then by giving her a light kiss.

“I missed you, you know” he said when he moved back.

“I wasn’t gone that long” she said. She then looked back down at Matthew and saw that he was close to finishing his bottle. After a couple more sucks on the bottle, the formula was gone and she slowly pulled the nipple of the bottle out of his mouth and then handed the bottle to Rob.

“Just keep rocking him and he’ll fall a sleep in no time. He may roll into you so don’t panic if he does. I’ll be back” he said and then stood up. Rav then picked up rocking the chair again softly as Rob then walked out of the room.

The sound of a flatline for Patrick’s monitor filled the room and into the halls as Jen open the door, “We need help in here!” she called out and turned to looked at Robin and a nurse who was in the room trying to revise Patrick's heart back up.

Robin was doing chest compressions as the nurse had a oxygen pump over Patrick’s mouth, “Come back to us, Patrick. Please” she said as she was still doing chest compressions.

Mike walked into Anna’s room and saw her holding Jennifer. A smile came across his face, “Hello, Miss Jennifer” he said as he walked further into the room, going up to Anna’s bed.

“Hey, Jennifer, say ‘hey, dad’” Anna said looking down at Jennifer as she rocked her.

“Hi, sweetheart” he said when he reached the bed. Jennifer fussed a little as Mike leaned down giving his daughter a kiss on her forehead.

“Ooh”

“How are you?” he asked Anna before leaning down and giving her a kiss too.

She accepted the kiss, “Good” she said when she let go.

“Hey listen. I just thought of something. Something we haven’t done in a while. What do you think of having dinner, right here --”

“Oh” she said looking down at Jennifer.

“In your room?” he finished.

“He hasn't got a very good imagination, does he? I have a much better one for us tonight” she said smiling as she looked up at him.

In Patrick‘s room, Stacy and Adam showed up and started as fast as they could to get Patrick‘s heart beat back up. Amber was also in the room with the paddles the Stacy told her to bring in.

“I'm going to defibrillate. The paddles are set at 300” Stacy said with the paddles in her hand after Amber set them up for her.

“We're clear” Adam said moving the oxygen pump from his mouth. The second nurse in the room finished opening the front of his gown and step back as Stacy moved closer to him.

“Hold off” Robin said grabbing a syringe as she walked over to Patrick’s I.V. Drip.

“What do you mean, hold off? He's dying” Jen said to her as she walked by.

“He needs epinephrine” she said as she reach his I.V. Drip. Adam put the oxygen pump back over his mouth and the second nurse continued with the chest compression.

“I didn't order an injection” Stacy turning her head to look and then looked back at Patrick.

“On top of the experimental meds?” Adam asked Robin.

“No, that's too risky. I'm going to stick to protocol and defib” Stacy told her.

“It could trigger another seizure. Just give the epi a chance to work” Robin as she stuck the needle in the I.V. giving him the meds. Once she finished she stepped away putting her hand on top of her head.

They waited for a few seconds, “No response” Stacy said.

“It's not working, Stacy. Use the paddles” Jen said as Robin walked to the foot of the bed.

“We are wasting time here” Stacy turned to Robin.

“Let's defib” Adam said.

“Charged” Amber announced.

“Give C.P.R. A few more seconds, please” Robin begged.

“Do it. Please, Stacy, do it” Jen said as Robin spoke out to.

“Another seizure will kill him. Just wait”

The monitor then suddenly turned into a normal heart rhythm, “We've got a pulse” Amber said as she looked at the screen.

“Oh --” Stacy let out in relief. The alarm on Robin’s medicine then stopped.

“He's starting to breathe on his own” Adam said pulling the oxygen pump way and the second nurse stop the compressions.

Stacy turned to look at Robin, “That was close” she said.

At Rose Lawn, Chester walked in through the door. Closing the door slowly behind him he then walked into the open living room and saw Dr. Kim.

Dr. Kim turned around as he heard the door close and saw Chester coming up to him, “Chester, thanks for bringing Sam back, but you know, it’s still to soon for you to see her again”

“I know, but I really need to see her. I said some things I didn’t mean to get her to come back here. I just want her to hear it from me that I didn’t mean it”

“Probably right now’s not the best time. She's in with Theresa, there discussing what she just did”

“I don’t care and your not stopping me” he said and then walked down the hall. He reached Sam’s room and Theresa was just coming out.

“Chester. It’s to soon to see her”

“I’m sure she told you what I said to her. I just want her to know I didn’t really mean it” he paused, “There is actually another reason why I’m here”

“Mm-hmm”

“Talinda, you know, that she died in the train crash”

“Yeah. She was really great to work with. When I got the chance to”

“Well, a dates been made for her funeral --”

“And you want to know if it’s okay for Sam to attend it?” Theresa asked.

“Yeah”

“Usually in something like that I would say no, but Sam has made amazing progress since the start of her breakdown. But with her sneaking in and out of Rose Lawn treating this place like a hotel and the last thing she did, I’m not really sure Chester”

“I know, but maybe it could be a type of therapy. As a way of letting go of her past with Talinda”

“But then what if it’s to much for Sam to handled all at once. Being in the church, it may trigger another breakdown. Are you willing to take that chance?”

“It could be a test for her to see if she can handle it. I mean I’m sure she can with her being able to sneak in and out of Rose Lawn”

“You do have a point” she said and then sighed, “When’s the funeral?”

“Two days”

“If Sam can not sneak out of Rose Lawn and still undergoes her therapy for the next two days, I’ll let her go on a day‘s release”

“Thank you Theresa. Um, is it okay if I go in and see her?”

“Sure, but don’t stay to long” Theresa said and then walked away to go and let Dr. Kim know about the agreement that was made. Chester looked at Sam’s door and took a deep breath.

Outside of Patrick’s room Robin and Jen waited in the hall. They turned to look at the door as the second nurse that was in the room when Patrick’s heart stopped walked out of the room closing the door behind her, “I realize what just happened was terrifying” Robin said.

“‘Terrifying’? Patrick almost died” Jen said not looking at her.

“Stacy wants to take him off the protocol” she said after a few seconds of pausing.

“Your medicine is killing him”

“Patrick told me that he wanted to continue the treatment. He told us both”

“He told you that before his heart stopped” Jen said and then started to walked away from her.

“Listen, if he doesn't complete the treatment, the seizures will come back. The odds are overwhelming” she said walking with her and she stopped when Jen turned to face her.

“Well, maybe the medicine that you gave him is enough already”

“It's not”

“It's not? How do you know? It could be, right? Possibly it could be enough? He could be well again, right?” Jen asked her.

“Look, I just put Patrick through ****, ok? I don't want it to have been for nothing. If he finishes the treatment, there is a chance of a full recovery”

The door open behind them and Stacy and Adam walked out closing the door behind them, “Ahem -- he's stable, but the medication is too strong for his heart” Adam said.

“And I want you to take him off it. I'm speaking as chief cardiologist of this hospital” Stacy said.

“You understand that he's probably going to die?” Robin said/asked her.

“I know that he will definitely die if that medication stops his heart again” Stacy said.

“Jen?” she asked her as Jen was his fiancée after all.

“I agree with Stacy” Jen said looking at Stacy.

“It's your decision” she said and then walked up to Patrick’s door opening it and walked in. She then went up to his I.V. Drip and twist as to how fast the fluid should come out, off.

“What do we do now?” Jen asked as she walked in a little more from the doorway where Stacy and Adam were at.

Robin turned her head around to look at them, “We wait” she said. Jen then looked over to Patrick who was still out of it.

Chester knocked on Sam’s door. A few seconds later, she opened the door and was shock to see him, “Chester. What? -- what are -- what do you want?”

“I want to talk to you”

“You don’t have to you know any more. You made it clear you wanted nothing more from me”

“Sam? Please, can I just talk to you for a little bit”

Sam moved to the side and let him in. When he walked in she closed the door behind him. She then walked over to her bed and sat down. She turned her head to look at him when she felt him sit next to her.

“Sam, there something’s I want to explain to you”

“There’s nothing to explain, Chester. Where officially through, I understand”

“No, you don’t. Sam, I didn’t really mean what I said to you. I just wanted you to know that you still need to be here. Your still not all that well and you realized that, but there, at home you didn’t. I know you want to be with me and Draven. I didn’t know what else to do but to say to you that we were through”

Sam just looked at him amazed by all of this, “You mean to tell me that I was right? You were making all of this up? And that you love me and never did stop loving me?”

“Yeah, I did”

“You know what? I’m not mad. I should be, but I’m not, because you made me realized that I’m still not better. I going to try my hardest to get rid of this illness and then I’ll be able to go back to you and Draven and then we can picked up where we left off before I got sick and get married again” she said as she put her hands in her lap and went to touch the engagement ring but didn’t fill it there. She looked down and finally noticed that her ring was gone.

Wow - a lot of progress made here in such a short amount of time. Rav and Rob, Mike and Anna, Chas and Sam - all just *awwww* But the episode in emergency with Patrick's struggle for life was just - wow. You wrote that part the best in this entire update I reckon, I was on the edge of my seat - I could imagine it all... ooohh, well done! Looks like things are finally starting to fall into place now... I just wonder how it will be at Talinda's service...

Great as always! More, more, more! Haha.

Chapter 48

This will be the last update for awhile, and no it not the end of the story. I have two more chapter to go if I can get Jennifer's christening all in one chapter and that's the end. Sad I know. I love writing this story. But don't worry there will be a new story up before you know it. I'm going out of town for the Fourth of July weekend and won't be back until Wedensday. So for now here today's update and hope it suite everyone for a couple days.

******

Jen left Patrick‘s room and ended up at the hospitals church, “Ok. Where do I start?” she asked taking a deep breath, “Our father who art in heaven -- oh, that's not right” she said stopping.

Anna who was holding Jennifer was being wheeled into the church and saw that Jen was sitting in one of the pews. Jen turned her head when she heard her coming in, “I'm sorry. I -- I was here to see the chaplain, but we can wait outside” Anna said.

“Oh, no. Please stay” Jen said as she didn’t want to make them leave.

“You sure?”

“Yeah”

“Thanks. We're ok” Anna said looking up at the nurse who brought her and Jennifer here. The nurse shook her head and then walked out.

“I'm not big on prayer, but I -- I thought I'd give it a try”

“Is it Patrick?” Anna asked her.

“Yeah, that new medication isn't working, so Robin had to take him off of it. All we have to do is wait” she said looking down and then looked back up at Anna.

“Hmm. I know how hard it is to wait”

“Jennifer, isn't it?” Jen asked her.

“That's Jennifer” she said looking down at her daughter who was sleeping peacefully in her arms.

Jen laughed a little, “She's beautiful”

“Thank you. Do you want to hold her?”

“Really?” Jen asked surprised by the offer.

“I think it's going to make you feel much better”

“Thank you” Jen said and then she got up and walked closer to Anna. Anna moved her arm that she had around Jennifer and put it under her head with her other hand supporting her back and softly handed her over to Jen.

“Ok, Jennifer, do your magic stuff. There you go, baby. That's a good girl” Anna said when she was in Jen’s arms. Jen sat down again closer to Anna, “A lot of people saved her life -- Phoenix and Linsey and Robin and Monica. I'm going to be grateful to that for the rest of my life”

“You know, that is over. Anna, it's over. Your daughter is alive and well and healthy and --” she stopped as Jennifer fussed in her arm and she stroke her thumb over the baby’s cheek, “And, you know, that's all that matters in the end, isn't it?”

“I did the same thing in the tunnel, pray that my daughter would be safe and you know what? My prayers were answered, and I hope with all of my heart that yours are answered, too” Anna said and Jen smiled at her.

Robin was looking at the monitors and then turned to look at Patrick, who was still out of it. She took one step closer to Patrick’s bed and sighed. Patrick’s eyes then flung open slowly and turned his head to look at Robin, “Hey”

“Hey”

“Ahem. What happened?”

“Your heart stopped. I had to take you off the medication”

“So what happens now?”

“That is up to you”

Rob came back into the room after putting Matthew’s empty bottle in the kitchen and walked up to Rav who stopped rocking. She leaned forward a little and handed the now sleeping infant slowly to Rob. He softly walked over to the crib and softly turned Matthew on to his stomach and gently laid him down. He backed away from the crib and turned to look at Rav. She got up from the rocking chair and together they slowly walked out of the room. Rob grabbed the handle to the door and slowly closed it but not all the way.

The both of them then walked down the hall and walked over to the kitchen, “Hungry?”

Rav looked up at him as she sat down on one of the stools that were in front of the kitchen. She wasn’t sure if it was a statement or a question, but she saw that he was waiting for an answer, “No. I’m fine”

“You sure?”

“Okay. Fine. Do you have some peanut butter?”

“Sure, I do” he said and then turned to face the cabinet and open it, pulling it out. He then turned around and opened one of the draws and pulled out two spoons. He slid the jar to her and then handed her a spoon. She twisted off the lid and as soon as she got it open, Rob stuck his spoon in the jar.

“Hey!” she cried out when she saw how much he took.

“What?”

“That’s too much” she said as she got a spoon full.

“And that’s too much” he said to her.

“You going to do something about it?”

“Um, I’ll think about it” he said and smirk at her. He then set the spoon that he was holding and went around the kitchen counter slowly walking over to her.

“Rob?” she asked not sure what he was going to do. He came up to her and then grabbed her arm that was holding the spoon. He took it out of her hand and ate the peanut butter off of it. Rav’s mouth fell open as she watched him, “Hey! That’s not fair! You can’t do that!” she cried out.

When Rob finished he set the spoon down on the counter and spoke up when he was able to, “Do something about it” was all he said.

Continuing Chapter 48

She grabbed the front of he’s shirt and pulled him down closer to her, “I think I will” she said and then moved him even closer to where they met in a kiss. As they continued to kiss, Rob wrapped his arms around her waist as she let go of the front of his shirt and wrapped her arms around his neck which then deepened the kiss. It was Rob who slowly let go of the kiss. He kept his arms around her waist resting his forehead against her’s. They stayed like that for a while until Rav spoke up, “Rob?”

“Hmm?”

“There’s something I need to tell you”

“Okay”

“I -- I --” The sound of the phone stopped her from continuing.

“I’ve got to get that” he said and then gave her a light kiss before he let go of her. He walked over to the phone and picked it up, “Hello?…Oh, hey Mike…Why so soon?…I see. Yeah wouldn’t make her mad at you again…Um, sure, but you know I’ll have to bring Matthew with me…Okay then I’ll see you soon” that was all of his side of the conversation that Rav heard. He then hung up and walked back over to her. He then took a hold of both her hands, “How do you feel like going to a sudden spur of the moment christening?”

“Who’s christening who?” she asked.

“Mike and Anna are christening their daughter Jennifer”

“Where are they doing it? Anna can’t leave the hospital just yet” she said and saw the look on his face, “I was her nurse”

“Oh! So? Do you want to come with me? And it's at the hospital‘s church”

“Sure. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to one”

“Okay, then it settled”

******

“It’s okay, Sam. I have it with me” Chester said putting his hand over her's as she continued to look at her hand.

“You do? I’m sorry Chester I didn’t know I lost it. Where did you find it at?” she asked looking at him.

“I found it on the train, when you hid from me” he said and then reached into his pocket and took out the engagement ring along with the bracelet he gave her when he first committed her. He then got up off the bed and kneel down in front of her and took a hold of her hand, “Samantha Cardossa will you do me the honor in becoming my wife, again?”

“Chester, I already promised you that I would married you”

“I know, I just want to hear it from you again”

“Okay. Of course I will. I’ll marry you” she said and then he placed her engagement ring back on her left ring finger, “And this belongs to you” he said and put the bracelet in her hand.

Sam looked down at her hand and was shock to see her bracelet, “Oh, my ***. I didn’t know I lost it. I’m sorry Chester”

“Don’t be”

“Thanks for finding it” she said and put it back on her wrist.

“I’m sorry for the way I told you about Talinda”

“No. It’s not your fault”

“Um, I asked Theresa if you could be release for a day and go to her funeral, but if you don’t want to go it's okay. I understand”

“You know I do. I do want to go. I treated her like **** when she came to town” she said and then looked down. She looked back up, “What's going to happen with her little boy?”

“Rob will take care of Matthew”

“Oh yeah. Forgot they were married”

“Yeah. They were”

She was silent and then started to cry. Chester wrapped his arm around her and pulled her into a hug letting her rest her head on his shoulder, “I never really wanted her to die. My mind was playing tricks on me, telling me not to trust her. I wanted to forgive her, but now I can’t. I can’t do that Chester because she’s dead”

“Hey, it’s okay. She knows, she knows” he said. His cell phone started to ring, so he let go of her and pulled it out of his pocket, “Hey…Hey Mike…Sure I’ll be there…Is everyone coming, except Joe?…Okay. Be there soon…” he then hung up.

“Where do you have to go?” she asked him.

“Mike and Anna are going to be christening their daughter at the hospitals church. And they want me to be there”

“Anna had her baby and it‘s a girl?” she asked surprised cause the last time she remember was that Anna had just found out she was pregnant. But that was six months ago. At that time Anna was only three months along.

“Yeah. All of us thought she wasn’t going to make it after having her”

“Why? What happen?”

“She had Jennifer during the crash and by c-section”

“Oh, my ***. I’ve sure missed a lot. There okay now?”

“Yeah. Listen I’ve got to go now. I’ll see you in a couple days” he said as he got up and leaned down giving her a kiss on her forehead. He then walked over to the door and opened it up walking out.

Sam frowned and then looked down at her hand.

******

Patrick was now back a sleep. After looking at his monitor, she turned to look at Patrick, who was turning his head, “It's ok” she said and touched his arm. Robin then walked over to the door and walked out closing it behind her.

Robin was on a ledge ready to jump it. She closed her eyes and was about to fall down, but Patrick put his arm around her waist and push them down on to the ground. They landed and Robin quickly got up and started yelling at him, “That wasn’t necessary!”

Patrick then got up ready to yell back at her, “Yeah, if you believe that, you’re as brain damaged as I am!”

“Oh, really? You think that? You feel comfortable making that judgment? Well, you shouldn’t, because you don’t know anything about me. You don’t know what I need or what I want, and you sure as **** don’t know what I have to live with!”

Patrick turned his head wanting to fight the memory off as it was something he never wanted to re live again. The sound of his heart rate increasing sounded on the monitor as he tightened he’s body up.

“Patrick, I’m trying to tell you that I’m H.I.V. Positive” Robin said. She wanted to jump off the ledge so she wouldn’t have to live with it for the rest of her life. Patrick was a little shock but he wasn’t going to judge her. He step closer to her and slowly leaned down giving her a kiss.

Patrick's monitor was making an alarming sound. Robin quickly walked back in and up to his bed, “Patrick, it's ok. Shh. It's all right. It's ok” she said rubbing his arm. Patrick turned his head and slowly opened his eyes. He closed them and opened them back up turning his head to look at Robin. He then grabbed the sleeve to her jacket. Robin tried pulling her arm away but Patrick was to strong and pulled her down into a kiss. The alarming sound on his monitor stopped as Jen who was walking down the hall with Chester before he went to Jennifer’s christening came up to Patrick’s door and they were shock to see what was going on.

“What’s going on in here?” Jen asked. Robin found the strength to finally pull away and she did. She turned around to see Jen and Chester in the doorway.

Very sweet... and I can imagine our war over who ate the last of it out of the jar in my mind too - haha... priceless. Jen's christening should make for an interesting finale I imagine. Chester's proposal kinda struck me as odd... but I guess love really does conquer all in the end, huh? Sweet.

I'm glad Patrick survived the rather unorthadox treatment but still... did I read that last part correctly? In his delusional state he was kissing Robin as Jen and Chas watched on in stunned silence from the doorway??? XD classic cliffhanger, awesome!! haha... explain that one Pat, haha...

Aww, I'm sad you wont be updating for a bit but I'm happy for you to be going away for a well-earned holiday. I too am sad to see this end - but I'm more than eager to read anything else you dream up for us! Yay!!

Well thanks. Look forward to the chistening... and closure I guess. It will be bittersweet but still... a happy ending for such a tragic beginning!!

*hugs*
