The Los Angeles Train Crash

“Ok. Two minutes. This would be a good time to book, young fella” Luke said back at the tunnel to Justus.

“What about you?”

“I'm right behind you” Luke said as he push the timer to make the bomb go off and ran off after Justus. The bomb started beeping as the numbers counted down to being set off.

“Never changed for you, did it, Cooley? You saw this train wreck as a missed opportunity” Chester said to the D.A.

“We learn to live with life's little disappointments”

“Hector Ruiz survived. How come you're not looking for him instead of coming to us and question us about the crash? You don’t know, but he might be going after somebody very vulnerable -- like maybe one of your grandkids? Or your children? Because, you know, you put him in jail. Then let's see how cavalier you are” Suddenly there was an explosion that came from the tunnel. Everyone that was waiting out in the triage area turned to look towards the tunnel.

“Hey. Where's Luke?” the commissioner asked Justus when he came out into the triage area when he didn’t see Luke.

“He said he'd be right behind me” Justus said turning to face the tunnels.

“If he's gotten himself killed --” the commissioner started to say but was stopped by Luke when he showed up into the triage area.

“Yeah, I know -- your life would be a happier place. Look, I set the charge right where I wanted, and it got through, but there's another rock wall behind it, and I'm afraid if we try to blow that one, he will be buried”

“Where does that leave Patrick?” Jen asked.

“Jen, I'm looking for him” Chester said.

“No, I mean --” Jen started to say.

“Come on” Chester said and started too walked towards the tunnel with Jen behind him.

“Chester --” the commissioner started to say, but he knew that there was no use in stopping him.

“Well, Luke, it didn't work. What are we supposed to do now?” Robin asked.

“We can only hope for the best. Patrick has better survival skills, I think, than you giving him credit for” he said to Robin.

“Help!” Rav shouted as she and Rob continued to pound on the door.

“Hello!”

“Well, this is exciting. Obviously, no one can hear us” Rav said as she stopped and Rob did the same.

“Yeah”

Rav then sat up against the wall near the door. Rob did the same and sat down next to her as he knew it was going to be a long time before anyone realized that they were missing.

“I wonder what happened to all those interns” Rav said.

“What interns?”

“Oh, we have interns down in the emergency room. It's been said around the hospital that they used to sneak up here for whatever reasons all the time. Probably to smoke -- what -- what's the phrase that you say in this country where two people -- two --” Rav started but couldn’t find the phrase she wanted to use.

“What, "hook up"?” Rob asked looking at her.

“Yes, hook up” Rav said and then started to laugh at how stupid she just felt. She stopped laughing and they sat there in silence for a while. Rav then turned to look at Rob and found him staring at her. There was only so much that she could take of Rob staring. She then turned her head slightly to the side to avoid eye contact with him. He then lightly put his hand on the side of her face and turned her head back to face him. They stared at each other for a while until Rob leaned in a little closer to her. Rav closed her eyes slowly as their lips touched. The kiss went on for about a minute or two, until she pulled away covering her mouth with her hand in shock.

“Oh, my ***” she said softly into her hand.

“There's something I should -- I should probably tell you” Rob said softly with his hand still on the side of her face.

“You know, Rob, some things are better left unsaid --” she said after she moved her hand away from her mouth but was cut off by him.

“No, no --

“Or left said the way they were said”

“No, I think you should know. What just happened? That kiss? It wasn't -- it wasn't intentional or anything"

“Really?” she said raising her eye brows.

“Yeah” he said softly.

“It sure felt intentional to me”

“No, I mean planned. It wasn't -- it wasn't planned. That's what I mean. I just -- I feel like my whole world is just -- is crashing down on me, and all of a sudden, here you are. You look beautiful, and it move me”

“Ok, well, in case you hadn't noticed, I’m not exactly insulted. I mean, I wasn't like screaming ****** murder or --”

“That's very, very true. Are you saying that you wanted to kiss me? Is that what you're saying?

“Not -- not consciously, but --” she said now feeling embarrass, cause after all this was her idol that she was kissed by.

“Ok. Me, too. You know, we -- we’ve both lived in the same town, moving in the same circles. How is it that we've never met each other before?”

“I don't know. I think we both live complicated lives. You know, you’re married -- well, were married. I don’t want to push you into another relationship so fast just right after losing your wife. This is why it can’t happen again”

“No, no, of course not. Still, don't you -- don't you wonder just a little bit what -- what would've happened if -- oh, forget it, never mind”

“No, say it. What?”

“No. I mean, there's no -- there's no use speculating”

“Well, what else are we going to do?” she said regarding them being stuck up on the roof top.

“That is -- that is very true. Ok. What -- what do you think would've happened if we would've met at a different time, in a different place?”

Indeed! That's what I wanna know! XD

OMG, so sweet, so sweet... and yet... poor Patrick. Hmm. How is it that the good there is also bad? *snuffle* But I loved it! I loved it!

My only question really (forgive me if I read this wrong) but when Rav was having a hard time finding the term 'hook up' you had one of them (was it Rob?) asking how it was they hadn't met before this crash incident when they ran in similar circles. If that really was the case and she was local (American) surely she'd have a better grasp of their language/expressions/terminology, wouldn't she? Unless she was just being... shy... and come to think of it now I have said all that I think I understand! Haha! Very clever indeed! Very me too! I certainly wouldn't be the type to be throwing myself at any man let alone my idol who was just recently A) in one of the most traumatic life experiences one could image (the crash) and B) widowed for less than a day!

0_o

*** - just great! Joe's and Karen's little game there at the start pretending as they were just just plain sweet. Joe's so known for being hyperactive that it's nice to see him being so...'normal' XD and very sweet too.

Aww.

I can't think of a better response really, except;

I wanna read that kissing part again!! :D

Chapter 36

As for Joe acting 'normal' in the last updated...let just that he doesn't want other set back, as he's still recover from his injury he obtained during the crash. In no time soon, after getting out of the hospital, the hyperactive Joe we know will be back, hehe. But you got it right about the 'hook up' part, Rav, the Rav in this story was just being shy. Okay on with the update...

******

“Okay Joe, your vitals are really good. Still I want you to get some more rest, ok? I have to go and check on my other patients. I’ll come back later and change the bandage” Amber said. Then she turned around and walked out of the room closing the door behind her.

“I’m glad you’re out of the woods. You know, you gave me a real scare there when your heart stopped” Karen said sitting on the edge of his bed.

“I’m sorry”

“No -- no you don’t have to be, okay?”

“Have I told you lately how much I love you?”

“No, I don’t think you have” she smirked after saying that.

“Well I do” Joe said and then Karen leaned down and lightly kissed him. It then turned into a deeper kiss. Either one of them heard the door to Joe’s room open.

“Wow, do you two ever stop?” Brad said as he walked further into the room.

Joe and Karen pulled away from each other, “Not if we can help it” Joe said.

“You know what, I’m going to go down to the cafeteria and get something to eat. It’ll give you some time to talk to Brad, ok? I’ll be back” Karen said and leaned down giving Joe another kiss. She then let go and got off the side of his bed, “Hi” she said to Brad as she walked up to the door.

“Hi” he returned and then looked back at Joe, “This wasn't how the trip was supposed to go”

“Rob and Talinda had a great wedding. We're all alive, although you don't look as happy as you should be. Come on, Brad, you were the hero of the day. You helped saved my life and Anna's baby”

“Hmm. Yeah. Well, unfortunately, not everyone made it”

“What do you mean?” Joe asked

“Talinda died in the crash, just as I showed up with the rescue team”

******

At Rose Lawn, Sam’s father had just finished talking to her therapist. When she walked away he walked up to Sam's door and knocked on it. There was no responds. He then opened the door, “Sam? Sam --” he stopped when he saw that her window was wide open. He quickly walked up to the window and looked out of it, “****” he said knowing she escaped. He then pulled himself back into the room and turned around, walking out of the room.

******

Chester walked into the tunnel and stopped when he saw the solid wall. He had felt like he failed trying to find his fiancée’s brother. But there was nothing more anyone or he could do. It was all up to Patrick now, that is if he could still find a way out, but that’s not likely to happen.

He was about to turned around but stopped and turned back to face the solid wall, “This was from me and Luke, Patrick. A last chance. Why didn't you run with it?” he said to the wall as if Patrick could hear him.

How was he going to tell Sam that her brother died in the crash? Especially about Talinda too? Even though she had hated her since she came to L.A., did Sam really need to know about Talinda? It was probably better if he didn’t say anything to her until she asked questions about her. Having to tell her about Patrick was going to be a hard one to do. That was what Chester was thinking as he continued looking at the wall.

******

Back at the hospital, Linsey was being wheeled up to the nurses’ station with Phoenix pushing the wheelchair she was in. Dr. Bergstrom was following them and then walked up to the nurses’ station when they got into the main area, “Patricia? Do you know where Ravyn is?”

“Yeah, she's on her break, Melissa. She should have been back by now” Patricia said as she was looking through another patient’s binder.

“Okay, well that’s no help. Do you know where Linsey Farrell’s folder is at?”

“Yes. Ms. Ranter put them on the counter right there” Patricia pointed to where the folder was at. Melissa took a couple steps to where Rav had set the binder at and picked it up. She open it up and took out the release form she sent up awhile ago, “Okay, Linsey if you could just sign right here, then your free to go” she said putting the form on top of the binder. She then handed the binder to Linsey who took it along with the pen and signed on the parts where she needed to sign at. Linsey then handed the binder back to Melissa, who then put the form in a basket along with other paper work, “Okay. I’ll be seeing you in about a month for an ultrasound”

“Thanks” Linsey said. Phoenix then wheeled her over to the elevator with another nurse going with them.

******

“How did Talinda die? I don’t remember her being hurt” Joe said to Brad.

“Monica told me that it was a punctured lung. Talinda cracked her rib during the crash but didn’t say anything to Monica about it hurting her. Monica’s been blaming herself over it”

“It’s not Monica's fault. I meant she’s the only one who knows anything about medicine. She had me, Anna and her baby to worry about. She did the best she could”

“Yeah, that’s what I keep telling her” Brad said more to himself.

******

Monica had gotten out of her bed and went down to the morgue where Talinda’s body was at. When she came to the double doors of the morgue she slowly pushed one of the doors open. Slowly walking in gave her the creeps with all the other dead bodies in the room, but it wasn’t hard to find Talinda’s body. Her body was lying on the autopsy table with a blanket covering all of her body only allowing her head to be shown. A light from the autopsy table was shining down on the body. Monica shakily walked up to the table, “I'm so, so sorry, Talinda” she said softly. She then moved her hand up to her mouth and cried to herself.

“What about Paris, hmm? Walking through Champs Elysees, wind blowing through your hair?” Rob asked Rav. What he was asking her was what it would have been like to meet each other there for the first time, if they never met on the roof top.

“It wouldn’t matter”

“How about Rio? Dancing in the streets during a carnival? King in the chips at a chemin de fer table in Monte Carlo?

“Doing what? What?”

“What? Come on”

“No, no. It would have to be moikackjack in Atlantic City, and I would be on the other side of the table dealing the cards”

“You suck at this game” Rob said.

“What? I'm sorry” she said slightly laughing.

“Just --” he started to say but stop.

“What? I --”

“Play along. Play along”

“Ok”

“Ok? All right. We're in Atlantic City. I'm raking the chips, and you are the dealer”

“Ok. But I’ll make sure that you get all the good cards so you stay at the table”

“But, see, I wouldn't need convincing”

“What are we doing?” she asked giving up on the little game.

“Oh. I don't know” he shrugged.

“I mean, Rob, it's pointless, ok?”

“I know”

“Then let's make a deal, ok?”

“Ok”

“If -- if either of us comes up here when the other one is here, we back off. Ok? No contact. It's just it’s too soon for you after losing your wife. And I don’t want to set myself to get hurt”

“Deal. But I would still like to get to know you, Rav. And I wouldn't want to rush you into a relationship you’re not ready for. Especially something I’m not ready for, either”

“It’s okay. A friendship would be the best right now” she said and Rob nodded in agreement. Suddenly the door open and there stood Amber. She pushed the door all the way open and propped it, “Oh, my *** thanks I thought we were going to be stuck up here all night” she said as they got off the ground.

“What happened?” Amber asked them.

“I came here to get some air” Rob said.

“Yeah, I -- I came out here for the same thing. I forgot to prop the door open” Rav said as she crossed her arm hugging them close to her body.

“And thus we were pounding on that door forever”

“Yelling till we're almost hoarse”

“Well, it's lucky I showed up, then” Amber said.

“I -- I'm going to go. It’s was nice meeting you, Rav. See you around” he said

“Bye” she said and then he walked back into the hospital. Rav was then about to do the same but Amber stopped her by grabbing her arm.

“Hey. Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait, wait, wait, wait. You’ve got some explaining to do ranter. Like what happen up here with him!”

“What? You know I come up here on my brakes”

“Mm-hmm, then why are you giggly happy? Tell me what exactly happen here?”

“You know I don’t kiss and tell” she said and then slapped her hand over her mouth knowing what she just said.

“Kiss and tell? Rav, did you kiss him?” Amber said looking at her, “Oh, my ***, you did!”

“No! I didn’t! He did! I tell you it was all him!” she said as Amber started walking towards the door, “Amber! You’ve got to believe me!” she said walking to catch up with her.

“No. I believe you. Now you’ve got to get back to work” Amber said as they walked back to the nurses’ station.

“For this place, this hole to swallow you -- it's not right” Chester said as he finished all he was saying. He then turned around and walked out of the tunnel. Once he was cleared of the tunnel, Sam who was around the corner walked into the tunnel. She stopped when she saw the solid wall.

“Oh, Patrick. Oh, man” she said to herself.

Chester walked into the triage area. Jen who was still there saw him, as she was waiting right out near the entrance into the tunnel, in the triage area, “Nothing?” she asked and saw him shake his head, “I don't believe -- I don't believe you”

“I kept thinking he'd walk out in one piece. I -- I don't know how to say this right now. I don't know what to say, I don't know what to do, I don't know --”

“I should go down there”

“No, no, no, no. There's nothing -- there's nothing for you to do down there” he stopped her as she was about to go into the tunnel.

“Chester, I didn't want to leave him. I didn't want to leave him. You made me leave. I just -- I didn't want to go. I shouldn't have gone. Why?” she asked him, upset that she still had to leave Patrick in the tunnel.

Back inside the tunnel, Sam was still looking at the tunnel wall, “Ok, you never gave up on me, even when everyone else thought my marriage to Chester was a shame. You help me get all the way from Arizona to here. That's exactly what I'm going to do for you. I'm going to believe in you, like the same way you believed in me. I mean, I have to. I have to. I mean, who else is going to save me when I get into trouble?” she said and then heard someone cough. She couldn’t really make out who it was until the person got closer, “Patrick?” she asked.

“Sam --” he started to say as he walked up a little closer to her

Sam did the same and put her arms around him, “Patrick? Oh, my goodness” But sudden the ground gave out on them.

“You can't really give up, can you?” Jen asked Chester.

“I'll -- I'll do whatever you want” he said already knowing that she was in love with Patrick.

“I want to find Patrick. I want to find him, Chester, even --”

“Listen --”

“Even if he isn't alive”

“Listen, we'll hire people”

“Mm-hmm”

“We'll get maps of the tunnel”

“Ok” Jen said. She would agree to anything to get Patrick out, alive or in a body bag.

“We'll do whatever it takes. Ok?”

“Ok”

“What are you doing here?” Chester asked when he saw the two detectives that worked on the tunnel during the crash.

Down underneath the tunnel, in an abandon mine shaft, Patrick and Sam coughed as the dust was falling in the air. Sam brushed off some of the dirt that was on her and looked at her brother, “Oh, my --” she started to say.

“Are you ok?” Patrick said looking at his sister.

“I'm fine. Look at you”

“I told you to stay where you were”

“I don't care. You can yell at me all you want, I don't care because you're alive” she said happy that he was

“Sam, please. That's fine, ok? Later. I got to figure out a way to get out of here” he said looking up at the hole they fell through.

“I'm not worried, because together we can do anything”

Chapter 37

An hour later after Sam had escaped from Rose Lawn, her father came back after he had left to go find her, “Sam's gone missing from Rose Lawn again. I just came from the Glencoe tunnel staging area, but she wasn't there. I want a man posted in case she shows up, and you put another outside Chester's place. Finding Sam takes priority over everything” Sam's father said talking on his cell. Then he hung up, putting his cell away. He had a couple people out looking for her.

“You had me paged?” Theresa asked walking up to him.

“Yeah, I need your help. It's Sam” he said turning to face her.

******

Back at the triage area, one of the detectives was holding Jen back so she wouldn't go back into the tunnel.

“Let me go! I have to find Patrick! You people certainly aren't doing anything about it” Jen shouted trying to fight her way out of Andrew's grip on her.

“The area is too unstable! If you go in there, we're just going to wind up having to dig you out, too”

“Let me go!” Jen shouted out again.

“Do me a favor. Call someone to pick you up, Jen”

“I don't have to. My father's the commissioner, you know. And no, I'm not leaving with him. He can kiss my ***. I have to find Patrick. Do you understand that?”

“We just got official word. The search is off” the second detective said as he walked back into the triage area.

“No! No!” Jen started to yell out once she heard him say that. She continued fighting the detective off.

******

Inside the tunnel that no one knew they were in, Patrick looked up the wall of the mine shaft, “Looks pretty steep, a lot of loose rock. It's going to be tough to climb” he said turning to face his sister.

“You're always such a pessimist. I can do this with my eyes closed” Sam said and got closer to the wall. She grabbed a hold of a rock that was tightly secured to the wall and slowly started to move up the wall.

“Sam, don't try --”

“I'm fine” she said looking down at him. She then looked back up and grabbed another rock to pull herself up.

“Sam, do not try to climb this. You can cause another slide --” Patrick started to say to her. What she grabbed was a loose rock and lost her balance making her scream. Patrick grabbed her as she fell back and put her back on her feet.

“Oh, wow” She said brushing her hands.

“Yeah, don't do that again”

“I think we're stuck down here. We're together” she said looking up at the hold they fell through.

“Yeah. We're together” he said doing the same.

******

At the hospital, Brad came back to Joe’s room after he left about an hour ago. When he walked up to the door he saw that Karen was back. He then also saw that they were attached to each other again.

“Ahem” Brad let out to let them know he was there.

“Sorry” Karen said as she’d pulled away from Joe.

“If you two would like some privacy, I could go down to the coffee shop or take a long walk around the hospital, depending on how much time you actually need, but if I know Joe like I think I do, then single espresso it is”

“If you really would like to help, you can go stand in the corridor and turn away any doctors or visitors who want to interrupt my time with my fiancée” Joe said

“Actually I was going to tell you that I’m going to go home. Take a long nice shower. So you're going to have to settle with hanging out with Brad, at least until I come back”

“Ok, I'm letting you go under protest, but not without another kiss” Joe said holding her arm.

“Quit distracting me or I’ll never be able to leave”

“You know, I should really go to. I have to check on Monica, see if she can go home. I’ll be back tomorrow” Brad said and then walked out leaving Karen and Joe alone.

*******

“Oh, commissioner --” Robin said when she saw him coming up to her. She was now back at the hospital knowing that she was no use at the triage area.

“Hi” he said walking into the waiting area that she was sitting in.

“You came to check on me?” she asked when he sat down next to her.

“Are you all right?”

“Yeah, I'll be better when Patrick gets treated. The additional drugs have been shipped from New York. And the doctor who made them is flying out here to treat him. We just need to get him here”

“Robin, that's wh--” he started saying but Robin cut him off.

“How much further have you dug into the mountain?”

“That's what I'm here to tell you. We're not going any further”

“I -- I don't understand”

“The county has called off the search, all right? Everyone agrees there's no way Patrick could have survived”

“What is wrong with you people? Patrick is in there alive. We have to get him out. Get off of me” Jen said still struggling to get out of Andrew’s grip.

“I feel so bad for Jen” Monica’s sister, Michelle said. Her, her boyfriend and her sister Maddie had came back to see if anything else had happen, especially with Patrick so the girls could tell there cousin Robin. All three of them were off to the side and watched Jen finally break off Andrew's hold on her.

“You can't do that to someone. You can't force them to believe that the person they love is dead. She needs to be able to keep on hoping, even if it's against reason” Michelle’s boyfriend said.

“I still think we should take her home or something” Maddie said.

“We've done everything we can” the second detective said.

“The rescuers' lives are at risk. We have no other choice but to seal up both ends of the tunnel” Andrew said to Jen.

“What part of "you will be burying Patrick alive" don't you understand?” she questioned the two detectives.

“You got to face the facts. Patrick is dead”

Jen was angry by what Andrew said and slap him, “Don't say that”

“You just assaulted a police officer” the second detective said.

“Don't you ever say that!” Jen said again to Andrew.

“I'm placing you under arrest” the second detective said as he took out his hand cuffs.

“No, Jen is understandably upset” Michelle said walking up to them.

“She's out of control” he said.

“It's -- it's ok” Andrew said holding his cheek where Jen slapped him at.

“If we don't get Jen into custody, she'll run right back into that mountain and someone will die trying to pull her out” the second detective said. He then grabbed Jen’s arm.

“No, don't do this” Jen said.

“I'm placing you under arrest for obstruction” the detective said starting to read Jen's rights to her as he placed the cuffs on her.

“No”

“You have the right to remain silent” He continued reading her rights and finished placing the cuff on her. Then he turned around and forced her to walk out of the triage area.

“Patrick is not dead. Do you understand that? He's not dead. He's not dead” Jen said to the detective dragging her out of the triage area.

******

“Maybe we can stack some of these railroad ties together and climb out of here” Patrick said looking around at some of the things that were in the mine shaft.

“How did you get stuck down here? The paper said that you were still in tunnel" Sam said.

“When did you see a paper? You were trapped down here, too” he said.

“I was, but then a rescuer pulled me out and dad took me back to Rose Lawn”

“You've been at Rose Lawn this whole time? Wait? What? Dad's in town?”

“Yes and yes, I don’t know why he’s here. I was so worried about you. Now, why the **** did you stay down here?”

“It doesn't even matter. It doesn't --”

“Well, it matters to me, ok? It matters to me, because you happen to be my brother and the only person that I can count on. I mean, who's going to take care of me whenever something --” she stopped, “You thought I was still down here and you stayed here to save me”

“I promised I'd always come get you” he said.

“And you always will. I love you so much”

******

At Phoenix and Linsey’s place, the both of them walked in and Phoenix turned on the lights as it was getting dark outside. Once the lights were turned on, Linsey slowly walked over to the couch and sat down.

“Hey are you okay?” Phoenix asked.

She turned her head to look at him, “Yeah, I’m fine” she said smiling at him.

“Is there anything I can get you? Ice Cream? Pickles? Anything you’re craving for?”

Linsey just laughed, “Actually, I’m craving for some Ice Cream”

“Okay, I’ll get some” Phoenix said and walked into the kitchen. He opened the freezer and saw the small variety that was in there, “Linsey, we have strawberry, vanilla, and sherbet. Which one do you want?” he shouted to her from the kitchen.

“Vanillas find” she called out to him.

******

Brad was on his way to Monica’s room when he saw his wife’s cousin sitting in the waiting area, “Robin. Hi” he said as he walked into the waiting area.

“Hey” Robin said turning to look at Brad. She then stood up.

“Welcome back” he said and lightly gave her a hug. He was careful not to touch her right arm that was still in a sling.

“It's good to see you” she said when he let go of her.

“Yeah, you too. Well, you look good”

“Thank you. You do, too”

“Thank you. Listen, things have been so crazy since the train crash. I haven't got a chance to tell you thank you for saving Anna and her baby. Neither of them would have made it without your help, and I just want you to know I'm so grateful that you just happened to be there. I mean, what is that? Coincidence? Fate? What is that?”

“Monica”

“Monica?” he questioned her not knowing what his wife had to do with her being on the train.

“I actually was down here for an AIDS convention and then decided to go see Monica. Now I’m staying to help Patrick out with his seizures. But I don't think I'm going to get the chance to now”

“What happened?”

“All of the county officials decided that Patrick must be dead and, therefore, it's too risky to send any of the rescue workers down there to, you know, just drag up a corpse”

“I'm sorry” he said sensing that she had feelings for Patrick.

“You think that you'll get over things, you know, leave them far enough behind so that they don't matter anymore. I mean, it's been years since Chris died. He was the only man I’ve ever had a relationship with”

“Yeah” he said knowing a little about the boyfriend who had giving her her HIV, from Monica.

“I can’t have feelings for someone everyone thinks is dead. And I’m sure Patrick even has someone”

“What about you? I mean have you dated anyone since Chris?”

“I gave it a try or two, but no one even came close to what I had with him. I've resigned myself to the fact that no one ever will”

Down in the mine shaft, where Sam and Patrick were at, they were talking, figuring out mostly what was going on with each other, “Ok, I don't remember a lot when I was kind of flipping out, but the one thing that I’ll always remember is you looking at me like I was a complete stranger when I pulled you out of the water. Not knowing who I was felt like the bottom dropped out of my whole world, because you were the one person that I could always count on. Suddenly you were unavailable to me in a way that I just couldn't understand, back there. So please tell me, what changed in just those last 24 hours that made you want to start walking around these godforsaken mines to find me? What's happing to you?” Sam asked him.

“There's something wrong with my brain. You know, I've been having these bad headaches, and I've been having these seizures. I can’t remember anything from 10 years ago”

“You're obviously better” Sam said worried about her brother.

“Well -- yeah, I just -- you know, I keep having flashes of people and certain times"

“Are you getting medical attention?”

“That’s actually why I’m down here, the hospital was sending me to a hospital here, I forgot the name, which has the best surgeon for a similar case like mine. And Robin had some experimental drug with her on the train. I've had one shot so far, and it seemed to help”

“Robin? Who she?”

“Think she said that she was Monica’s cousin”

“Oh! I remember her when I went to Brad and Monica’s wedding. So she treated you?”

“I doubt I'm going to be cured after one shot. But I won’t forget you, Sam. I promise”

******

“I know it's pointless, but I just -- I can't get out of the "what if" trap. You know, what if I never met Chris? What if I had protected *** with him? Then I would’ve never gotten HIV. Then I wouldn’t be too scared to take chances with other men” Robin said.

“Are you saying that you regret what you did?” Brad asked her.

“I did the right thing, but for the wrong reason. I did it because I loved him, but I also managed to get myself infected in the meantime. You know, it broke my heart when Chris died, in a way that will never heal, proving love can be damaged beyond repair”

“Ooh. Don't I know that one”

“Yeah? What happened with you and Monica? I mean you guys seem kind of distant”

“Oh, no were great, well I think we are. We don’t really like showing are affection in front of others. It’s probably because I hide her from the press that I’m always around. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to her. It's also maybe because of what happen with Talinda. She’s been blaming herself over miss diagnosing Talinda, thinking she caused her death”

“Hmm. At least she's got you there to help her through it”

“Yeah, she does, and I -- and I don’t know how to help her. I don't know what to do for her”

******

“Umm. That was really good” Linsey said after she finished her ice cream and set the bowl on the coffee table that was in front of her.

“It sure was” Phoenix said setting his bowl that he had on the coffee table too. He then put his arm around her. Linsey then rested her head on his shoulder, “Now that were going to be having a baby, we’re going to need to get a room ready for him or her”

“I know. But we don’t have to do it really soon. I’m not that far along anyways” she said turning her head up a little to look at him, “You’re going to be there for the ultrasound, are you?” she asked.

“Of course so. I wouldn’t miss it for the world, Linsey”

“I love you”

“I love you, too” he said and slightly leaned down giving her a light kiss.

At the police station, the commissioner picked up the newest file on his desk and opened it up. When he saw that his daughters name was on it he look towards the interrogation rooms. He then closed the folder, setting it back on his desk and walked to the interrogation room, opening the door.

Jen was sitting at the table with the hand cuffs attached to the table. She’d looked up and saw her dad standing in the doorway, “Come on, dad, I will pay any bail that you set. Just let me go back into the tunnel before they seal it up. Please!” she said.

“Jen, the report says that you've been arrested for assaulting a cop. You're not going anywhere until I talk to the arresting officer” he said and saw the detective who arrested her walking up to him, “Lopez, why is Jennifer in the interrogation room?”

“The assault charge is an excuse. We had to bring her into custody. Otherwise, she would’ve ran into the tunnel after Patrick”

“Awe. I thought you be here. I heard you were in trouble. I thought I could be helpful” A woman said walking up to them as Jen was taken out of the interrogation room.

Jen laughed slightly to herself not wanting to deal with this person since she didn’t know her, “All right, look, I am in an urgent situation here, so I don't have time to question your motives. But let's just say that I will do whatever it takes if you get me out of here, ok?”

“No doubt about that. I need more than your word” the woman said. She took out a piece of paper and handed to Jen who still was in hand cuffs.

“What is this? What is this? And who are you?” Jen questioned.

“I’m Patrick and Samantha’s aunt. This is a legally binding agreement between you and me. In return for me getting you released, you agree to waive any and all rights you have over Patrick. In the unlikely event that he has made a will, you are turning over his inheritance to me” she said.

Jen couldn’t believe the woman and threw the agreement on the floor. She then moved her hands up and slapped her.

“Do you remember the apartment you moved in when you first moved out of mom and dads and anything that happened there?” Sam asked.

“Not really” Patrick said as he picked up a crate and started stacking them up so he and Sam could get out of the mine shaft.

“What do you remember, Patrick?” she asked as he picked up another one.

He then stacked it on top of the other one and turned to look at her, “I remember that your one very complicated person”

“Ok, thanks” she said sarcastically.

“It's true” he said as he continued stacking.

“Ok, do you remember the first Christmas away from home? I gave you a key chain?" Patrick shook his head, "Ok, how about the Christmas when I was pregnant with Draven”

“I remember you with Draven. You're a good mom -- protective, loving, fun -- all those things” he said remember his nephew, “I know you still love Chester”

“Yeah, I still do. But with my breakdown it stopped us from getting married again, but I think you knew that. Did you?” she asked and Patrick shook his head, “I wish I could get better faster and go home to them. But I know I still got something’s to work on”

“I know that you and Chester love each other a lot, and I know you guys fought like crazy, you know, when things were bad to overcome, but --” he stopped stacking and turned to look back at her again.

“Yes?”

“You know, I remember that you had your own life. Sam, you had goals, you knew who you were and what you wanted apart from Chester”

“So you think we shouldn’t get married again?”

******

Back at the police station, the woman Jen just slapped was shocked by what she just did, “Uh -- of course I'm pressing charges. I want her locked up” the woman who claimed to be Patrick and Sam’s aunt said.

“Oh, come on. What makes you think I have any of Patrick's money? For *** sakes I don’t even really know the man. You're must really be even more of a monster than people say you probably are -- trying to get control of your nephew’s money, and he's not even dead yet”

“He has been blown to smithereens. And as far as I'm concerned, good riddance. He has been an embarrassment to the Cardossa family for years and years. The only thing that he has managed to do that's any good at all is amass a fortune, which could certainly do my family a lot of good right about now” the woman said. Robin then came walking into the police station and walked up to the commissioner when she saw him.

“I got your call. What's going on?” she asked.

“Jen got herself arrested for trying to go back into the tunnel for Patrick. I can’t release her into my custody, I’m still working. And I don't want to have to lock her up, but I can't leave her free to go back in there, you know, and endanger herself and others in a hazardous area”

“Well, release her into my custody. I'll vouch for her” Robin said.

“I'm happy you said that. I'll start the paperwork. Uncuff her” the commissioner said signaling for detective Lopez to uncuff Jen.

“You're letting her go?” the woman said outraged by what the commissioner was doing.

“Quiet, or I'll arrest you for fraud and coercion” he said.

“The mayor is going to hear about this” the woman said and turned around walking way.

Once the cuffs were off, Jen walked up to Robin who was standing in the small waiting room, “All right, I don't care what you say or do, I'm going back into that tunnel”

“I know. I'm going with you” she said.

******

Back at the triage area, D.A. Steve Cooley walked back in, “I just got official confirmation from the mayor's office. Seal off the tunnels, dynamite both entrances, and make sure nobody else goes inside that deathtrap” he said to Andrew who was still at the site.

“Are you really concerned about the regular citizens, or is this your way of making sure Patrick is buried alive?”

******

“Doesn't matter what I think. You do whatever you think is best for you and Chester” Patrick said as he went back to stacking. He picked the last crate and put it on the pile he built.

“Ok, well, you know what? That's exactly what we have in common, because you only seem to do what you want to do, too, unless I really, really need you, and then you help me whether you want to or not. So, how are we doing here?” Sam asked regarding the crates Patrick stacked.

“Well, I'm going to try to climb up, and if I can make it, I'm going to pull you out” he said looking at her.

“And if we don't?”

“I'll just keep trying. And that's something else I remember about you, that you -- you never give up”

“Nope” she said agreeing with him.

“All right” Patrick said and held on to a crate that was at his level. He stopped moving when it shook a little but not much.

“Be careful” she said when it stopped. Patrick nodded and then started to climb up the rest of the crates. He got all the way up to the top and then kneeled down next to the whole.

“You ready?” he called out to her. Sam shook her head and then started to climb up slowly. When she got to the level for Patrick to help her she reached her arm out for him.

“I got you” Patrick said as he took a hold of her hand and started to help her the rest of the way out, “Come on. Pull yourself up”

“Oh” she let out as she did what he told her to do.

“Ah” he slowly stood up as he continued to pull Sam out. When he got her all the way out he grabbed onto her arms, holding her so they wouldn’t fall over.

Once they were steady of themselves, Sam through her arms around her brother’s neck, “We made it” she said happily.

“I have to find Jen. She's probably going nuts” he said when Sam let go of him.

“Ok, well, you know, your girlfriend can wait, because you have got to help me get back to Rose Lawn before they figure out I'm gone”

Chapter 39

It only took Patrick and Sam 15 minutes to get back to Rose Lawn. When they got there they went to the side of the building, “Ok. You have to give me points for creativity for stealing the gardener's truck and finding my way into the triage area” she said when they came up to a brick wall that Sam would have to climb over to get back to her room.

“I'm surprised you even got behind the wheel at all” Patrick said.

“I would have crawled through glass to get to you, ok? And thanks for bringing me here, because there's a really big rock on the other side of that wall. That's how I got out. I just can't get back in” she said.

“Sam, why -- ok, why do you make everything so complicated? I mean, seriously, like this place -- you're here for a reason, and you're breaking out. Would it be so bad if these people would help you? Because you were really sick for a while. If you don't want it to happen again, maybe you should just listen to the doctor once”

“Really? Ok. All right, you know, I'll make you a deal. I'll listen to my doctor if you listen to your doctor, ok? Take Robin's drug. It's going to be worth it if you get better and you never forget me, ok?”

“So, I see -- me getting better is all about Sam?”

“Yeah, yeah, because I happen to really need you. Deal?” she said

“Deal”

“I love you”

“Time to go” Patrick said not wanting to stall her anymore from getting back inside and also him getting back to Jen and Robin.

“Yeah, time to go. Ok”

“Ok, let's get up there first. Ok”

“Hey -- you love me, too, you know”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember that”

“Ok” she said satisfied by what he said.

“Ok. Ready?”

“Yeah” she then put her foot in his awaiting hand. He then boosted her up and Sam grabbed on to the top of the wall. She pulled her leg up and climbed over the wall.

At the hospital, Ravyn finished checking on Anna and Jennifer and was walking back to the nurses’ station. Once she came up to the desk, she drop off Anna’s binder and was about to pick up another patients folder when Patricia stopped her.

“Rav, I have a message for you. He called asking for you while you were checking on Mrs. Shinoda” she said handing her a pink slip with the message on it.

Rav took it from her and looked at it. She frowned when she saw that it was Rob who left the message. There was a number on the slip, so she took out her cell walking into the waiting area and dialed the number. Pressing the send button she put her cell up to her ear. It took about five rings until Rob finally picked up.

“Hello?” he asked, but Ravyn frowned even more by the tone of his voice.

“Rob? Hey, it’s me Ravyn. I’m calling back as you had called me”

“Yeah…Rav I -- I need to see you again…can you come over?”

“Rob I’m still working”

“It’s important…I need your help”

Rav sighed and looked at her watch, “All right. Just give me your address and I’ll be over soon” she said walking back up to the nurses’ station and grabbed a pen writing down the address he gave her. She then hung up and walked over to the elevator, getting in when it opened up.

Back at Rose Lawn, Sam came up to her window and breathed out in relief when the window was still open. She lifted her leg and put it over the edge of the window sill. Bending her body down so she could get in, “Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow. Oh, man. Oh” she said to herself as she pushed herself all the way in. She then set her legs down and walked over to her bed. She was about to scoot her body up against the head of the bed when she noticed that there was mud on the side of her shoes. Lifting one of her legs up, she unzipped the shoe and did the same to the other one, “I hate this thing. Ok. Ok. Oh, calm down. Oh, my ***.” Sam then stuffed them under the bed so no one would notice them. Walking up to her desk she picked up a mirror and checked to see if everything was okay, “Oh, man” she said to herself when she saw that her face was covered with dirt. She sat down in her chair and plucked a couple Kleenexes and started to wipe the dirt off her face. Suddenly the door opened to her room.

“You're here” her father said.

Sam turned to look at him as she continued wiping her face, “Yeah. Where else would I be?”

“I know you ran away. Where did you go? I have had men all over town looking for you. I have been worried out of my mind. And judging from the looks of you, I was right to be. Did you go back to the tunnel?”

Sam didn’t even get a chance to respond back to her dad, because her mom suddenly came into the room, “There's my little girl” Lily, her mom said.

“Hey”

“I had to see for myself that you're all right” Lily said.

“Oh, I just need a big old hug from my mom” Sam said and her mom gave her a hug.

“Oh, you are getting better, aren't you?” Lily asked when she pulled away from her daughter.

“I am. I am”

“I missed you so much” Lily said putting her hand on the side of Sam’s face that was semi-cleaned and then pulled it away.

“I missed you, too. But you know what? Right now I'm so tired. I just get weak, you know, easily, and I was wondering if maybe you and dad can come back another time” she said faking a yawn.

“Shh, shh, shh. Whatever's best for you”

“Ok”

“We're not done” her father said.

“You heard her, John. Sam needs her rest. Let's go” Lily said walking up to the door.

“We can, you know, discuss this another time” she said to her father.

“All right. I'll see you” John said and then turned around walking towards the door.

“Bye” Sam said and her father walked out closing the door behind him. Sam sat in her chair for about two more minutes making sure her parents were really gone. She then got up and walked over to the nightstand and opened up a small chest pulling out a cell phone. She opened it up dialing a number, “Hi there. This is Samantha Bennington. Yes, I would like to schedule an appointment”

******

About 30 minutes later after leaving the hospital, Rav pulled up to Rob’s. She got out and walked up to the front door. After ringing the door bell, she stood outside for a few minutes ‘He wants me to come over but he doesn’t answer the **** door. What the **** is going on?’ She rang the door bell again, still there was no respond. Then she went to knock on the door, but when her fist touched the door, it pushed open ‘Okay.’ She pushed the door open a little more and poked her head in, “Rob?” she called out. Nothing came in respond so she stepped into the house and softly pushed the door close but not closing it all the way.

“Rob?” she called out again walking further into the house. Still no responds from Rob came at all which started worrying her. Did something happen to him? Did he commit suicide to be with his dead wife? Those were some of the questions that ran through her head. She looked to her right and saw a doorway that led to another room. Slowly walking up to the door, she was afraid of what she would find. But she kept walking anyways.

When she reached the door, she stood by the doorframe and looked into the room seeing that it was the living room. She was shocked to see the room a mess. There were a couple picture frames on the floor and glass from the picture frames. Every knick knack that was in the room was on the floor, even a couple lamps. There were pieces of papers spread out on the floor. Rav was in complete shock.

Suddenly the sound of someone crying broke her state of shock. It was coming inside the room. She carefully walked into the room hearing the glass crunching under her shoes. She walked to the farthest corner in the room. Rob was sitting there with his legs drawn up and his head bent down crying his heart out.

“Rob?” Rav called out softly as she got closer to Rob. She slowly knelt beside him softly touching his shoulder.

Rob slowly lifted his head up, looking at her, “Talinda?”

******

Back at triage, Jen ran into the area and stopped when she saw that everything was clean up. A couple paramedics were just cleaning up the last things that were left around, “We're too late” she said when Robin came walking in and stood next to her.

"Hold on, there's Maddie. Maddie, have all the entrances to the tunnel been closed?” Robin asked her cousin.

“Yeah. Andrew supervised”

“We called out for Patrick. We checked and we double-checked. There was no answer. There was no sign of life. He was already gone” Andrew said walking up to Robin and Jen. Then he walked away and so did Maddie.

“I can't believe this” Robin said to herself.

Patrick walked into the triage area, coming through the entrances to get into the tunnel, “Jen” he called out as Jen wasn’t facing his way.

Jen turned around and her eyes widen when she saw Patrick standing in front of her. She quickly walked up to him and threw her arms around him, “Patrick. Patrick. Oh, ***! Oh!” she said and then pulled away. She touched his face to make sure of herself that it really was him. Robin stood back watching them and was happy that he was really alive, “Is it really you? Oh, my ***. I can't believe it. I feel like I'm -- I was so scared. I was so scared” Jen said.

“I'm sorry. I got back to you as fast as I could” he said.

“How did you get back? How did you find your way through the tunnel?” Jen asked him.

“It's -- it's --” he was cut of as Jen put her arms around him again.

“Oh, ***”

“It's a long story” he said finishing what he started to say.

“Oh!” Jen pulled away from him.

“Hey. Welcome back. We were worried about you” Robin said walking up to them.

“Oh, ***. I'm just so glad that you're alive” Jen said.

“I'd like to keep you that way. So are you ready for me to treat you now?” she asked.

******

Monica was released from the hospital, she left after letting Brad know she was going to see Chester just to see if he heard anything about Patrick. When she got to Chester’s she knocked on his door and then walked in as it was something Chester was use to with the guys always coming in. Monica walked into the living room and found Chester sitting in there holding a beer bottle, “Sorry to bother you. I --” she started to say but Chester cut her off.

“No, no, no, I'm glad you came. I'm just sitting here trying to figure out how to tell Sam about Patrick. Any progress she's made is going to go out the window when she finds out that Patrick's gone”

******

Back at Rose Lawn, Sam was getting ready to leave and was on the phone, “Look, you cannot give my appointment away, ok? That's right, I'm on my way. I will be there in 15 minutes” she said and then hung up. She finished putting her shoe on and then walked up to the window. She open it up and was about to sneak out again, but the door open and there stood her therapist.

“Going somewhere?” Theresa asked Sam.

******

“I remember the first time I met Patrick. It was just after me and Sam got married” Chester said.

“Yeah, what did you think of him”

“That he was okay, you know, but the more I got to know him the more I thought he was cool”

“And he'd thought the same?” Monica asked.

“Yeah” he said and looking at the bottle he was holding, “But, you know, I’ll always be grateful for him buying Sam’s plane ticket to come and be with me out here”

“Yeah” she said, “It looked like he trusted you in those tunnels”

“But I failed Sam by letting Patrick stay in that collapsed tunnel”

“Staying in that tunnel was Patrick's choice. He died doing exactly what he wanted. He wouldn't have had it any other way. And what he would want from us now is for us to go on and -- and take care of the people he loved -- you know, Sam, and Draven”

“Sam -- I still -- I still don't know how I'm going to tell her Patrick's dead”

“Maybe you won't have to” Chester and Monica looked near the door and saw John, Sam’s father standing there.

Awwww - that practically broke my heart! Poor Robbie! Awww, man... grieving so hard, for a moment there I actually did expect the worst, as you said, he had done something impulsive and needed help or a witness - but awww... *snuffle*

As for Sam and Patrick, I am glad she risked all to save him, but I almost laughed at that visual of her sneaking back into her room just in time before her parents walked in back at Rose Lawn. I was like - uh oh! Busted! But still... makes me wonder with all her sneaking in and out how lax the staff/security must be there! 0_o ****, I know she wants to get her life back on track to get back to Chester, if indeed that's the way things work out, but I'm starting to wonder why she wasn't put in a more 'secure' environment in the first place! Haha. Anyway, glad she's relatively okay now. As long as she stays put! XD She's stronger than she gives herself credit for, that's for sure.

All in all, loved it. You know I do. I'm wanting to slap the snot out of the officials there that are giving the others a hard time but then that's natural isn't it? With any tragedy like the one that befell the band the ones who are meant to be in charge why is it they are more concerned with procedure and so forth? This aunt concerns me. Meh. I'm sure things will work out for the best in the long run... but then again... hahaha.

Great work as always. Look forward to more when you get the chance!

*hugs*

Sam sat down on the ledge of the window sill, “I was just, you know, sitting here. It's a beautiful night, and I was looking at the garden and thinking about taking a walk, maybe”

“Hmm. By way of the window?” Theresa asked her.

“I don't like using the hallways. Being around the other patients freaks me out, ok?” she said looking at Theresa.

“Hmm. Well, we just got a really interesting call from the county sheriff. He said that he found a Rose Lawn gardener's truck at the train wreck site, no doubt stolen by the same person who's been climbing over the fence on the south end of the property. Hmm -- and the muddy south end of the property”

“Fine. You caught me, ok? I'm sorry, but I had to go make sure Patrick was ok. He was risking his life for me. Do you understand what that means?”

“I really do admire your courage and your loyalty, Sam. But instead of climbing through windows and stealing vehicles and trying to rescue other people, you need to be focused on your own recovery. The ultimate goal is to get your life back”

“You're right. You're right. I lost sight of the ultimate goal. I did” Sam admitted.

“Well, realizing that is progress in itself. Try to get some sleep, Sam” Theresa said and turned to the door.

“Theresa?” Sam called out. Theresa turned too looked at her, “Thanks -- for everything” Theresa then walked out closing the door behind her. Sam then got off the window sill and took out the cell phone from the small chest, dialing the number, “Hey. We got a change of plans”

“No, Rob it’s me Ravyn” ‘Talinda? Why would he think I was her? Oh, my *** she wasn’t his wife was she?’

“Ravyn? Oh ***. I’m sorry”

“Rob? Why did you think I was Talinda? Was Talinda -- was she --” Rav couldn’t even finished.

“My wife? Yeah, Talinda was my wife” he said as he stretched out his legs.

“But I thought she was with Chester?”

“No, well, yeah they did date each other. She broke up with him, cause of something that happened with Chester, Sam and her. And Talinda knew Chaz still loved Sam” he said and then looked down, “Why? Why didn’t she say something? Why did she have to die?”

“I don’t know, Rob. She probably thought it really wasn’t something serious to worry about”

“I miss her. I want her back, so much. You know, we really never got to go on our honeymoon. We didn’t get to enjoy being married to each other really long. Talinda, why did you have to die?” he said and then broke down in tears again.

“You must be really exhausted. You’re probably running on nothing right now. And I think that says everything about right now” she said looking around the messy living room, “Get some sleep, Rob” he nodded in agreement, “Okay, come on” she added in and helped him up.

“The room is down the hall to the right” Rob said when they stood up. He then put his arm around her shoulder. Rav nodded and they walked carefully out of the living room going down to the last room at the end of the hall. When they reached the room, Rob removed his arm from around Rav and walked further into the room kicking off his shoes as Rav stood by the door. He didn’t even bother to change and threw himself under the covers. He turned his head to look at her. She walked into the room and sat at the edge of the bed. Rob moved his arm out from underneath the covers and took a hold of Rav’s hand lacing his fingers in between her's, “Thanks for helping me out”

“It’s all good. Don’t worry about the living room. I’ll get it for you”

“Thanks” he said. He then let go of her hand and turned on to his side having his back face her.

Rav then got off the bed and walked towards the door. She pulled the door close behind her but not closing it all the way. She walked down the hall and went to the living room. When she reached the living room, she wasn’t sure where to start. So she decided to start with the pieces of paper on the floor. Walking into the room she bent down and picked up a couple of them. She looked down at the couch and nothing was done to it so she sat down. She then flipped the first one over and saw that it wasn’t a paper but it was a picture. Not just an ordinary picture but it was one of Rob and Talinda’s wedding photo proofs. The noise of someone running down the hall made her look up towards the doorframe and saw that it was Rob.

“Matthew. I have to pick up Matthew” he said in a panic voice.

Patrick looked at Robin, “I can't go to the hospital right now. I got to see Chester”

“Patrick, if you don't let me treat you, you're not going to be any good to anyone”

“I'm feeling better”

“Yeah, the medication you gave him -- it worked” Jen said.

“It's going to wear off, Jen. I need to get him started on a full regimen right away”

“It's going to have to wait” he said insisting that he go see Chester.

“Patrick, it can wait. We may already be out of time because you insisted on looking for Sam when she wasn't even there” Robin said.

“I appreciate where you're coming from, but I can't do this right now. I'll be right back” he said and started to walk away.

“Ok” Jen said and was about to follow Patrick but Robin stopped her.

“Jen, you got to work with me on this. I'm the only chance Patrick's got right now” Robin said.

At Chester’s, he looked at his father-in-law well soon-to-be-again father-in-law, “What do you want, John?” he asked.

“I think it's possible that my son could have survived”

“You came here to tell me that?” he asked John wondering what he was up to.

“And that I'm making all my resources available to go back into the tunnel to search for him. The authorities appear to have given up”

“Well, you don't give a **** about finding Patrick. You just want to, you know, look like the big hero in Sam's eyes when she's at her most vulnerable, grieving over the loss of someone who she cared about more than you”

Lights of a car pulling into the drive away shined through the living room. Chester, Monica and even John looked at each other. They all walked towards the door and opened it up, walking out of the house. All of them were shocked to see who was walking towards them.

“Oh, my ***. Patrick” Monica said softly in shock that he actually was alive.

John was to shock to say anything.

“You ok?” Chester asked Patrick when he came up to them.

“Yeah, for the most part”

“You?” Chester asked Jen who was by Patrick’s side.

“Relieved”

“Yeah, me, too” he said glad that he doesn’t have to tell Sam about Patrick anymore.

“We thought you were gone. We --” Monica said.

“How did -- how'd you get out of the tunnel?” Chester asked.

“Chester, that can wait. We’ve got a problem”

******

Rav set the photos aside and got off the couch, “Matthew? Who's Matthew and why do you have to get him?” she asked him.

“Matthew. He’s my step-son. Talinda’s son. I need to pick him up I can’t leave him with my parents. I have to be a father figure to him….” He said and started rambling off.

“Rob!” she said snapping him out of the state he was in.

“Huh?”

“Go get him” she said smiling at him.

“I want you to come with me”

“All the way to Calabasas?”

“Uh, yeah” he said confused how she knew but he didn’t question it further.

Rav was hesitant in agreeing to go with him. What if his parents thought they were dating? They probably think Rob was crazy for rushing into another relationship not too long after losing his wife, “What if your parents --” but she was cut off.

“Oh **** my parents. I hope they haven't been seeing the news” he said as he turned around and ran into the kitchen. She knew that he was off calling his parents. She stayed standing in the living room and turned her head to look at the stack of pictures she had set on the couch. She looked back up when she heard footsteps walking back, “Would you still like to come with me?”

“Sure. Everything okay though?” she asked regarding his parents.

“Yeah, my mom is relieved that I’m okay. She’s getting Matthew’s stuff ready right now. So we can go”

“Okay” she then walked up to him and they walked out of the house.

“Has there been an update on Hector? Is he alive? What's going on?” Patrick asked once his father was gone.

“They got him to the hospital, saved his life” Patrick raised his eyebrows. Chester then raised a hand up, “Ok, don't ask me why. He managed to escape. But you know what? How far can he get? You hurt him pretty bad”

“Yeah, not bad enough. Look, I'm worried about Sam. I'm afraid that she's going to make herself an easy target for Hector to get. She's already figured out how to get in and out of Rose Lawn. She's treating that place like a hotel”

“Well, it sounds like she's back to her old self. That's good”

“No, it's not good. Not right”

“What do you mean, "Not good"?” he asked and then he saw Patrick holding his forehead, “You all right?” Patrick felt dizzy and stumble back a little and grabbed onto the ledge of the couch.

Jen grabbed his arm to help him say steady, “Hey, hey, hey, hey. You in pain? Another headache?” she asked.

“Yeah” he said

“Haven't you been checked out by a doctor?” Monica asked worried for him.

“Well, Robin begged Patrick to start her experimental drug treatment, but --” she said but was cut off.

“You came here first. Consider me warned. You need to take care of yourself, Patrick” Chester said.

“Patrick, please, just listen to him. Let Robin help you. Do it for the people who love you” Monica said.

At Rose Lawn, Sam was in her room when there was a knock on the door. She knew who it was. So she walked up to the door and opened it revealing three women holding black dress bags.

“Hey” one of the women said as Sam moved back and let them in.

“Hey!”

“Hey” another woman said as she walked over to the bed setting the bags down.

“Hi, guys! Come on in! Thanks. You can just get the door” she said to the last woman who walked in. The woman closed the door behind her and then set her bag down on the bed.

Sam sat down at her desk as the women’s got there stuff out to use, “All right, people. You guys are the best in the business. You know why you're here. You need to make me fabulous. I only got one chance at this” And then they got down to business.

******

At the hospital, Robin opened the door to a vacant hospital room and turned to face Patrick as he walked in with Jen behind him, “I was so relieved when you called and said you were coming. I was scared that you wouldn’t. Thank you for agreeing to do this. Ok. First up, the treatment is experimental, so I need you to sign this release form” she said and handed him a clip board with the release form on it.

Patrick took a hold of the clip board and the pen Robin handed him. He was hesitant in signing his name, “What should I expect?”

“First, I'll start you on an I.V. Drip. You'll become sleepy, a little disoriented, but that just means that the medication's working”

Patrick signed his name on the dotted line and then handed the clip board back to Robin. He looked at the hospital bed and saw that there were restraints on them, “I don't want restraints. I --” he didn’t get to finish cause Robin cut him off.

“Patrick, I'm sorry, it's not an option. We have to use them for your protection. Ok, I'll be right back” she said and then walked out of the room closing the door.

Jen looked at Patrick as he faced her, “I know that you must hate this. And I want you to know that if I could do it for you, I would in a second”

“I know” A lot had changed between them since the crash.

“Just remember, when this procedure or whatever is over and your seizures and your headaches -- they go away, and you get well again -- we can focus on our future together”

“Yeah, there's something I need to ask you before -- before all this happens” he said and pulled out something from his pocket, “Will you marry me?” he held the ring out for her to see.

Sorry its taken me a while to get back to you, so many stories to keep track of and write too! Haha, but its all good.

Aww wow, that propsal was so sweet! I was like 'oh!' after all that hardship and all the trauma and near death and the renewal of life and like all of it, it was just a sweet way to tie that all together. And aww, I cant say that enough... Rob rushing off to play dad to Talinda's little boy (and now his step son) was sweet. Sam getting herself back on track. Yeah. Just, yeah. I don't know what else to say just loved it as usual.

Wish this was a telemovie or like a daytime soap or something! XD That's how I see it develop in my head anway! Bravo!

Eagerly await next update. Something tells me Hector (that SOB) is still a danger... even if it's indirectly. Maybe I'm just paranoid now! XD Looking forward to more!

******

About an hour later after the girls showed up at Sam’s room, Sam picked a mirror up and looked at herself, “Wow, you guys are amazing. I'm beginning to look like me”

At the Bennington’s, Chester sat down on the couch after he went and got Draven to come so he could talk to him, “Got some good news” he said when Draven came into the room.

“Mm-hmm?” he said when he sat down next to his dad.

“Patrick’s fine” Chester said. He had sat Draven down when he got home and told him about his uncle.

“I could tell you were worried about him” the little boy said.

“Oh, yeah, well, you know, he -- a lot of people thought he wasn't going to get out of that tunnel. But you know what?”

“What?”

“He did” Chester smiled down at his son.

“Mm-hmm”

“But he's still not quite fine, so you still need to pray for him, ok?”

“He's one of the first people that I prayed for -- you know, after you and mom. She seems to be a lot better. When can I visit again?” he asked.

“What do you mean?” Chester questioned.

“Grandpa took me”

“To Rose Lawn?”

“Yeah”

“Really? Ok -- here -- I'm going to call the doctors and check to see when you can visit, ok? And -- but in the meantime, you'd better get upstairs and go to sleep, ok?”

“Ok” he said and got off the couch and then gave his dad a hug.

“Ahem. Yeah, come on, Draven” Leticia said as she came downstairs with Draven.

“I'll be up to say good night, all right?”

“Ok” Draven want up to Leticia and the both of them went upstairs.

“Ok” Chester said. He then got up and walked into the kitchen picking up the phone dialing Theresa’s number.

“Dr. Winters” she said when she picked up.

“Why wasn't I told that John brought my son to Rose Lawn? What is he doing anywhere near Sam?

“John Cardossa is Sam’s father, Chester. He has the right to see her”

“Ok, is there something going on over there that I don't know about? Theresa?

“Sam's been sneaking out, but we've addressed the matter. She understands that breaking the rules is counterproductive and undermines her treatment. The situation is under control” she said.

“Don't bet on it” he said knowing his fiancée.

Back at Rose Lawn, Sam was finished with the girls and lifted the mirror from her desk again, “Its showtime” she said.

******

Back at the hospital, Jen looked at Patrick not sure if he was serious about the proposal, “Why do you want to marry me? Why now?”

“I just -- I just want to hear you say that you will, so I can carry it with me into -- to whatever happens. I want to spend my life with you, whatever that turns out to be. And I can't make any of the promises that I should. I don't know if we’ll be able to have kids or how many years we're going to have to spend together, but I do know I love you and will love you for as long as I live”

“All of my life I have been chasing for something that was so out of reach. And then I found you. It was you. Yes. Yes, I will marry you” she said smiling through her tears.

“I -- I had this ring with me for a while. I knew when I met you that there was something special about you. I was going to give it to you as soon as I got out of the tunnel and -- and tell you that I was going to go a head with Robin’s treatments”

“You had the engagement ring with you in that tunnel?” But why would he have the ring with him when he hadn’t even met her yet? Maybe it was fate telling him that the person he would spend the rest of his life with would be on the train.

“Yeah. When I woke up after the explosion, it was dark and quiet, and I knew that I was trapped. I was just lying there for a minute trying to figure out what to do, but then I felt this ring box, and I remembered that I had to give it to you”

“No one would understand this. But you are the most romantic man that I have ever met in my entire life” she said. Patrick took a hold of her hand and placed the ring on her left ring finger.

“Is it ok?”

“Yeah” she said looking at the ring, “It's beautiful…It's exactly what I would have picked” she then grabbed both his hands, “I promise to love you, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, for as long as we live”

“For richer or for poorer, for better, for worse -- in sickness -- and health --”

“Yeah”

“With all that I am -- and all that I have” he said finishing, “I love you” he added in and then leaned down and gave her a light kiss. There first kiss to be exact. A knock on the door made them pull away and they turned and saw that it was Robin. She hand Patrick a hospital gown and had him put it on. After he did and got into the hospital bed, Robin started the treatment.

“I'm sorry, I know that this is difficult, but I have to put on the restraints now” she said after she hooked him up with the I.V. Drip.

“Are they -- are they really necessary?” he asked. More like begging Robin to not do it.

“Not taking this precaution would be really irresponsible” she said feeling sorry that she had to tie him down to the bed.

“I don't understand. What do you expect Patrick to do?” Jen asked.

“We don't want him walking around in a semiconscious, dreamlike state with his body full of a powerful drug. I have to be able to control the situation”

“All right. But let Jen do it” Patrick said. Jen rub the tears away and grabbed the restraints and carefully put them on Patrick’s wrist. She then did the second one.

“I'm going to stay right here, ok? I'm not going to go anywhere” she said when she finished she put her hand on the side of his face, “I love you. I love you so much”

******

“I don't agree with this visit, Chester. It'll only upset Sam and cause a setback” Theresa said as she followed Chester walking to Sam’s room. He came down to check on her and see her for himself.

Chester stopped walking when he reached Sam’s door and turned to face Theresa, “But you -- but it's all right for John to see her, to fill her head with a bunch of garbage?” He really never like Sam’s father, especially even more since her breakdown. It was because of what happen between Sam’s parents. And Sam feeling like she couldn’t trust her father to tell him about her rape.

“I wish you'd do this my way. I think I had a real breakthrough with Sam tonight”

“What happened?”

“I made her understand that the road to recovery is long and it's hard and it demands her entire focus. She was very reasonable”

“Yeah, let me give you just a little word of advice. When Sam seems reasonable, it usually means she's shining you on” he said and then turned to open the door. He step in and saw a woman zipping up a black dress bag.

“Hello” the woman said turning to look at him.

“Where's Sam?” he asked.

“Oh, she said it was showtime and left” the woman said like it wasn’t a problem.

“Were here” Rob said when he pulled up next to the curb. He shut the car off and took the key out of the ignition. He then turned to look at Rav glad that she had came with him. She gave him a light smile for reassures. Rob then got out of the car and walked around going up to the sidewalk as Rav got out. He stood there and waited for her to close the car door. When she did they walked up to the front door of Rob’s parents’ house. Not too long after ringing the door bell, Rob’s mom Patty opened the door and was happy to see Rob. She hugged her son and was surprise to not see Talinda with him when she saw Rav standing on the porch.

“Ooh. I’m so glad you’re okay. Come in. Matthew’s already” Patty said when she let go of Rob and moved to the side letting Rob and Rav in, “Where’s Talinda at?” she asked Rob when they went into the living room. Rob froze at the entry into the living room and looked down, not knowing how he was going to tell his mom that her daughter-in-law was dead, “Did something happen between the two of you?” Patty asked when he didn’t answer her the first time.

“No…no nothing happened…um, mom there something I need to tell you” he said. He then walked further into the living room and sat down on the couch. Rav followed him and sat next to him taking a hold of his hand to let him know that she was here for him. Patty saw that, as she sat down on the second couch that was in front of Rob and Rav. Rob took a deep breath before he started, “You know that Talinda and I were on the train together as a part of a wedding gift from Brad and Monica to take us to the airport. And you know that there was a crash…”

“Mm-hmm”

“Uh…uh” he felt like he couldn’t finish as he felt his eyes watering up. He felt Rav give him a reassuring squeeze, “When the crash happen Talinda…Talinda, she…she got injured…”

“Oh, my ***. Rob I’m so sorry” Patty said moving from the couch she was sitting on and sat on the other side of Rob putting her hands on his face. She kind of had an ideal of what happen.

“She died…as the -- as the rescue team came” he said and then moved his hand out of Rav’s hand and rested his arms on his legs covering his hands with his face and cried out. Both Rav and Patty put one hand on Rob’s back to comfort him. Rav then moved her hand away and let Patty do the rest. Patty wrapped an arm around him and moved him closer to her, letting Rob rest his head on her shoulder as he continued to cry out.

“It’s okay, Rob. That's it, let it all out” Patty said as she moved her arm up and ran her hand through his hair. After a couple minutes he seemed to calm down and moved away from his mom and sat up.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do without her, mom” he said wiping his tears off his face.

“Rob, listen to me” she said putting her hand on the side of his face, making him look at her, “The best you could do for Talinda is be there for her son. Raise him like he is your own. Matthew is the only thing left of Talinda. You’ve got to do that for her. She would be proud that you did that for her” she paused looking at her son as he slightly nodded, “I hate to ask you this, but have you started making funeral arrangements for her?”

Rob shook his head, “I’ll start them tomorrow”

“If you need help with arranging it, don’t hesitate to call me and your dad, you know”

“Yeah” he nodded, “Is Matthew asleep?”

“Yeah. He’s up in your old room”

Rob got up off the couch and turn to face Rav, “I want you to meet him” he said and held out his hand to help her up. She took a hold of his hand and got up with Rob’s help. Rob let go of her right hand and then took a hold of her left hand when he turn back to face his mom, “I’m sorry mom. I didn’t introduce Rav. Mom this is Ravyn. Rav this is my mom, Patty” Patty stood up and held her hand out and shook her hand when Rav held her’s out.

“Nice to meet you. So where you two meet at?” she asked letting go of Rav’s hand surprised that her son had already moved on.

Rob made a sound like he was choking knowing what his mom meant, “Where not dating mom. She’s just helping me out”

“We met at the hospital I work at. He came in with the rest of the group he was on the train with” Rav said.

“Sorry that I jump to the wrong conclusion. Go ahead on up and get Matthew”

Rob then walked out of the living room with Rav and over to the stairs case. They then walked up them. When they reached the top, Rob led her to his old room where the door was ajar. He let go of her hand, pushing the door open further and walked in. She followed him in a little bit but still stood by the door and watched him walk over to a crib, that must have been Rob’s, where Matthew was sleeping. Rob leaned over the railing and carefully picked up the sleeping infant putting him in his arms. He then reached into the crib and picked up the light blanket and put it under Matthew covering him up. Matthew then made some soft noise as he slowly woke up, “Hey there a little man. Shh, shh, shh it’s okay. Everything’s going to be okay. It’s just going to be you and me now. But don’t worry, your mom loved you very much” he softly said to the baby who just cooed back with his big brown eyes. Rob turned to face Rav, “Rav I would like you to meet Talinda’s son Matthew”

Chester walked into his house after coming from Rose Lawn. He walked into the living room and froze. He saw that Sam and Draven were sitting on the couch playing with something.

“Dad!” Draven said when he looked up and Sam did too. He got off the couch and went over to his dad happily hugging him.

“Hey” he hugged Draven back surprised to see Sam here. Why was she here?

“Look -- mom's home. Doesn't she look beautiful?” he said when he let go of his dad looking at his mom.

Sam then stood up and smiled at Chester, “Are you going to come kiss me hello?”

OMG! Sam!! What the **** is she doing?!? :O

Rob nursing Matthew made me all misty, that was just so sentimentally sweet, but as for his mum assuming he had already moved on - I was like, what?! That's just so wrong! I don't care if this is Rob Bourdon we're talking about, moving in on him when he hasn't even had time to grieve is just wrong! But glad to see he has made a friend through this, and that he isn't alone.

Patrick and Jen was just adorable... well, prior to the whole starting treatment anyway. But yeah, here's to the romantic in all of us! *salutes you*

I just wanna know what Sam's game is... obviously she wants Chas/her family back but at what cost I wonder???

0_o

Can't wait for more. And have no fear I'm not bored with your story in the least! I love it!!! It's the lighthearted Yin to my darkened Yang, story wise XD

Cool!

*hugs*

Eagerly await more when you get around to it.

Chapter 42

Just a head up any italic used in Patrick, Jen and Robin scene is Patrick remembering something.

******

At the hospital, Robin stayed to talk to Jen so she know what would be happening with Patrick, “Patrick will be in and out of consciousness for the next few days. He'll be weak and disoriented. There will be a lot of brain activity --”

“Ok, from what, dreams?” Jen asked.

“Or memories, subconscious thoughts and desires coming up. It could get intense”

Jen turned her head looking at Patrick, “Thank you for the warning” she said looking back at Robin. Robin then picked up Patrick’s binder off his tray table and walked over to the door. Jen moved closer to the side of Patrick’s bed.

“You're here”

“Where else would I be?” Patrick looked at the woman so familiar to him.

“Well, since the coffee shop is closed? Not sure”

“Robin” Patrick called out. Robin looked over to him as she was standing in the door looking at his binder. She then put it on the door and was about to walk away.

Jen turned to look at Robin, “Wait, Robin, Robin, don't go. Patrick's calling you”

******

Draven turned to look at his mom after she said that and lightly laughed, “It's ok” he then turned to face Chester, “Go ahead, I won't say it's gross. What? Aren't you glad that mom’s home?” he asked when his dad didn’t move.

“Of course” he said and then lightly squeezed Draven’s shoulder. He then walked up to Sam, “Hi” he said and then gave her a light kiss. Sam put her hands on his face when his lips touched hers wanting the kiss to go further. Chester then let go and pulled her into a hug. Sam returned the hug and rested her chin on his shoulder smiling at Draven, but more so that her plan was working. She then let go of Chester and smiled at him.

“You're full of surprises, as usual”

“Wouldn’t want anyone to get bored” she said still smiling.

“No chance of that” then he lowered his voice, “What are you doing here?”

Sam was shocked, but didn’t show it, “What about ‘hey, Sam, glad to see you’ ?”

“Yeah, well --”

“ ‘You look amazing’ ?”

“I’ll get to that, but I just need to figure out what’s going on here”

She looked at the couch and then back at Chester, “I was released”

“For tonight?”

“No. For good. Yeah, for good. I managed to convince those doctors at Rose Lawn that being here with my family is what’s going to make me better. And Draven…” she said walking passed Chester going over to Draven, “...was just about to fill me in on everything that’s been going on since I’ve been gone, huh?” she kneel down.

“Well, school’s good”

“Yeah, bet you can’t wait for summer?” she smiled. Chester turned around.

“Well, I’m already on summer vacation, so we have a lot of time to hang out”

“Yeah!” Sam said excitedly.

“You’re not going back to Rose Lawn, right?”

“I hate to interrupt the reunion, but Draven, it’s past his bedtime” he said before Sam could say anything to Draven about not going back to Rose Lawn.

“Dad. Mom just got here” he said wanting to spend time with his mom.

Sam stood up, “Nope. Nope. Not going to argue with your father. We’re not going to change the schedule now that I’m home. Come on. I have been looking forward to tucking you in for weeks” she grabbed his hand walking over to some small steps to get to the stairs.

“I don't even feel tired” Draven said as they walked up the small steps. As they walked up them Sam looked at Chester and then continued going over to the main stairs.

******

Rav wiped some tears that over spilled from her eyes after hearing Rob talk to his step-son. She slowly walked up to him and looked down at Matthew, “He’s a beautiful baby” she looked up at him, “He’s not yours?” she asked remembering him saying that he was his step-son.

“No, he’s not. He’s Talinda's and her first husband's child”

“I bet you're worried that he’ll take Matthew away from you. Does he have custody?”

“He can’t” he said looking down at Matthew.

Rav gave him a confused look, “What do you mean?”

He looked at the bed and sat down at the end, being careful not to wake up Matthew who was starting to fall back asleep. He then looked back up at Rav, “His real father…he's dead too”

“Oh, my ***…do you know when? Had to be while Talinda was pregnant”

“No…uh, she told me that he died in 2003” He said knowing it was going to confused her. It confused him to when she told him it wasn’t Chester’s baby like Sam thought…

“Then how'd she’d get pregnant? That's impossible to get pregnant from someone who’s dead. Wait…unless she went through artificial insemination” she said as she sat down next to Rob as all this information was just to much.

“She did. She told me that they always wanted kids, but they couldn’t cause her husband got sick with cancer. Matthew, her husband, who she named her son after, gave her permission to have his kids after he died”

“Poor little guy. At least he has you. It would suck if he was orphaned” she said as she looked over at the baby.

“Yeah it would” he said as he looked down too.

“Will you tell Matthew the truth when he gets older? That your not really his?” She looked back up at Rob as he looked up to.

“Of course I will. I won’t denied him of his real parents. He’ll especially know about Talinda cause of some picture I --, you know, I may keep in picture frames. Though I don’t know if Talinda has any pictures of his father. Maybe I’ll find some when -- when I -- I have to move her stuff”

“Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to bring that up”

“No it’s fine.” They sat there in silence for a little bit. Rob then turned slightly to face her, “Would you like to hold him?”

“Uh, yeah sure” she turned slightly to face him. He slightly got up and leaned forward.

Feeling the shift from leaving Rob’s arms and going into someone else’s made Matthew fuss a little, “Shh, shh, shh. It’s okay” Rob said as he slowly placed Matthew in Rav’s arms.

He stopped fussing once he was in her arms. Rav slightly moved him a little so that he was more comfortable in her arms. Rob stood up and watched her hold Matthew. He turn and saw his mom standing in the doorway and slowly walked over to her, “He’s okay to go now? I don’t have to worry about changing him or giving him a bottle, do I?”

“Nope. He should be fine till you get home” his mom said.

“Thanks for everything mom” he walked over to Rav, “It looks like where ready to go. Do you want me to take him from you?”

“No, I’m fine. It’ll help you not having to pass him back to me when you have to get the carseat set up” she said as she got off the bed.

Rob nodded and then grabbed Matthew’s diaper bag putting it on his shoulder. Along with that he picked up another bag that was filled with his baby clothes and the carseat that his mom put in his room when she got Matthew’s stuff ready. After picking up the bags and carseat, he started walking out of the room, down the stairs, out of the house and up to his car as Rav followed him.

Robin walked up to Patrick‘s bed, “Patrick? It's Robin. Can you hear me?” Patrick was still turning around as he was still out of it. Patrick’s monitor then started to alarm as his heart rate was increasing.

“Is this supposed to be happening?” Jen asked after looking at his monitor.

“Yes. It just means that the medicine's working” she said. Then the noise stopped.

“Doing what, exactly?”

“Triggering memories”

“What kind of a memory? Good, bad, what?”

“Both. According to my research, almost always out of chronological context. The memories associated with the strongest emotions tend to surface first”

“Ok, you said the drug would make Patrick disoriented, but it's like he's in some awful kind of dream or something. I don't like this, Robin. I don't like it at all” she said as she saw that he was turning around.

“I'm sorry. That's exactly what's happening” Robin said and Patrick turned his head again and stopped.

Gun shots started going off. He saw himself jump over the front of a car and landed on the ground turning over onto his stomach.

“When you were telling Patrick what to expect, you were leaving something out. It was this, wasn't it?”

Robin looked at Patrick as he turned his head again, “You might as well brace yourself. It could get a lot worse” Jen then turned to look at Patrick.

Robin walked up to Patrick's monitor, “So you lied to Patrick about this treatment. Isn't that unethical or something?” Jen asked facing her.

Robin turned around to face Jen, “No, I downplayed the level of intensity”

“And that's ok with you?”

“The ends will justify the means”

“So -- so tying him down in restraints was a necessity, not a precaution, correct?”

“That's right, yes”

“Yeah, ok, ok, well, I'm really confused right now, because, a, I believed in your treatment, I convinced Patrick to believe in your treatment, and now I don't know whether to trust you or not. I don't know if you're being honest”

“Of course I hope I can save Patrick's life. That's what I'm trying to do. Look, I told you before that this medication was experimental” then turned to face Patrick, “There is no guarantee it will work. All I know is it's his best chance right now”

Sam sat at the edge of Draven’s bed after finishing putting him in his bed. She then look down at him as Chester walked into the room, “Ok. Wow, it sure is a special night. Where all home and happy”

“It sure is a special night” Chester said when he walked over to the bed. Sam looked over her shoulder and smiled and then looked back at Draven.

“Can we make a wish like you used to when I was little?” Draven asked.

“Yeah” she then turned her head to look at Chester, “You want to help?”

“No, no, you go ahead and start” he said.

“Ok. Starlight, star bright, of all the stars I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might let Draven have the wish --”

“Dad, your turn” Draven said wanting his dad to finished it.

“Let Draven have the wish he wish tonight” he said as he sat down behind Sam and looked at her when she turned her head again to look at him. He then looked at Draven, “Is that right?” he asked.

Draven giggled a little, “Perfect.” Sam then turned her head and looked back at Draven.

“All right, don't let the bed bugs bite” Chester said.

He laughed at that, “Ok.” Chester then got up off the bed and walked to the door.

Sam then leaned down and kissed Draven’s forehead, “I love you” she stood up.

“You, too” he said. Sam reached over and turned off the lamp on the nightstand. She stood there for a few seconds watching Draven and then walked out of the room. Chester smiled and then walked out of the room softly closing the door behind him. He then followed Sam down the stairs.

“I cannot get over how much Draven has grown. And he is just like you. It’s like --” she said as they walked into the living room. She reached down onto the couch and picked some books up. Chester then stopped her from finishing.

“Sam, listen to me”

“Oh, my ***, he's just becoming his own little man” she then looked down at the books in her hand and then looked back up, “I miss him”

“Yeah” he softly said looking down.

“I miss you” she said and he looked back up. She walked passed Chester and set the books down in a basket that was near the railing. She turned to face Chester, “You know what? Why don't you whip up one of your famous late-night dinners, because I'm starved, and we can sit by the fire and we can drink wine and we can talk --”

“Sam, stop it, stop it” he said and she stopped talking and looked at him, “Don't try to snow me”

About thirty minutes later, Rob and Rav were back at Rob’s house. Rob had put Matthew down in his own room, but only to find that he had a soggy diaper. Changing the diaper was an event it self, which sent Rav into a laughing fit watching Rob change him, but then she ended up helping as well. Once Matthew was all good to go, Rob finally put him down for the rest of the night. The two of them went to the living room and saw that it still was a mess. Rob was going to help but Rav sent him away to get the vacuum cleaner so that he would be away so she could picked up the wedding photos. When she picked them all up and put them in a box that she found on the floor where they originally came from. She picked up the photo frames, but left the glass on the carpet so it could be vacuum up. Rob came back into the living room with it and vacuum up the glass. All the cleaning up of the living room took about an hour.

After they were done, they sat on the couch enjoying the silence. Rav looked at her watch and saw the time. Knowing that she had work tomorrow she got up and told Rob that she had to go and was about to go when he grabbed her arm.

“Don’t go” he said making her sit back down, “Stay here. I just -- I just don’t want you to leave yet” he said looking straight at her. Out of no where he got this urge to want to kiss her. He put his hands on the side of her face and pulled her closer to him as he leaned in crushing his lips against hers. Going differently from the last kiss, Rav wrapped her arms around his neck which then deepen the kiss even further. It was like this kiss was needed badly. He slowly let go and leaned his forehead against hers breathing out shakily. They stayed like that for while then Rav moved her arms from around his neck. Rob moved back and slowly got up grabbing her hand and helped her up. Something had changed between them since she came to help Rob out. Together the both of them walked out of the living room and went down the hall. They reached Rob’s room and walked in where Rob then closed the door softly behind him.
