Creation/Evolution

It's a shame there aren't more Centaurs, Lindworms, Harpies, Gryphons, and Bunyips around. I sure miss them.

---------------------------------------------------

Believe what you will...if it makes you a better person, or gives you an answer to the unexplained, or gives you comfort in loss, so be it. It's good in my books. I'm not saying I'll never believe, but evolution is far more tangible than a sky fairy with a magic wand to me.

If the skies were to re-align saying "I am here"...I would be forced to accept, but so far I can't accept it.

So what is new RO?

I can find the exact same arguement made to push away opponents of Obama care and global warming. It is the tool of the sham artist to claim that anyone who does not agree with them is incapable of understanding what they understand.........so you have more in common with Al Gore and Obama than you might think being as you share their elitist opinion that anyone who does not agree with you is just stupid or brainwashed, lol.

What is new, you ask? My sneakers.

Alright, now you resort to insulting me? I thought you were above all that, TJ. You dissappoint me.

Have you not read any of my previous posts concerning Obamacare and Al Gore's fantastical global warming/climate change deal?

You make it sound like I should be lumped into a category of elitists, because my opinion differs from yours.

You start out great but then turn to being insulting with the sky fairy comment.

Why must your not believing what I believe mean you feel justified to look down your nose at me and my fellow humans who do have faith?

I'll ask you the same thing I asked RO.

Do you believe love exists?

If so, please prove in a scientific way that love exists. Show us the tool used to measure love..............if you can't prove it exists using acceptable scientific procedures....then based on your own comments of God, then Love cannot exist either.

All the greatest things in life are simple and can be reduced to single word descriptions: freedom, loyalty, justice, duty, mercy, hope, faith, love, honor.

All of these great things I mention are feelings, they exist in our hearts and minds, they are not tangable things set on a table or created from a factory. They are conditions of our humanity, and they add more to our life than anything of substance that can be touched.

Insult you?

I am speaking the truth RO. The article you just offered as your own views is exactly the same thing as the Obamacare and global warming supporters who claim that anyone who does not agree with them is simply not educated enough to see the truth.
Problem is, most folks-including many of the more learned among us-don't understand the basic workings of science well enough to appreciate how feeble the arguments against evolution (global warming) really are.

Notice how easily "global warming" can be inserted in that statement?

Al Gore and every global warming supporter says the exact same thing RO. Your using their tactics of avoiding debate by claiming that those you are talking with simply do not possess the mental faculties to understand what you understand.

So yes, I now place you in the same league as Obama and Al Gore until you get off your high horse and move away from your claims that those who do not agree with you are stupid, that is what "they" do to feel superior to everyone else.

"You start out great but then turn to being insulting with the sky fairy comment.

----------------------------------

Come now TJ. You likening all atheists to Hitler and PolPot etc...you do your fair share of insulting when people do not accept your belief system. Besides...who is to say God doesn't have wings, a magic wand, or whatever...he very well may have...since you have never seen him/her/it. It's all speculation really. God could be animal, vegetable, or mineral....it's really irrelevant any which way you cut it.

If I were to believe in a holy turnip, you could not dispute my beliefs or shun me because there is zero evidence to support any of it existing in the first place. If my holy turnip made me a better person...then whose to say?

I never said that you were uneducated, you created a thread and gave a dissertation.

I responded calling you brainwashed, because you told me not to call you that in the other thread.

Very easily. I do believe in global warming as a natural phenomenon, but do not believe whatsoever that it is the result of man.

Scientists date the earth as billions, but mankind has only been around for ten thousand. And the Industrial age has only been around for a hundred or so years... thus there is no way man has contributed to climate change.

And who does Obama and Al Gore persuade to jump on their movements? Sheep who will buy into anything as long as it is liberty and freedom they are giving up and not security.

I don't feel superior to anyone, because I believe everyone should have a high opinion of themselves, their lot in life, and how they made their way independent of government assistance.

Although some happy ladies out there would beg to differ, I am not an evolutionary phenom or the prodigal son of man.

I am, however, a free and critical thinker. believe in individual and property rights, laissez faire capitalism, I believe in constitutionally limited goverment, and I am an egoist who vehemently opposes altruism. I dunno...if I were to believe in God...I'd hope for something more exciting than a dude in a dress with long hair and sandals. I like the sky fairy idea...actually a holy turnip is really cool too. A vegetable that created us all.....you VEGANS are going to HELL!

I guess you completely missed RO's "the Bible is bullsh!t" videos that my comparison was a reply to right? Context is a wonderful thing.

Your intent is what matters, calling God a skyfairy was not meant to be a nice comment so that was the bases of my reply. Why can't we just all let each other believe what we want without being called stupid?

And when I use hard science to prove evolution is impossible just like scientists have disproven man caused global warming, both you and Al Gore use the same claim that anyone who does not agree with you is stupid.

Just like the atheists are jumping on the band wagon of evolution because it justifies their rejection of God even thought it is just as much junk science with a political agenda as man caused global warming.

And we agree on many of those points but at the same time your very insulting to me and all people of faith. You put us down and look down your nose at us, read the article you linked RO, that is nothing but pure insult to anyone who dares to not agree with the writer's possition.

"Religion was created out of a fear and superstition."
"My example... over your head."
"Religion will always be around, because people are so dependent on that infallible mystic in the sky."
"you already have a predetermined prejudice based on fanastical absurdities."

You don't feel superior? Really? Your tone is obviously one of superiority and your choice of videos and the article is 100% insulting and calling all people of faith stupid.

Oooooh, careful there TJ. You're pretty good at insulting and berating those who don't agree with your personal agenda yourself!

You're treading in precarious waters, my friend.

Well if you felt "skyfairy" was scathing and damaging to your belief system then you have my humblest apologies.

Also...why is evolution "junk science" and "religion" called faith....both can't be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt....I guess both are really just a belief, not proven or disproved, so technically it could be considered faith as well. Neither more correct than the other. I guess that would cancel both out...making the topic of discussion completely moot.

At the very least, TJ, you know when you are being insulted. Anyone else, would've suddenly abandoned all previous thoughts and jumped on the author's bandwagon. Very smart.

My drill instructor, Honeycutt, doled out the tapestry of beautiful and articulate insults to the likes of which I cannot describe. Even as I bark like him, I can not do it with a straigh face. One thing I do remember: Honeycutt always said, "Thinking will get you killed.".

Al Gore's agenda is to use a manufactured crisis to bend the will of the people into a frenzy that they join him, join his celebrity sponsors, and his paid off idiotic scientists. My agenda, on the other hand, is to inform that because one person says "so" it's not the most logical and reasonable answer.

When have I ever not been capable of walkign the path I wanted to walk? Most of the time people claim I said something or implied a negative thing it turns out to be completely created by someone else, not me.

I can't answer for the words someone else inserts into my mouth.

Well you certainly did not damage my belief system, my point was in how we treat each other when we do not agree on something. For some reason, people without faith seem to be very insulting and look down their noses at people who do have faith.

And yet your choice of words and your tactics in defending bad science is exactly the same. Being as your having to resort to the same tactics, maybe your "science" is based on the same lack of reality?

I completely and vehemently disagree with you there.

If you are the example of how someone with faith interacts with someone who disagrees with them, then we (those with faith) are seriously screwed...

Your retort is laughable. You put belief in the metaphysical that can not be proven.

Do you know the definition of science?

Wiktionary entry "science" said:
Noun

science (plural sciences)

The collective discipline of study or learning acquired through the scientific method; the sum of knowledge gained from such methods and discipline.
1951 January 1, Albert Einstein, letter to Maurice Solovine, as published in Letters to Solovine (1993)
I have found no better expression than "religious" for confidence in the rational nature of reality [...] Whenever this feeling is absent, science degenerates into uninspired empiricism.
A particular discipline or branch of learning, especially one dealing with measurable or systematic principles rather than intuition or natural ability.
Of course in my opinion Social Studies is more of a science than an art.
(archaic) Knowledge gained through study or practice; mastery of a particular discipline or area.
I have much science concerning fire and smoke.
(now only theology) The fact of knowing something; knowledge or understanding of a truth:
1611, King James Version of the Bible, I Timothy 6:20-21
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding vain and profane babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

What is the scientific method?

Wiktionary entry "scientific method" said:
