Help To Change LPF

You know what, in all sincerity, if it wasn't for the writer's thread I would have dropped off the radar ages ago. I have no inclination to take part in a band, a gaming thread, or the like. I'm an older member and much of the time am left feeling like a mother in this place. I know we have to accommodate for all types but seriously, isn't creating more threads etc just basically adding to what we already have? I mean, unless there is a vast majority of people wanting to take part in either thread we are still fundamentally left with the remainder stuck right where we are now... being bored.

What really sucks is that I have made some real friends here, not just virtually but in real life, but with things the way they are of late with many leaving it leaves me wondering how much longer I want to stick around for either. Maybe someone should create a retirement village for former LPF members to meet up away from here or something - only because if they left in the first place without some drastic reforms they won't want to come back to play catch up.

I don't know... feeling sorely let-down here lately. Sad to see it die after investing so much time here. Then again maybe leaving's a good thing... new start... change is as good as a holiday or so the saying goes

it'd be a lot worse without you here, but i totally understand why you would leave. If change is as good as a holiday, then change is awesome lol, so we'll see. But i'm not going to give up on this place. I'll try to revive it. I'll do what ever it takes.

Writing competitions. It wont draw members but it will be fun for members who love to write.

So many ideas lol.

Thanks. Made me blush. But humbly appreciated :D

Tried that, didn't work. Again always comes down to other member contributions and as a general rule, no interest anywhere spells out demise in whatever endeavor you're trying to achieve - be it writing, playing in a band, or keeping a site alive. But one person can only do so much. Real life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes. Meh (haha, I will always think of you now when I say that word, **** you Pete! ;) )

As the saying goes, those who want will find a way, those who don't will find excuses. Ditto here.

And good on you for trying. If a stack of others had that commitment rather than a flagging few things might change here. Good luck with that. Sincerely.

Colourful, no?

we could do a writing contest, but leave it more open, rather then say "write a poem" have it more "write something involving... cheese"

Could be a story or anything liek that.

I'm sure a few people would remain interested!

Okay call me weird but I thought of this when I fell back asleep a couple of hours ago.

I was thinking about something I think it was Fribby that wrote it but how need a better voting system, why don't we start doing something about the LPF awards instead of keeping it to this thread? Like someone get permission off a mod or tell Azem or someone or maybe even Dave (Unhingedmouse) to start creating seperate topic threads....like for an example, grab the most replied to threads in the writers corner (what i remember there's only 3 major stories going right now, Meaghen's, Rach's and Mine). So in that case, I'm so sorry if I don't make any sense, I just woke up from a 15 hour sleep and listening to some **** house music, but because there's only 3, we make a semi final, and then final round of the story battles, with a rule that the poll remains private and if you want to vote in further polls you have to vote in all rounds in all topics. Because I remember the last time the awards were on, you had vote for every catagory for your vote to count.

Internet bands do not work. Trust me. My second-last band "The Nevermores" was purely internet based and so it expensive for me to continue recording. And, there are so many issues facing net bands, like originality of the music and the lyrics, the time that each member has to put into it online and offline is incredibly stupid let alone the reliability for everyone to make it online on time in the different time zones of the world. My school-based band "The Ones Left Behind" was more successful then "The Nevermores". I mainly quit because I was getting sick of the one writing all the lyrics. But I don't mean to sound negative, but it may differ from everyone else their opinion of a concept. But it's just because I've been there and done that, and I didn't like it.

But check out LPA's new site. It has games on it! It has the friends feature on the profiles! (If you see December's Shadow on it, don't forget to say hi to me!) I think LPF needs an upgrade in not only the way its presented to the members and the public but it needs an upgrade in its attitude and spirit.

1) it makes sense, and its pretty cool

2) it's not like a full serious internet band, jsut for fun purposes. 100% fun. We won't force people into it!

3)LPA... meh, games on a forum site are cool i suppose. They need to have highscores and **** with like "titles" that go with highscores! thatd be uber!

I want that friends feature on our profile though on our LPF it would present LPF as more sophisticated and I don't know I just came back to life from a long sleep. I did suggest this a while back, even bored of studies.org has it on there.....(check out born2baplacebo that's me lol) but got ultimately rejected.

You know what, couldn't have put it better myself - but we have only been saying this now for a while and we're a lot like the lower houses of Parliament; ie All talk, no action.

As for competing in the writers thread I would love to but I'm not sure even that is a viable solution. As you and I Sarah are the only two really posting daily practically we kind of have that one in the bag. I'm not sure a competition on this level is even viable. Last time I actually had people saying to me on MSN they didn't want to compete with me. It wasn't said in spite but they felt... inadequate maybe? I don't know. Not blowing my own horn, I really couldn't give a **** on why or why not, point is and it's really the bottom line - running a competition or starting a band or whatever won't change what we already have - if no one's willing to contribute anything as it is

.

We need decisive steps.

1) Facelift. This site needs a visual overhaul. Yes that includes banners for those that want more variety. That gives those in the art department reason to get involved.

2) Cyphon out non-contributing members. Those that sign up and never come back, get rid of. Like an email account membership should have an inactivity clause. Don't contribute even a little in a month or two or whatever bye-bye, come back again later if you really feel that way inclined.

ALSO as a side, give the long serving members a reason to remain. Not necessarily give them any greater status than just members, but have a separate area for faithful members. I don't know what would make it so appealing, but like kids being told to stay away from the cookie jar, if newer members are excluded until a certain post count they might try harder to get in. Just a thought.

3) Revamp the mods and admins. Who exactly is in charge and who's not with us anymore? Who's leaving? Who's come back? The little section on the right that tells us who's in and who's new needs more emphasis. Again I throw out that idea of evolving the disused chat to a real time chat box. That way we can see who's in and send messages straight away without searching threads. Might keep the members more inclined to stick around and chat rather than CHOKE THE THREADS WITH SPAM that no one seems to be keeping track of!

4) LPF Awards. Rather than leave this up to those dubiously in charge to agree set a date every year and stick to it. Regardless who's in charge give the site a staple of security. If people see this as a regular event you may just get regular visitors to this site - funny that. I for one would be willing to help on this regard if anyone's listening. Even if we start with mini awards to whet everyone's appetites, hold bi-annual awards, or monthly member awards, or only best member award once a year, whatever! Just do something for the love of *** and stop digressing over it.

5) ??

Come on people. Mods, PLEASE, get this out there on the front page for THE WHOLE SITE TO SEE! It's a site issue, make it so known that people get sick of hearing about it and are forced to do something about it or shut the **** up complaining, either way!

This back-and-forth attitude is really frustrating the **** out of me :shoot:

You've actually pointed some really good points there woman.

You're ranting has done it once again!

And **** Parliament, unless Peter Garrett is on here so I can take the **** out of him for his Midnight Oil songs, leave me out of politics. Rudd has annoyed me.

Anywho, back to the topic...(a fine example of choking threads with spam) but yeah I do agree with you there the lower house comment.

5) Mod and Admin get your act together. LPF doesn't want to face Doomsday. Despite I'm not a big LP fan anymore (I like to bag them out more than anything right now) but this place holds a lot of memories for me and hey! I've actually met some friends off this site...Gemma, Fiona and Renai....and hate to mention it, my ex bf Anson aka Chainer.

We used to have a date every time the Awards came on but none of the mods have stuck to it, nor the admin. It used to be every eight months we'll have it, or failing that, it would be around the August time of every year that I can recall. **** it. I think we should just go ahead and plan the awards ourselves.

All we get nowadays are noobs that come on and say

"omgz wouldn't it be lyk so cool if Rammstein and Chaz joined?"

Sorry but that comment really annoyed me in the Rammstein thread. Teenie LP boppers.

We need a reorganisation of the mods and admins and give the privilages to active members? (and btw when can I get my eliteship back as well? They said I could get it back. Lol. Jk.)

LPF should follow LPA's rules. I tried to sign up with my old email (blackdemonspirit one) but it said it already existed on their records. I can go up and now and sign up with the same email address as this one is signed up to and no one would care/find out (well, I can only recall one time where they did and it was the old case of LPP). There's no confirmation email either. It's hey! You've joined LPF! Our words at the noob camp welcoming them and all and saying to them that we hope they stay, isn't going to do anything.

Oh yeah, I reckon we need a gadget/new technology part added onto this place. So we can seperate tech stuff from the general stuff.

Apologies for double posting, but I'm writing up a long letter which I'll be shortly posting in the complaints part of LPF.

And btw Rav. I would LOVE to take you on in a writing competition!! I have done it once remember the first writers competition that Rissa held? I bet you and I got the first title!!

What extent is your power over lpf as a mod?

And *** **** you confused me for a second when you changed the title of this thread.

my power?

I can move, delete, lock and sticky threads I can edit and remove posts and ban people...

I can post in the news section... andI can also change someone's signature if it's against the rules

that's pretty much it

Sincerely I thank you for taking it to the general populous. I keep repeating myself in the hopes someone will listen, thank *** someone finally did.
As to whether or not any suggestions are implemented remains to be seen but of course if there's anything else anyone wants to add please feel free... I'm sure there's many other ideas out there but as I don't get out (online) much this site is pretty much my exclusive home, that's why, love or hate the band, I don't want to see it crumble.

A site - like a band - is only as good as it's members ;)

(Rav = a cliche for every moment :D )

BTW Sarah, yes you did beat me. I think there was only three of us in it anyway, someone had to lose. And it only further drives my point, that without any great influx of interest to make you want to compete, or even to vote, all your left with is... what we have now - small band of social cliques that occasionally overlap.

Hmm as for a layout it would be cool to have the new logo font around, and I dunno but I see a brighter site, maybe like a whitish color representing the cover of Minutes to Midnight and all that.

Im no good at coming up with designs but just a thought! Bring on 5.0! haha.
