It would be easy for me as well, but I was compring her decision to the apparent condition of "modern" attitudes. When we kill 1.2 million babies every year for mostly selfish reasons, it seems somewhat special to see real examples of love like this these days. And I am sure her situation was harsh, but a "possibility" of death compared to the surity of death is still something completely different. Are you trying to say the advanced cancer was painless? All I am trying to say is there are degrees and this mother gave up her life, eyes wide open and fully understanding. I must give this a higher degree of respect becauase the surity of death has a higher pressure than the small chance of death you describe. Both situations would have severe pain, in fact, many of the most powerful pain medications are reserved for patients with things like terminal cancer. With the "possibility" of death, there is always hope, hope you can concentrate on. Anyway, I just wanted to show respect to this woman, I feel her sacrifice was an example to us all, well............. those of us who respect life that is. Peace.

Well, I don't believe it is fair to sy her choice was easy, it is very difficult to face ones ending with such a calm mind, most struggle and fight their fate, but she was able to overcome her self preservation instincts and had her life to her child. I don't know if it is fair to compare a woman giving her life to a woman just dealing with pain and no possible death ahead of her. The story was not clear but I am sure her advancing cancer had some pain to go with it. Pain can be overcome. With the right mental discipline, you can completely turn off pain from areas of your body, I have done it. But, there is no way to escape death. I hate to dissagree with you, but clearly facing pain, and facing death is two completely different kinds of courage/strength.

It is heart breaking and it makes me value my time with my kids more and more. This woman was the very definition of love as Brotherman said. With 1.2 million children being killed every year in just America, it is truly incredible to see a story like this, I am humbled.

Casual friends are okay, and can offer a lot to you but I believe a couple "good" friends are all anyone needs to have a great life. We all have limited time in this world and giving your time to spend with others is one of the most valuable things you can ever offer another person.

They talk about what they stand for, and claim to have donated to assist the Katrina disaster, but how much? What did they actually do? Who did they give the money to? Did they go to the site and directly give help or did they leave that to the Christians willing to get a little dirty to help people? No, still nothing to show real charity, if anythign you can show a little cash donations, but as I already showed, "true" charity is in the heart, not the wallet.

Under the best of cases, she would get the cancer cured and continue life but how many years would she have and what if the cancer did not go into remission? By allowing her son to live, he has a full lifetime ahead of him, who knows what he will bring to the world, but we know his death would have offered nothing to the world. Sure, he and his siblings will grow up without a mother and this is a bad thing even with the best Dad in the world, but he and his siblings will also know their mother gave her life for his, and this will be a great example to the kids that some things have value greater than ourselves.

I cannot believe you don't understand the concept of how big money people use these large donation to "make" money. If I give you a dollar from my posket to help you buy a meal, that is charity, if a multibillion dollar person gives you a dollar, it is because he is making two dollars in return, that is not charity. It falls to what the intent to give the money is. Charity is in the heart, not in the wallet. No he did not, but even if he did, yes the contribution "looks" good, but accounts for nothing compared to the overall contributions given by all religious people for social programs, and these contributions come from people who could use that money to improve their own lives, the money given buy the rich to get tax breaks cannot improve their lives, it is meaningless to them, and has no significant meaning to them to give it. And that means you cannot pool your resources to assist others, your attitude is the self, not others. First of all, it is not brainwashing, you using desparaging remarks to describe those who follow religious beliefs is. It is like the racist that calls black people the "N" word. Children can learn intollerance from hearing the intollerant adults like you speak. I was specifically talking about things like the movie he said was good. These things concentrate on focusing down on some real things, adding in completely false things, and presenting it all without balancing it with the reality that only religious people do things like help in Darfur, or deliver hot meals to the needy. If you use a general term in a negative way to describe all religious people, and you know I am religious, then you are calling me names. Most charity boxes in stores are not real charities, less then 10% of those donations ever make it to real charities, most of the money goes in the pockets of those running the scams. Most charity donations come from Christians, ad to that the workers actually doing the work are all Christians, and you start to see who really cares about helping society. Charity is inherently a Christian concept. As you guys already said, your not social, so you don't feel the connection to society the way religious people do. The few times you see real charity collectors is the salvation army for example. The person ringing the bell is Christian, the group is run by Christians, the people doing the managing and supply are Christians, the final distribution is handles by Christians........ Do you see a pattern forming?

Not sure where your going with that so no comment....... Stress is not an illness caused by a germ or something floating in the air, it is a mental condition created by you. Sure stress potentials assail us almost every day, but it is us that allow that to create stress insite our own minds. If you have good coping measures to deal with stress as it comes to you, you don't have negative effects of stress in your mind. A much better method is to not allow stress to build up over the day in the first place. All stress is inside your own mind, if you let it get out of control and require treatment each day to deal with that self created stress, there are too possibilities. - Your environment is wrong for you in some way. Job, relationships, the people you deal with, something is beyond your ability to cope with it and you need to take some kind of step to stop the cycle or create coping measures to help you block the stress from being created in the first place. - Your mind is creating the stress to have an excuse to get stoned. Like it or not, stress is created by you, yes 100% of it. Part of learning to cope with stress if admitting to yourself where it comes from. Work, school, falimy, yes these things can create situations that could lead to stress in a person, but it is the person that creats the stress inside their own mind, stress cannot be inserted into your mind without your help. If it went away, why do you feel compelled to keep self medicating? Clearly you are still filling some need you feel, the need to escape reality is a symptom of depression. If a person has given into stress, their incapable of dealing with the situations in life they are facing, clearly they need some outside assistance. If the ability was within them to cope, the druge, prescribed or self medicated would not have been needed right? Again, the medication is the vehicle to the cure of counseling. The counseling is not magical, it is actually a process of helping a person see that their stress can be controlled by controling yourself, your state of mind. Stress cannot be created unless you create it, most of the time it is from confusion, not being sure how to deal with things. Some say things like traffic jambs cause stress for example. Why? Well, they can make you late for work, sitting still for long time frames is boring, the AC does not work so maybe your hot, other drivers honking their horns bothers you, etc.... So, at the time your facing these potential stressors, you can decide to allow them to bother you, or you can understand that there is nothing you can do to force the traffic to get out of your way and not allow it to bother you. It is all a frame of mind. The rest of your post is simply raving against the medical world who is making money off of stress and I will agree with you, they do make lots of money from it, no arguement. They also make a ton of money treating heart disease in it's many formes. Everything from medications to hert transplants cost Americans billions of dollars for treatment, does this mean we should stop treating heart disease? Depression that is so severe that the person needs to medicate for relief is serious stuff. I am not saying that a person cannot find a cure on their own, I am sure they can, but being as the problem is % inside their own mind, it is difficult to know if that same mind is just playing tricks on you at the same time. That is why a therapist can help someone because their not seeing the situation colored through the stressed out minds view.

I can provide millions of example of how religious people give their own time, their money (without tax breaks), they truly want to help people because it the right thing to do. He has also openly stated ahtisets are not social the way religious people are so again, this supports my possition that an athiest is the definition of selfish. It all sounds good but I still do not buy it. My oldest son's best friend is mixed, half white, half black. His father has been in prison his entire life for murder. His step-dad is racist and calls him half breed and even the "N" word sometimes. (I have been close to beating his behind a couple times for this) You would look at his situation and based on what is being said here, he should be doomed to being a criminal. But this kid has a very soft heart. He has come to my house crying about things his step-dad has said to him and we have had long talks about life and society where I can tell you he will be a great man. Aborting this child under the idea that he is doomed to be a criminal or worse would have been a great injustice. I think I have posted this before but I will post it again, I am not sure where I got this but it has been with me for most of my life: "A person is a collection of their lifetime experiences and how he dealt with them."

First of all, making pot legal will not reduce exposure, it will increase it ten fold. Making it legal will have it grown in every home that wants it within three months. Second, part of what keep people from using it now is the fact it is illegal, making it socially acceptable like beer will make it's use be just as heavy, maybe more so because they can grow it themselves. But all stress is created in the mind, so if you have control of your mind, you don't have to battle stress in the first place. So, your wanting pot to battle a mental condition that you created in your own mind, you wish to escape this self created stress with drugs instead of facing and dealing with your problem. By treating the symptom and ignoring the cause, your guranteed to never improve. You see, the medical supplied drugs have counseling to go with them, the drugs are not the treatment, they are the vehicle to the treatment the doctor provides with counseling. By self medicating, your missing the real cure to your problems because your not getting the counseling you need to change your mindset and relieve the stress.

If no responsibility (rape) then no obligation to keep the child. Sure, I wish life could have a chance because this life is innocent, but based on responsibility, I find the mother not to blame for the condition. I have seen children raised in great homes be killers and children raised in the ghetto with prison dads grow up to be great human beings. And a multi billionare giving a few million to charity is like a penny from you and me but what you should have taken the time to research is who the money went to, religious based groups becasue they are the only ones "doing" what needs to be done, so even if an Athiest does donate, he must donate to religious people because their the only "troops" on the ground.
